Update:
Schedule now reading for main events:
Friday Afternoon:
Meet and greet, grab a game of your choice.
Friday Night:
25pts Warmahordes tourney (Participate as though you possess testicles etc!)
Saturday morning/afternoon - Be there for 9.30am - play begins at 10am
1000 WH40k tourney (In the grimdark future of the 41st millenium there is only war... and Mike's infamous London Broil sammichs!)
$10 dollar contribution: these will be added together as a prize voucher for the winning team.
Saturday Night:
Brushfire Demo/Meet and Greet, Open Gaming, Board Games, =I=Munda/Deathwatch hybrid.
Sunday morning/afternoon - Be there for 9.30am - Play begins at 10am
500pt Warhammer Fantasy Battle: WARBANDS (take your brave army into the realm of chaos and bathe in the weirdness of the chaos mutation charts (AKA Party like it's Slaves to Darkness)
A gentle reminder that this event is about meeting your fellow dakkanauts and enjoying a weekend of gaming, the tourneys are ultralight and the emphasis is on fair play and rolling off what you can't immediately agree on. It's not about beardy stunts or waac mentality. Please play nice.

CHAOS WARBAND RULES
After spending much time with my beloved copies of Realms of Chaos last night I really want to run the old school campaigns using those rules and charts. It explains so much about my early chaos models I'd forgotten! Is this why I made these wacky chariots pulled by chaos beasts, and converted all these spawn?
Sadly, unless we had a whole month, I don't see it happening, considering we'd need to a day to roll up and model warbands, and a couple of hours between each round to for book keeping.) I like Mordheim, but comparing it to these rules is like comparing a Coors lite to a microbrewed german beer that you can only get in that little inn by the black forest. The beer that gets you drunk off one bottle and you wake up with hair in places you shouldn't even know about.
For Dakkacon, I'm going to be liberally stealing tables and mutation charts from the books, and applying them to your armies. A few things at the start, plus extra warping affects as your armies progress. You may even pick up chaos 'followers' to add to your army. I'm going to be bringing in a large chunk of chaos bits and pieces, minos, beastmen, chaos warriors, etc, plus some older monsters. Added to the armies i have at the shop, should give enough fodder.
So, some guidelines and fluff:
1) This is for fun, and your army should be an attempt to go along with the idea of the old chaos warband campaigns like Path to Gloria. No 'Deathstar' type armies where you have 3 heroes in one big unit. No 200 model skaven slave units. The old warband rules were about a mighty champion of chaos and his ragtag band of followers. Not really an army, more of a mutated chaos mercenary force.
2) If you bring demons, it better be colorful, painted, and fluffy as hell. Also you might want to either bring a pure force from only one chaos god, or take your chances when your army turns on itself. Old chaos didn't get along nearly as nicely as they seem to now.)
3) Even if you bring a non chaos force, it represents some wannabe chaos champion. Outlawed Bretonnian knight who killed his brother in a duel, An empire champion that's one step ahead of the witch hunters after joining a cult as a way to political power, an elf that dealt with sorceries he shouldn't have touched and wants more power....Design the force you want, but build it around one character who will become your chaos champion.
4) Forces should be light on missle weapons, warmachines should be quite rare. Monsters are perfectly fine, lots of them in the old fluff. Stuff like a war altar, volley gun, or similar is out entirely.
5) If you want to be inventive, email me about what you want to run, and have models for. Old stuff like Fimir are cool, chaos dwarfs of whatever flavor, dogs of war, etc. Mounting your character in a chariot is also an old accepted idea in the old rules.
6) General guildlines for unit sizes: 5-15 for most infantry, up to 20 for stuff like gobbos or skaven. 1-5 for cav, 1-3 for monstrous cav or infantry.
7) 1000 pt armies, no more than one wizard, no lords,
8) You can dedicate your warband to khorne, nurgle, tzeentch, or slanesh, or to chaos undivided. You don't have to pledge your hero at all..yet.
Obviously, once you take a patron, that should affect your warband. Khorne doesn't like wizards, Tzeentch does. etc.
9) If it makes for a good story and you have the models, you can mix a bit of something else into your army. Ogres, dogs of war, any chaos units, etc are fine to mix into another warhammer army. Have fun with it.
10) People that have interesting ideas, and nice models to reflect will be a bit more rewarded at the start than armies designed to win a tournament. Chaos is fickle.
11) All models should be painted. Models without paint suffer -1 to all stats!
12) You don't need to buy a hero to carry your banner. You may pay the points for a champion instead + 25pts. The model has the stats of a normal champion, can join units like a character, and carries your army standard. You can pay points as normal to make the banner magical.
This lets people take an asb, but still fit it into a 1000pt list.
When you have an idea of your 1000pt army, email it to me at ShowcasePA@aol.com and I'll ok it, and maybe add some goodies to it.
During the day, I'll pair folks up and you'll play several games. Your forces will mutate, you'll gain followers, and hopefully you'll gain gifts for your champion. Winning helps, but not always in a way you might like. Chaos Gifts is a very broad term in the old books.)
Email/ PM me if you have questions.

Just reserved the room for myself/Wehrkind/Jin/Boss_Salvage . Got 10% off for mentioning the Granite Run Mall / Showcase Comics rate.
Mike, for the warbands you only want 1-3 models in a monstrous infantry unit? Just want to make sure I heard that right. I don't think I'm even allowed to run less than 3 in a unit, and I've never tried 3 trolls... . Is 6 too many, as I usually consider that the min?
Also, will you kind of modify army lists when folks arrive because I imagine we'll be all over the place . I'll be sure to use my painted models, -1 on stats across the board is heavy
Sounds like a lot of fun!!

There is nothing stopping the West Coast getting it's Dakkacon on, nor central US Dakkacon for that matter or anywhere else. It would require a strong FLGS stepping up and some dakkanauts putting in the effort to make it happen. What you have to do is be prepared to travel to it and to sacrifice your own convenience for a geographically central store.
Dakkacon - East Coast is still a fairly small affair, that's proven really valuable for us to create a core of dakkanauts to organize the events and coordinate over the 6 months between each one (we have a second event in July), we're building on it each time and given a couple of years it's going to be a regular feature on everyone's calendar for the area. In the main it strongly concentrates on the social aspects of wargaming and meeting online pals. It's a wargaming holiday with your fellow dakkanauts, good humor and relaxed games.

Mostly just guidelines Steve. For warbands you can take less than normal unit requirements. A troll army with it's main block being 6 trolls would be fine. This is a very loose and inventive format, and I'm using bits from old books as well.) Say you wanted to run just throgg and his trolls, or a few other of the monsters he attracts? I'd probably allow you to take a Trool champion, standard, and musician (which could be a troll thumping on a large goiter, excessive flatulence, - both examples of 'musicians' in the old books.) One troll can be upgraded to a champion, and carry your army standard, which should be large, ragged, and reflect Throggs' grandeur.)
I'm breaking out old chaos stuff I haven't used in years. The old OOP dragon ogre is probably going to carry my standard, based on an old warband in Lost and the Damned. I've got about a dozen old chaos models and Fimir I want to use, that I see in those old 'Eavy Metal pages. They need love and attention. Too many years sitting in a display case.

So everyone chips in a tenner, they all go into a pot and the winning team (of how many people we don't know) gets that amount divided between them in a Showcase Comics voucher each.
Just a bit of fun... and a nice reward for the winners.
Teams will be randomly selected btw, so you'll be part of a group with folks you may well not know.
Again, it's not a hardcore tourney, just a bit of fun. We all threw a $5 into the pot last time as I recall for the 40k tourney.

Again, it's coming down to how many show on the day as to how many in a team, but no, it will still be 1 vs 1 at the table, just that you will be separated into teams (so if there are 30 folks there, we might divide you into 6 groups of 5, 5 groups of 6 or 3 groups of 10 for example), the winnings divided up among the team that scores highest Overall when their wins/losses and draws are all added up. I thought it would make for a good way to meet folks rather than be forced into playing alongside a total stranger.
It should also accommodate the wide range of player skills we'll see on the day as well as ensuring no one shows up with an aggressive list and 'owns' everyone else when the purpose is to game rather than win.

For the Chaos (or wannabe Chaos) Warbands event, folks have started sending me in their 1k lists, and I've started handing out gifts, daemon weapons, and attributes, in exchange for small requests from their chosen Chaos power. (Hint: They are quite vain and love large banners singing their praises and showing you love them.)
