I did, I cut one of the skulls off a vehicle chain bit, glued it onto the end of sprue, flattened out some GS inside a small styrene box the cut of the shin guard and went to town stamping it to make the negative mold, then once it dried I put some water based lube (yes THAT lube, astroglide to be exact) in the mold and mashed more GS into it and voila, "skull carpets". Thanks by the way, I got my inspiration from folks on here making nice scratch builds as well.

Haha you know I'm just kidding buddy. Although it's hard to squeeze in WH40k building time when I'm gone from 6am until 10pm at night. Early next week though, I just ordered 9lbs of silicon so I should be good for quite a while.

Dude, those war hounds and dreadclaws are killer.
I'm looking forward to seeing the completed dreadclaw, and if they don't show up in the 6th ed CSM book, you could always use them as normal drop pods*.

*I'm really hoping CSM's will get pods in the 6th ed 'dex.

Well it's water-based so it air dries, no need to clean the mold after, and it IS the longest lasting...

So the leg master is now finished, and now that the extra silicon I ordered is in, I can cast a couple and stick them on there. I hope to finish both the top thrusters and bottom hatch this weekend and have the plans posted mid next week, so stay tuned.






On the left you see how much silicon I bought the first time, 1.1 lbs. On the right you see how much I bought this time, 9.8 lbs.

Still looking great, man. Can't wait for the templates......

So here it is with the four legs. Again for simplicity I modeled it in the angled "deployed" position. I know the FW one can also move up and down, but I like it closer to the ground, and you can use it as 12 Armor cover.

Thanks guys, sorry for the delay in progress, real life is such an inconvenience. I have the templates drawn, and tested for both the top and bottom, just need to actually build them. I should have everything built as well as the PDF assembled NLT Sunday.

subbed. i got a FW claw, it's an awesome model but was $$$ and had some, eh, challenging to overcome casting problems (only serious problems i've had with any of my resins, actually). looking forward to your PDF plans!

I'm gonna start with 3, but I may do 4. With the molds it will be hella easy. I may try and sell one or two as well, see if I can get anything for 'em to help pay back my casting materials cost. Schedule looks good for completion on Sunday.

I might be interested in a mold if you wanted to sell them....

Bottom hatch is finished, it's setting in a mold right now while I work on the main top thruster.






It's just set into place here. Also a note, when I make the PDF and tut remind me to do this part before the retro thrusters...it's very hard to move the little claws outta the way to squeeze the hatch through without breaking any of them, not to mention trying to guess the measurements.

Have you considered adding the ability to deploy to the legs?

What sort of hinging or slide movement would be necessary?

So progress on this guy has been slow, I've had to redo quite a bit, however I'm on the final version now and just need to crank out some detail work on it after class after the green stuff has set and then drop it in a mold.



I had some left over GS so I did two quick conversions outta my bits box. I needed Icon bearers for my Chosen Infiltrator Squads so I made Nurgle and Tzeentch.





Otherwise I see the project being finished this evening and while I'm casting a bunch more I'll construct the PDF and tut and should have those up this evening as well.

So I know I'm far far behind my promised deadline but I'm very close to the completion of the model, PDF plans, and Tut to post up on here. I really really hope to finish and have it all up Monday, depends if the plastruct shows up in the mail though. In the mean time here is the progress on the original, just a teaser photo though as there is still much to be done.

That thing is beautiful........

So the Dreadclaw is Finished! I hate nothing more than painting, such a pain in my @*#.... so tedious, especially when I'm trying to figure out the color scheme still. Anyways I'm happy enough with it so here is the finished product, I won't be embarrassed to put it on the table top. Tutorial and Plans to follow very soon.... I mean it this time haha.
