Right here. After having Morrowind for awhile, I got the game of the year addition. It's just as good as I remember. Edit: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/419561.page

Morrowind's scenery is the best I have ever seen in any game, despite the fact it's close to being 10 years old. It's one of the few fantasy games that actually feels like another world instead of a alternate Medieval Europe.

Agreed, thats why I spent over a year of my life playing it constantly when it dropped. Seriously good game, definitely the best of its time anyways. But if it were remade on the Skyrim engines and whatnots, that would be pretty badass. And agreed once more, they need spears, those were one of my fav weapon types.

Nowhere near as pretty as the new release but a lot easier to install with easy mod links and a quick how to.

For me, Morrowind was probably the worst of the series.. Daggerfall was probably the best, and Oblivion and Skyrim are definitely better than Morrowind. It's kinda unfair to compare Arena though.

Is it possible to use a 360 controller on the PC version?

Did you honestly say Oblivion was better than Morrowind? It had some minor gameplay improvements, but overall, that game is the worst out of TES series and the worst game Bethesda has ever made. Best example of voice acting is only good if it is quality voice acting.

Without a shadow of a doubt. Morrowind was a severe disappointment for me, coming off of Daggerfall.

What I disliked most about morrowind was the combat system, I'm fine with the admittedly dated graphics but the combat was such a turn off I've barely played more than a few hours of the game.
If the setting (which I've read up on greatly) and scenery (which was fantastic in every sense of the word) was added to skyrims game engine I would be a very happy camper.

I think most of what needed to be said has been said but I do want to reiterate that you should play the game first without mods (barring simple things like resolution enhancers and official DLC, which is free btw).
I've always felt mods kinda messed with the atmosphere of the game and makes it hard to really appreciate the world and story. That being said still get the PC version because you'll want to tinker with mods at some point.
Also make sure you get the GOTY edition for the expansions, which I recommend playing in order i.e. beat the main story of Morrowind, then Tribunal, then Bloodmoon. The stoy just seems to flow better that way.
Morrowind and it's expansions' main quests are probably the strongest in the Elder Scrolls series, and there's a lot of strange metaphysics and subtle fourth-wall breaking going on that isn't as apparent in the later games, I think because Michael Kirkbride's role as a writer seems to have waned since Morrowind. But you really have to throw yourself into it by reading the in game texts and digging deep into NPC conversations, and occasionly visting UESP and other wikis if you want to fully experience the setting. If you don't like to read Morrowind is not a game for you.
As for the combat it's only annoying in the beginning eventually you'll stop whiffing when your skill in weapons is high enough.
Lastly, don't forget the patches and official (free) DLC.
@ Melissia: I am dissapoint. Daggerfall has certainly not aged well but I can see someone liking it better than Morrowind, though in my opinion Daggerfall was too complex. Morrowind streamlined just enough to make it great, Oblivion on the other hand went too far down casual lane. It's not a bad game by any means. But better than Morrowind? That's crazy talk.
Skyrim on the otherhand I can certainly see being a strong entry in the series and better than Morrowind for many people (I'd rate it at 2nd under Morrowind). Interestingly enough, I found it to be most like Fallout than any other Elder Scrolls game

Daggerfall has aged better than most games from that era or even games that came 4-5 years later. I'd play it over NWN, Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Diablo, etc.
Compared to Morrowind and Skyrim it's by no means a great game and is extremely bland, but for the time period it was released it was amazing.

I'm going with a tie between Skyrim and Daggerfall for my #1 spot. Skyrim for its graphics, immersiveness, and furious nordic joy. Daggerfall for its scale and freedom.
Following that, I'd go Morrowind, then Oblivion, then Battlespire, then Arena (never played Redguard).

As someone who adored fallout three and new vegas I'm very happy with this comparison
I preferred fallout one and two to the early TES games too.

The original Fallout was and is, a fantastic game. Anyone who hasnt played it, needs to go buy it, you can get a triple pack for like 20 bucks or something like that.
And yea, Morrowind was leaps and bounds better then Oblivion. All Oblivion had on it was the combat system was indeed better, thats it. The story was complete ass. The only thing in Oblivion story wise that was really good was the DarkBrotherhood story line.

I'm surprised at how much people still play all those old Bioware, Interplay, and Black Isle games. I for one can't bring myself to replay some the classics like Fallout 1-2, Baldur's Gate 1-2, Planescape: Torment, and so on.
I think as far as PC RPG's go Diablo is as far back as I can go before things start to show their age in a bad way.
That being said I should play X-COM again, that's a great game no matter what year it is. But that's not really an RPG...I think...

Morrowind had a number of serious flaws. Location locked fast travel, an easily breakable enchanting mechanic, Cliff Racers, limited options in terms of increased travel speed, and a serious imbalance between spellcasting and weapon use. The world design was superior to Oblivion, but I'm not sure if that's the result of the uniqueness of Morrowind within the lore. The spell creation also, when it worked well, was pretty cool, as was the large number of armor locations. I also liked the absence of leveled enemies, though it did hurt exploration.
Oblivion had its flaws as well, facial animations and voice acting being the two often brought up, but the wonky leveling system was a big negative. It also had a somewhat generic environment (Not as generic as Daggerfall, which suffered from being quasi-Britain and model reuse.) But had a substantially better series of central quest lines (especially the Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood) Automatically Appended Next Post: asimo77 wrote:I'm surprised at how much people still play all those old Bioware, Interplay, and Black Isle games. The 3D isometrics hold up well, for the most part, I think. The character models are weak, but the environments, being essentially matte paintings, are quite good still.

I said this above, but Morrowind's single biggest weakness was that much of the world was just bland. It made exploring feel pointless.

I've been quite disappointed by Skyrim's versions of the dark brotherhood and thieves guild quests, I've completed the thieves guild line and I'm around halfway into the DB line yet the number of interesting missions is minimal. In oblivion the dark brotherhood had you attend a house party and slowly pick off guests cluedo style in one quest while in another you had to break into a blokes house and murder him using an animal head above his favourite chair.
In Skyrim? you just walk up to a dude in a town and kill him or do a short dungeon crawl then kill him.

On the plus side, the Companions questline and College questline are much better.
I do, though, wish they had done more with the Bard's College. That was a cool addition.

So many memories from Morrowind...the fact that i remember them at all is shocking , but the amount of details and volume is a testament to the games quality.
And all the Xcom's were awesum...too bad the new one looks like the same old same old.
