Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Why not make your tyranid character a "Hungry little Ripper"?

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

Just a note: Each hive of Tyranid carry their own features and characteristics. If her Hive fleet has a very dominant female genome, then let it be. Tyranids are, afterall, a race made of biomass and thus can look like anything, if you think about it.

I doubt even that would really effect the apperance of Tyranids, I don't think they'd have any real distinctive signs of being female. Beings such as the Doom of Malan'ti may have been female but are never shown as being such, but Trevigons I believe are along with Haddriens and Norn Queens along with other Tyranid forms.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

If one put their mind to it, they could make adjustments to their models to show the differences in their Hive Fleet's Genetic code that classifies them as being majorly female. Regardless of a unit's purpose, such as the Tervigon, the things they do has nothing to do with gender, though I'll excuse the Nord Queen as the name is very... Self explanatory. But a simple altering of color scheme, or adding a few bits to the model to create an altering appearance to known Tyranid Hive Fleets could help classify a gender, speaking on a scientific level. Its like... In Monster Hunter, the Alpha Male of the Raptor Creatures is larger, and has frills about it's neck. A trait distinct to it's genome which keeps it standing out among others. In the case of Tyranids, whom adapt, change, and create anew constantly due to their unique Biomass centered way of reproducing, a "Female" hormagaunt, for example, could be classified as such with even such a change as purple markings across the Exoskeleton, or a more lithe cut form (Though Gaunts are already very Lithe as is, so... thats not a suggestion to do to any model.)

Its restricting to say a race who's very existence is that of evolution, change, adaptation, and the like is incapable of developing a gender within it, and saying that it is unlikely that any changes could show on their physcal form. Who knows? Maybe one day Tyranids will speak a true language, communicate, and become the new sentient life after it devours all things living. (General Sarcasm there). I do approve of a Kerrigan style Broodlord though. I may make one for my army with some Deamon bits I have lying around :x

I suggest if you want a female Tyranid character, use a Brood Lord. Also, if you want female then add patterns to the carapace or talons of the models, Tyranid models are generally designed to be both female and male.

I have made custom rules for characters too, so i know your situation. My advice is to make the model or at least the fluff first, so the model/fluff decides the rules (and not the other way around). It does not matter if the final rules is very different to the first, as long as it fits in. People will complain less about powerful rules if you have a good model to back it up. Otherwise, do as you want; I am not one to restrict you.
You could make it with a points cost like the swarmlord, reducing it's physical power and skill for increased psychic potential. (my suggestion)

Gender is not shown on the models. BUT, names are a completely different thing altogether. All the names that are given to the creatures are Imperial designations to classify and identify them. They aren't named from the Tyranids themselves. So the naming convention is completely irrelevant. He could call it "Little Bunny Fu-Fu" if he wanted to, although this wouldn't fit Fluff very well, he's well within his right to do so. So arguing the name is pointless.

And to back up my point:
Old-One Eye
The Red Terror
Deathleaper
The Parasite of Mortrex
Dominatrix
(And all the new special characters already included: Doom, Swarmlord, etc.)
