I blew 1000 gold on a horse, rode it to a dungeon, and when I came back outside the horse was gone. I went back to the stable and it wasn't waiting there... so I guess I just blew 1000 gold for a quick ride and that was it? I think I'd rather just walk.

Horses are slower then a high stamina char + whirlwind sprint anyway
As for the well rested thing, are you by chance a werewolf? Cause you can't get the buff if you are.
Also, new problem: vendors.
I pile up loot ten times faster then any vendor gets money, and none of them have a lot to begin with.
Anyone know of a top grade vendor that buys all?

I decided selling stuff is a pain.. the only thing I bother to keep now are things I can use.. gold, arrows, lockpics and potions or magicy things. And I keep dragon scales and stuff just in case, but I just dump em on my Lydia pack mule.

All my dragon scales and bones are my house. If I run out of cash, I just fashion a few dragonplate armors, which go for 5k each.

@ Necros, return to a major town, I recommend Riverwood, your horse should be at the main gates for you.
He never goes back to the stable. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sometimes he can also wander off a bit so look about outside the dungeon entrance some.

OK I'll look around for him. Just seemed to make sense that he'd be at the stables.
I wish my companion could have a horse too. But then they can never keep up anyway, at least the seem to teleport to whatever new place you enter.
I'll probably buy a house tonight, then I can dump out all my stuff there. Are any houses better than others, or are they all pretty much the same inside not including upgrades you buy?

It regens all the time. Combat shouldn't be an issue unless you're poisoned.
Also there are no quick keys such as 1,2,3 etc for spells? All done through the favourites menu?
Not sure on this but AFAIK all through the favorites menu.
Can you level up cooking, smelting etc ala Warcraft or is it just to produce goods for sale/crafting?
You can level up smithing but not cooking.
I cant seem to perform long running jumps either the run/jump key combo dosent seem to work?[/spoiler]
Not sure on this might just be timing.
Do your companions have an infinite gear carry weight?
AFAIK yes.
Is there a way to track what potion ingredients you have discovered? Like a list/book one can get?
There is a list of potions you have/can make when you access an alchemy station, look underneath the ingrediants tab.

Companions don't have infinate carry weight, I loaded up Lydia with tons of dragon scales and stuff, and eventually it said she was full. But, it is pretty high though. They can prolly hold around 300ish.

Not really, but they do help a lot, essentially being unkillable (AFAIK) extra inventory space that can distract enemies in a fight.

I meant essential as in "Quest Essential" as in they don't die, just fall and rest up a bit.
I've already completed the Main Quest solo. I know they're not necessary for survival.
I'm just afraid that my new 2H swinging Nord Badass is going to cleave him up a companion sandwich.

Yeah I had my companion get killed last night.. sucked because I didn't want her to so I had to load an older save and run all the way back to where I was. When their health gets low, they kneel down and if they get hit hard enough when they're down, they can die.
Right now I have Lydia wandering around with me as my pack mule. I'm going to just buy a house tonight, then I can go solo again. As a sneaky class it's a pain to tell her to wait all the time, and then run back and have her follow again, and then sneak again and back and forth.

It's painfully obvious that this game is a port. I'm running it on pc, and the menu's are sometimes a nightmare to get through, there's the random crash, the alt tab crash, and I'm sure more crashes to be discovered. My biggest irk is my hands keep getting locked up when equipping with spells. I can select melee weapon for both hands, but if I try to do that with spells it doesnt work. I pick flare and frost. Now if I pick shock it gets rid of frost. If I pick frost twice it gets rid of frost. So I ALWAYS have fire in that one hand. The only way to fix it is to equip two melee weapons, then equip a spell, then unequip the remaining melee weapon, then equip the spell I want as the secondary. That "favoriting" crap doesn't help the situation at all. This is a bethesda game though, it's expected to be sub bar stability wise until the mod community gets a hold of it.

The essential companions don't die...
Mercer (Head of the Thieves guild) doesn't die.
They just collapse (like an enemy does when they are on very low health) and then get back up and carry on.

Dark brotherhood seems a bit short. Interesting and cool though, but short. The aftermath is interesting but the lair doesn't feel like 'home' I think I preferred the deepscorn hollow lair. I hope someone makes a port.

@Necro - The alt-tab crash doesn't happen with me. I've had the random crash, but only 1 so far (Oblivion would've had about 20).

One thing that's been bugging me with archery is you really can't tell what/who someone is from a distance, but then if you shoot em you will see their name and health. It would be nice if you could see that ahead of time so you don't accidentally shoot people that are nice, or walk up to a bad guy thinking he was a normal NPC, until you got up in his face and he started stabbing you.

AFAIK, firing an arrow near an NPC to get their attention flags them as enemies if they are. It can also serve as a distraction to draw them out of position, but if they're already lined up for an easy kill, then it might be difficult.

Judging from all these PC problems, I'm glad I play with a PS3 controller.
On that note, the only issues I have are that when I alt-tab constantly, the game will occasionally just close when I try to go back into the game. Which is a problem, because I play on Steam and want to chat with my friends - but using the Steam overlay disables the B/Circle button on my controller, so I have to restart or, oddly enough, save the game in order to fix it.

When alt-tabbing, I find it loads up normally when trying to get back in if I click the program on the taskbar, alt-tab to a different window, and then alt-tab back to Skyrim. It's a bit of a nuisance, but for some reason it loads it back perfectly.

I do. Furthermore aggressive action is best taken when confronted with:
A) Any action whatsoever
B) Any inaction whatsoever.
Any action can be interpeted as the start of a long chain of actions designed to bring about your downfall. So it's self-defense.
Any inaction can be seen as a fatal hesitation that will one day cause their death. You are merely speading up nature and improving the gene-pool.

The way I take care of dragons is, when they first attack, I pop a potion of frost or fire resist depending on what kind of dragon they are. Then I shoot em with my bow if they're flying around a lot. Soon as they land I hit em with the marked for death shout, and then hack & slash him to bitz while he's busy eating farmers.

My strategy is.... shout at the skies, and wait till the bugger crashes from all the lightning strikes.
Though I'm about to get Dragonrend shout which should speed things up even more. Especialy since I kill anything up to blood dragons in 2 power attacks now. Dual wielding ftw.
