I consider my own safety somewhat more important than the history of the armour i'm wearing. For non-combat use it's fine, but when life and death is but a shell away, i'd prefer to be cased in the newest, most technologically up-to-date chunk of plasteel that I can find. Also, it's "you're" when using an apostrophe (when replacing "you are"), and "your" when referring to ownership

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

"Older is better" when you consider they will salvage and rebuild (some) warship hulks rather than build from scratch. Usually we're talking the really ancient hulls with the neat or high end archaeotech in them or something that would take the Imperium a long time to build on its own (EG the Divine Right.) But the other end of the spectrum is 'Old is Old' which is represented by fire ships.
What the Imperium does with technologly is fundamentally schizophrenic, in no small part due to the AdMech itself. Sometimes they're all against using or researching the tech of the Foul Xenos.. until they want to get their hands on the latest finds of some Tau or Necron device. Innovation and research might be frownd upon or considered heresy... up until some aged and respected Magos/Archmagos decides HE wants to invent something - watch the AdMech fall over itself in self-justification. whereas if anyone else does that (or tries to hold back STC tech -EG Space Wolves or Blood Angels) they get all stodgy and point to the dogma/doctrine of the Cult and wield their power to enforce it.

RecutalThreat wrote:Well hopefully this doesn't turn into a why no guard in power Armour thread. (It would require a whole lot of AdMech priests to bless there armour before evrey battle and you can't go into battle with your'e suit's machine spirit not being pleased) as said whole regiment's it's un-viable maybe a General and his Bodyguard but they would be slow and cumbersome since they don't have BC)
Though wasn't the Land Speeder not forgotten then was re-discovered?? (The reason the great power's Astarte's don't have them)
Though okay maybe power Armour would not be forgotten, Though I think with terminator's Particullary the Terminator captain's with there Crux Terminatus which is embed with a piece of The Emperor of Mankind's Armour.
It surely does take long for the processes of creating Terminator Armour I don't know the fluff but for me it would seem that it would require a specialist for every part to be constructed Kind of like a Supremely skilled Engineer/Priest/Artist.
Just Imagine if they forget the Incantation's to please the suit's Machine Spirit (Disaster I say)
(Melissia huge fan of the DF story of your's )
I don't think that there's an actual fragment of the Emperor's armor in the terminator suits. It's just a placebo to make the Marines feel better.

@ NL_Cirrus: I laughed so hard I nearly wet myself at that. Honestly the IoM needs to stop listening to overzealous religious freaks.
the tanith book is a case and point. they could have easily taken the STC of iron warriors (i assume robots akin to terminators of Mancrons) to be studied by the admech then found a way to send the souls of guardsmen in there and then boom Bada$$ super soldiers at the cost of half a suit of power armor.

Indeed. For the sake or reconciling background and practicality, I would presume that over ten thousand years of damage and wear, repair and maintenance, the few suits of crusade-era power armour still in use would probably have had their original moving parts replaced many times over, meaning there would be little practical difference in functionality between one and a brand new suit of Mk 7. Limitations imposed by the suits' design would, I would presume, be tolerated for just the reasons you have stated. Mk 1 would be an exception: since it is explicitly stated to be inferior, I would expect the few surviving suits to be retained for historical (and indeed religious) value, and worn (if ever) solely for ceremonial purposes. It's worth adding that the history of power armour types was published a very long time ago, before the present Adeptus Mechanicus background was fully established: in Rogue Trader they were portrayed as being constrained more by ignorance than by dogma.

he ASSUMED it was tainted, although i left my book in the states i think he just assumed that it was tainted because it was beneath a chaos stronghold, but it had not been touched in forever

It was also twisted, and spawning psychotic, equally twisted beings, not to mention that the Iron Men were hostile before chaos tainted them... It also wasn't the same sort of STC as one generally talks about; a proper STC is a library of blueprints, formulas, and instructions for building a wide variety of useful items, with a printer attached to it. While there are remaining STCs, there's no instance of a complete, undamaged one, and the majority of the AdMech library of STC designs is comprised of the print outs made by STCs, or copies thereof.
