Hey, I want Squats back, but I don't see it actually happening. GW has made their decision. The Referees agree; the play stands. Pariahs are dead. Unless GW releases another Necron Codex and changes the fluff back, they have gone the way of the Dodo. Still, GW might change their minds and bring them back with the next codex. You only have (at least) 6 years and two new editions to wait to find out!

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

I must admit I didn't like the Pariahs going and being effecively replaced with Lychguard. And I think the main rules of the Pariahs, coupled with the old warscythe rules, would have been a killer unit. Alas, it would be "too much" and "gamebreaking" to have 10 guys killing a unit outright with no saves and making them flee after each combat as a result.

I think what happened was that Pariahs were meant to "evolve" into Lychguard so to speak. However with the armywide I2 and warscythes losing it's best trait, and the Ld7 aura disappearing as well, created a replacement unit instead of a changed unit.

New codex is out and people are already complaining and wanting more. Jeez. As a necron player since necrons were a pewter army I have to say i'm thrilled with my options. Funny though how you don't see any THANK YOU GW threads for giving the necrons a new codex after so many begged for so long.

And they didn't count towards your Necrons for Phase Out!

They weren't exactly shaking up the game tables before, and frankly them being gone is okay. There are viable options to use your models with Crypteks and such, so I don't see the huge issue. I'm usually against taking things out of the game, but when there are other options that serve the exact same purpose with the same wargear, it's not really an issue.

Sure you don't see very many "Thank you GW!!" threads... but the general consensus is people are very pleased about this codex, fluff and rules. Complainers always have a louder voice than people who are satisfied.

Besides, should we be saying "Thank you for remembering about a book/army that was almost 10 years old!!!" ? I think it's appalling it took so long for an update

Herr Dexter wrote:TBH, it's a shame they scrapped Pariahs.

They were an unique unit. So stop saying they just changed into Lychguard. The only thing they have in common are Warscythes and both being overpriced (talking about points not cash).

If there is one thing that current Nacron Army is missing (I'm very pleased with overall changes and new codex) - it's a proper anti-psyker unit. And that's exactly what Pariahs were...
Lowering LD to 7. Screwing up Psykers by getting 6" near them. Fearless. Add a Cryptec - Harbinger of Despar - Veil them to the psykers and abuse your Abyssal Staff - that would be so awsome. But no - instead we get Lychguard. Who aren't even nearly as unique.

Not to mention that since they took "terrify" effect away Flayed Ones - they could have made them Troops. That would leave nice free spot in Elites section - one that Pariahs could fill.

See, this guy gets it...

There is no wargear or unit that replaces what the Pariah brought to the game.

Yes, thank you GW for after 10 years of waiting giving us a new codex, thanks alot.

Generaly I am indifferent about the new codex, its different, its new... I just miss my favorite unit in the whole game. I have always advocated Pariahs and you can look up past post to varify.

Look at it whis way. They're gone, you'll get over it.

Tyranid players lost their Carnifex. Their engine of ultimate destruction. It's still there, yes, sitting in the back of the army list, taunting us.

"You remember me? I was your friend. Remember our victories together?" they whisper as you flick through the heavy support.

When you go to get your stuff for your game, your gaze crosses their bulk. You remember the Land Raiders they crushed, the squads they annihilated. You remember the punishing firepower they absorbed. You remember that you can still take them, but they don't do that anymore. You pick up a Trygon instead.

The Carnifex is gone, but GW left it in the book as a form of punishment. Pariahs are gone completely, you don't get reminded every time you pick your book up or pick models out for your game.

Also, I wouldn't put it past Forgeworld to redo Pariahs in a Necron IA book.

Tau: hey Pariah! Come join us.

Pariah: Why?

Tau: because we have no psychic defense. Oh and the Greater Good.

Pariah: Be added to Trazyn's museum of old garbage, or join the Tau.... Will my Warsycthe Still Ignore Invulns?

Tau: Sure yeah whatever.

Pariah: and no mind control, right?

Tau: Of course not. We need you to just put on this helmet though. So we can communicate with you.

So what exactly is preventing you from using them in friendly games? You use the new rules for the warscythe and gauss blaster, otherwise keeping them as is. They're not undercosted by any means so as long as your opponent is cool with it...

They're official GW models. They might be OOP, but they are citadel miniatures. GW have absolutely no rules stating you cannot use them, in fact, they specifically state the use of old models is perfectly fine as long as they are on the bases they were supplied with. It's not really 'counts-as'. Pariahs aren't in the book. But, they have the same equipment as Lychguard, and are on their original 25mm base. There should be no reason anyone should tell you that they can't be used as Lychguard.

hey did I mention you can use them as lychgaurd?

In all honesty, Pariah's sucked. They sucked haaaarrrrd. They had two things going for them, and one wasn't even that great (especially not now that the psychic hood has rediculous range...so their own psychic awesomeness was sadly, limp). They looked cool, and man what a scary idea, but they aren't gonna bring them back. There's no point, they serve no purpose and they only make ur army weaker =/ It's like taking stingwings. Yea they'll kill stuff, but they're gonna die, and it can very easily cost you the game. so get over it, your pet pariah is dead time to bury it in the backyard

your statement saying that they sucked is a matter of opinion sir and that opinon is likely multiplied by you not knowing how or when to use them. Yes they were giant targets, but before 5th as with the rest of the Necrons they were played much differently. 5th ED made all crons sub par. But you still needed to use them smartly and cant just throw them out there. There had to be a synergy with other units envolved.
