I prefer big games, since I mostly game at home or at a friends house. So 2000+ is ideal for 40k. for other tabetop games I prefer lower leevs of points

If we play 2v2 or 2v1 then its usually 1k or 1250 points each army, with 4 total armies for 2k-2500 points each side.

1v1 is usually 1500- 2k points each.

1750-2250pts.

Over 2250 and I find my opponents can rarely retain focus on the game long enough.

Either 1,500 or 1,750. Must actually make choices to create a good army, quick enough to get through a game and get home before the wife starts to stew in her own hatred of anything 40k, yet large enough to actually feel like a battle.

1750 doubles (875pts each).

I love playing alongside another player and facing multiple opponents - I just find it's more fun for me and there's a lot more banter between 4 people than 2. The army I'm working on is solely for the UK GW 40k doubles tournament in 2013 and is based around 875pts. I doubt I'll play 40k, or any tabletop system, in a 1v1 game again.

I dislike large games because I get overwhelmed by the number of units to control* and I prefer the small detachment/platoon feel than having a mighty army.

*I once left my Wood Elf scouts & waywatchers in a wood until turn 6 because I forgot all about them.

usually 2500, I prefer smaller games though so I can collect more armies than 1 or 2 at high points.

1500-1850pts for me. Perfect blend of picking what to bring, while being able to bring a good number of toys. Most codices feel balanced at that point level too.

1500 for my friends and I.

Any less and you can't really bring any fun toys, any more and you aren't making tough choices about what to bring. 1500 gives you a good sized force where you still have to make choices about what fun stuff you want to include.

I'll play whatever level I can find a match for, but I like the 1500 point level as the games are fairly quick and the unit choices are decent.

1250-1500 is fun for regular games, but I also enjoy 8000+ Apocalypse games (our last one was a 13000pts 2v4 game)

1500 for small evening games, 2000 for weekends.

If more than two players are involved 2500-4000.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Personally I prefer about 3000 pts. I have now acquired quite a lot of figures and I want to use them, including the larger more points heavy ones. Just like big games with loads on the table.

The past long while I've been playing 1500 point games.

Prior to that, I was playing 1000 point games, but neither side could take enough cool stuff for my tastes. I've tried Apocalypse games, but I lose interest when I see the 6 feet by 4 feet board - we don't have room for anything bigger - covered in miniatures. I gather the massive battles are of strong interest to some, but I guess I'm just not one of those people. Also, my opponent and I play our normal games over the course of a week or more, even at 1000 points, and we'd probably spent a night's gaming session just doing one side's stuff, which would be very boring to the other side, so the Apocalypse games end before they start.

I was thinking of taking it up to 1750 or 2000 points, to take more cool stuff, and even just more basic troops - though I do take 4 squads of Battle Sisters in my current 1500 points list. Then I was wondering if I shouldn't do just the opposite, and take the size of the game down to 750 or even 500 points, as we might complete games in a single night that way - especially considering that a lot of our time is spent sitting and examining our respective side's situation and considering possible strategies, which speeds up as the game goes on and units get offed. Hm, if we did choose to do so, we'd likely need to house-rule in a modification to the FOC, as 2 troops and 1 HQ for either side leaves almost no room for anything else in a 500 point game, unless we don't take any upgrades in said units.

That's the point of 500 and 750 pt games. It forces you to choose very carefully. That said it'd be easy enough to make it just 1 HQ, 1 Troop minimum on the foc omstead of 1/2.

My collection of armies is extensive and we tend to play character driven campaigns so depending on where the story takes us, we could go from Dark Heresy to 8000 points a side (our largest battle).

Today I fielded 9500pts in a mix of Dark Eldar and Tau (with a single unit of Fabius Bile and Chaos Marines) and frankly, other than the teething problem of it being really poorly organised it was rather fun and now I know whats what and how to fix problems on my side with fielding such a larch force (making movement trays for my infantry for a start...) will happily do it again.

Making my Happy to play Points range probably 500pts through to around 10,000+

I won't have a point limit for my self. I'm just going to keep making more and more troops and tanks for my Firehawk 1st Armored. Then make more Firehawk regiments.

Ill stop when the world stops revolving, and maybe not even then.

I've yet to play greater than 1000 points, mainly because my buddies nor I had a 6x4 table, though I have 1500 and 2000 points lists I'd love to try.
Matter of fact I could field up to 3000 points with my Tau.
