Knight titan?

I was a bit deceitful, I am building two Reaver Titans.



Here they are a few hours and pints later. The progress I put up today was actually 3 days of me chipping away at it, but today encompassed cutting, assembling all 20 toes and the ankles. It became very boring and repetitive to cut 20 of the same piece out in a row or 3 separate parts, then assemble them, so it took me a bit. Not to mention I'm on the road this week visiting family since I have a few weeks between semesters. In any case this is as about as far as I'll get until next week once I'm back "home" as well as the fact that I am waiting on some supplies and tools to come in. The reavers I am building will be based off the FW ones with the aid of many notes from both a94marbo's and mxwllmdr's scratch builds, so much of the leg work (get it, get it ) has graciously been done by them (check their threads out, outstanding work).

I decided I liked the way the 5 toes looked a bit better they the current FW 4 toe design, not to mention the design work was done for my by the Reaver Titan DIY plans; but I was ready to change my mind halfway through the cutting process. So look back next week for what should be some more progress on these two, maybe some detail work on them tomorrow. In the mean time I'll be trying to finish up my Blight Drones.

Edit: BTW, the ankles, toe joints and toes are not affixed to one another yet, so they appear a bit wide. I will attach them after I build the legs so I am able to give the legs a bit of a dynamic walk and still be able to pose the feet to give an even/stable base.

Ugh, no kidding, just flipping through the entire set of plans made me want to quit scratch-building forever.

Thats why I didn't use 'em....

I must admit, I wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper just to get the Forge World model. Still, my hat comes off to you!

Cheaper? No, never. I have a total of about 50 bucks materials into the two I have already began...


And for another hundred (because hindsight is 20/20) I am gonna get another three.....


Time spent building them? Maybe, but honestly cleaning parts sanding sprues off, dryfitting, pinning and all that other stuff one resin models of that size and weight requires is not too far ahead of what it took me to scratch out the two I have almost done. So, No.... Not cheaper....


Is it worth it to commission the build of one for yourself from someone to build it? That depends on how highly the artist values his/her work but to me it is about the same....

I'd have to agree with mxwllmdr on all those points especially the price. To purchase the FW Reaver with 3 weapon arms comes to a bit under $1,000 USD, not to mention if I wanted two...

Also, for the most part, I enjoy the building process and of course the appreciation and satisfaction you get from a completed job that you are pleased with that is all your own handy-work.

So the new toy has come in so it's time to get some work done.

Man, I love my Dremel. I have the drill press for it and want that circle cutting attachment yours came with....

Is that how you get all of yours to look so perfect? Finally I have the power! Mwahahahahaa...

Well, I wouldn't say iwas all that perfection, now, but thank you. And no. Actually the dremel is responsible for very little detail work....


The inlayed aquila's on the legs and weapons sponson shoulders of the Reavers were done with the Dremel, though....

Well I assumed that, I'm marking my 1" PVC to cut out those 4 sections to make room for the pistons to the 1/2" inside, then I'll be moving up to the 'thigh' section and hips.

I WANT A MEDAL CAUSE I CALLED IT!

Mxwllmdr, whenever you get the chance, I'm on the Ambulance today so I won't be doing any work.

cormadepanda, you only get half the medals since you didn't guess that it was TWO of them...

That lower leg section is two parts. That is why there are two measurements. the bottom (labeled 1) at 2 inches and the upper (labeled 2) at just over 1 inch.I took a ring of the pipe and a tube made of plasticard to give it a sunken in look. Check the Build section of this thread for close ups.....


And because I am stupid the right side number 2 indicates the actual inches.....


Same with the hip width coming in at 6.75 inches.....

What are the diameters of the two tubes used for the 'thigh'? 1/2 and something else? Thank you sir, your aid is invaluable.
