Hehe, those are my Ortegas, and LCB had already been delt with. I had to take out the dreamer, because his stiched together was behind him with the treasure, so family activate, kill the dreamer, run up and blast a hole in Oogie Boogie, so he'll die at the end of the round and drop the treasure.

That made less sense than listening to a conversation that's all MMO acronyms.

There, I hope that helped.

In the movie Nightmare Before Christmas the lead villian is Oogie Boogie... the clear "inspiration" for Stitch Together.

Lol, thanks for the translation, I guess Malifaux verbiage can be a tad esoteric.

I've just ordered the Malifaux rules as me and my friends are trying to get in to new games, can someone point me in the direction of some good literature about the game, their website is a bit slapdash for my liking.

How competitive/easy to get used to are the Cult Of December or Bad Dreams Box? Also can I get the Neverborn Teddy, Hooded Rider, Neverborn Voodoo Doll (for Bad Dream) or Killjoy (for either) to work?

I really like these models and it'd be pretty cool to get two starter sets and lists together to get my friends involved.

I've only playd two games, and so far I love it. I learned with the Cult of December (Rasputina, 3x Ice Gamin, December Cultist and a Cold One... I think) and it was a little much at first, but by game two I felt a little more confident. The fact that I won may have also had some impact

But I ended up liking them enough to pick up the Cult of December boxed set so

Eldar - 2250 pts
Necron - 1500 pts

Cult of December is my first crew, and pretty straightforward.
Raspy is a glass cannon, so ideally you bunker down and use the Frozen Heart ability to get LOS on her targets through the Gamin and Golem. You might want to keep one Gamin near her to give her the +1 damage. Suggested first expansion purchases would be a Silent One to boost the range of models within her AoE and some limited healing, and either a Convict Gunslinger or Gunsmith to act as bodyguard for Raspy. They both have Gunslinger so they can use their ranged attack in melee, and since both Raspy and the Silent One can give Frozen Heart, they can be used for targeting. Raspy and her Frozen Heart minions move glacially, so they are a poor choice for Schemes that require movement.

Don't have Killjoy or the other figures, so I can't help you there.

I think I'm going to go with the Bad Dreams box.

What size battles do people tend to play? 35ss is what their crew creator starts with

25-30ss is what seems to be average for most games I've played. Usually It's 30ss.

As an aside, The Dreamer is largely considered to be one of the more powerful masters if only because his smashface strategies are rather straightforward. Regardless, you usually win via Alpha-Strike.

An old friend of mine just told us he started playing this game, and so never looking at it, I figured I would. I must admit, Im getting really interested in it for many different reasons. Im trying to convince the wife that we should give it a try (shouldnt be hard as some of the minis look simply awesome, and girly) I pretty much fell in love with the Resurrectionists and Ive been eyeing the Undertakers Lot. I like Zombies, and love playing any type of Necromancer in games if allowed. Anyone know how they play out? I read somewhere that Nicodem can use any undead types from other armies as well? That sounds pretty cool to me, as far as keeping my group fresh.......if thats the word to use

Nicodem isn't a hard hitter, but he can summon punk zombies and other things to do his bidding. He can cast a fog which blocks LOS to his models, and when living or undead models die, they leave behind a corspe....which Nicodem can raise up as mindless zombies to really get that horde of death going. Also if someone attacks Nicodem with his army of mindless zombies around him, he can sacrifice one to take no damage from the attack! Very sneaky!

A very cool, if a little slow crew to play.

I really enjoy playing Malifaux (currenly Cred and Von Shull) and it only gets better the more players you can find ... i feel anyway.

It is easy to learn and easy to expand on

That actually sounds perfect to how I like playing things anyways, Im all about a big time support and letting everything else do my work for me.

What about Neverborns? Anyone know anything about them, as far as how they play and such? Id hate to have the wife pick them, only to find out they really suck

For the Neverborn Lilith's crew are sort of hard hitters with her flying in a pretty much killing whatever. Pandora's crew is sort of like manipulation, does stuff like making the enemy hit themselves. Not sure about the other crews for them.

My friends and I just picked this game up yesterday. I went with the Nicodem starter box, because having Samurai Punk Zombies can never be a bad thing. The game looks like a lot of fun to play, so hopefully we can get a few games in soon.

Just played against Pandora for the first time the other night with my Ortegas. Pandora is mean. She and her Woes nick you to death with wounds. Basically she forces you to take Wp duels, she negates immunity to Wp, she casts spells on you that force you to take a Wp check to perform any action. Anytime you fail a Wp check/duel and you are within 12" of her, you take a wound. Most of the Wp duels are at 12 or 13, so if you run low Wp crews, you are going to have problems.

The counter being that she brings a lot of insignificant models to the table. If you can weather it you can win most of the game modes. At least that's how it looks to me.

I wrote this to another member, and just wanted to cover all my bases as far as info goes.Im curious, whats the deal with the Dreamer and Lord Chompy? Whats their story? Do you get to use them both together? (Im assuming you do as they are sold together) and what is their role on the table? My wife wants to play Neverborn and is curious about how they function

Simplest way to put it is they are a tag team.

Malifaux is a really fun little game, that has an incredibly elegant game mechanic with the card system. Just about every model has some unique flavor and a lot of special abilities, so there is a good amount of tactical flexible from game to game.

It's very scenario oriented. Lots of terrain is very, very important.

With that said, in my opinion (and I have recently given up the game for this reason), it's not balanced very well for competitive play, due to sacrificing power for more thematic flavor.

Typically, the Neverborn are considered the strongest faction, with The Dreamer leading the pack, though every master in the faction (and Collodi) are strong. And Mostly because they are all very mobile. Speed is king in Malifaux.

The best masters are all either fast, or have some type of board/model manipulation to move things around.

Dreamer
Pandora
Colette
Kirai
Hamilin
Perdita

They are probably the cream of the crop, and most other masters will have a harder time dealing with them

The Dreamer is a boy from earth whose dreams seem to twist the reality on Malifaux (Malifaux being on the other side of the 'Breach') Nytemare encounters him, and tries to make him scared to feed off his fear - but the little scamp just laughs and calls him Lord Chompy Bits. They now travel together with other nightmares playing games which get other people killed to the boy's amusement. Nytemare goes along with him because he wants the dreamers power for himself, and needs to protect the boy from others seeking his power.....

LCB and the Dreamer do indeed work as a tag team, one is buried while the other is active, and they can switch between each other doing the turn. They work using the alpha strike tactic, essentially burying the entire crew, slinging the dreamer forward with the help of his totems (the day dreams) before springing the whole crew up right where they can cause the most damage (and Teddy can do a LOT of damage!)

Tacticool always trumps tactics

I think I enjoy painting the minis more than actually playing the game. I've found the game play to be somewhat cumbersome and difficult to understand. There's tons of rules to memorize and the myriad of characters with unique rules, while great for variety and I'm sure provide rich strategy, can be very daunting for a novice to understand.

I've only played it twice so far and don't own the rule book. Both times I was decimated mercilessly. I have the Ortega box set and i have no clue how to use them or what tactics work best.

Just seems to be a total crapshoot every time I've played. I also don't really want to invest hours studying and memorizing more game rules for a game no one really plays...only 1 person is into it at my Flgs.

That's my take on malifaux, but I'll definitely collect more of the figures at some point.
