Heh. Just make sure if you've painted your marines in anything but the retconned first-founding chapters, you'll have to repaint them to play in-store.

I have heard this rumor popping up a few times now, it seems to be fairly believable although I worry that anyone who does not play imperial will feel a bit left out. A good portion of players would not be able to play unlike Eye of Terror. Ah well, I can wait until the summer to find out!

Personally I don't really see the point in holding an event and releasing a bunch of army-specific models for the most populous and profitable section of GW's business. Oh wait. Yes I do.

It could always be something a little different that allows for all armies to participate.
IE a warp storm breaks over the Planet MacGuffin and suddenly there's a fleet of Great Crusade era marine ships over it.
(insert Great Crusade/Heresy army list here)
They attack and now everyone piles on. Some are there for the LOLz (Orks, Dark Eldar), some to save the planet (Marines, IG, Eldar maybe), some to help destroy it (Chaos) and some just sucked in by the warp storm (Tau, Nids).
After all Armageddon should ahve been Orks vs Imperium but they found something for everyone to do. Black Crusade should have been Chaos vs Imperium but again, everyone got a role to play. I think GW is aware that they should appeal to everyone.

Bugger that. Shoe-horning the Tau (and to a lesser extent, the DE) into every conflict just makes for bad design. Armageddon 3 didn’t need anyone but Orks and Imperium, everything else was secondary. Ichar IV had ‘Nids vs Imperium/Eldar (and whatever Orks got stuck in). The Black Crusade was Chaos vs Imperium/Eldar (with a Tau sideshow). Every now and again you can do it (Medusa did it... Dawn of War: Dark Crusade had a decent justification), but events shouldn't always include everything for the sake of including everything. The Great Crusade/Horus Heresy, by its very nature, should be an Imperium/Traitor centric thing. Finding ways to put the square peg of the Tau or the Necrons into the round hole of the Horus Heresy is not the way to go. I like what Taco Bell did with their Horus Heresy campaign book – the other races (Necrons and Nids especially) – became various alien races that the Crusade met along its path. Essentially they use races from the fluff and turned them into ‘Counts As Necrons’ and ‘Counts As Tyranids’ armies, and that worked fine.

That would be fine, but GW doesn't run campaigns every year anymore. You never know when or if there will ever be another one, so when they finally do one and they exclude all but ONE RACE from it, it's kinda hard to really give half a feth about it.
If one year it was Tyranids and Eldar/IG, the next year it was Orks and SM, etc., that would be acceptable since everyone gets a "turn". This is more like "We're doing a campaign for the first time in years...and only Space Marines are invited! lololol!"

That's a somewhat disingenuous way of putting it given that that 'ONE RACE', as you put it, encompasses the majority of players.

Not when that preferential treatment is precisely what got us into this mess.

What, are you implying that Marines are popular partly because they get the best rules, they're the easiest/most forgiving army to play, and constantly get new models/updates? Or that their popularity could possibly have anything to do with all the work GW has put into making them the obvious poster boys for the game, since day one? Including such things as being one of the first, if not THE first, armies to get their own plastic kit, being in every single starter set, having the entire lore of the universe revolve around them and in most cases being told from their point of view, etc.
Nah, that's crazy. It happened all by itself, the concept was just that awesome GW didn't have to do a thing to help sell them.

And what mess is that? Being the poster boys of the most popular selling miniatures game? Yeah, I think GW is really regretting that decision. /sarcasm GW may make some incredibly boneheaded decisions but putting marines on the cover of every edition and supporting them more than any other army is not one of them. Regardless of whether or not you like marines, the majority of players who get into 40k start marine armies and are the biggest market to cater to. Marines of various flavors make up the largest segment of novels, video games, promotional materials, and models... and it's not because they are unpopular. GW is simply catering to fan desire to tabletop roleplay a superpowered hitech human hero. Simply because that desire is not expressed by your personal decidely minority view doesn't make the situation a mess.
While I would wholeheartedly support a non-shoehorned way of fitting the other races into a campaign (admittedly hard to do), a 30k campaign is an oft requested fan favorite despite its almost entirely human only nature.

If you want to feel alienated by an event that, fluff-wise, involves mostly space marines, go ahead. It is your right as a person to feel opressed.
Or, you can build a marine army (which is quick and easy, especially with HH era heraldry) and join in.
Or find another way to participate.

LOL, I can't wait until the day GW decides to do an all xenos worldwide battle day like between the Eldar and the Necrons during the war with the Old Ones so I can complain about my Tau, IG, and especially Space Marines being ignored. Never mind the fact that my armies were evolutationarily still likely small rodents during that timeline... GW will be alienating me!!

Yes, pretty much!
I realize the "Space Marine Hate" is always fashionable, but it is odd to think that GW/ BL/ FW would ever move away from what makes them a lot (the most?) of money - especially when you add in the "We've been telling them for years that it would be a license to print money" Pre-Heresy option...

LOL, nah. I don't feel alienated, I'm just commenting that GW has seems to be spending their resources on an event that doesn't interest me at all.
I think your advice is pretty poor though, and I'm not going to take it. I'll just spend my money on another company's game I do like, rather than buy models I don't like for factions I don't like that play in a style I don't like just to join in their tournament, thanks.

Based on most of the comments in this thread, I chose not to suggest "do something else and have your own fun," as that seemed like unlikely advice to be followed.

It might be more Space Marines, but it's some of the richest material available to the Space Marines, there's also a strong Chaos element.
I would greatly welcome a proper exploration of this with a full miniatures line. Though that still seems a long way off. Will have to make do with all the unofficial Emperors and Primarchs, as GW won't tackle the subject.

This appears to be just a "campaign" between a couple of stores on the West Coast.
