Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all your praise and help!

@wulfe luer, that sounds like a great idea... definitely something to consider when I model the next assault squad! Up to now I've been more focussed on the tanks, but that sounds like an awesome idea for some unique infantry

@tomcarter thanks very much, and sounds interesting, but sadly I'm from north of Birmingham

And here's the land raider that was my test case for the paint scheme:

Wow, good use of green stuff on the eagle! I like the feathers on the wingtip best personally. I like your swooping eagles on the side of the landraider btw

Hi, could do with a bit of advice. More or less got the colourscheme for the wings down, but not sure what to do for the sides of the body. Which is better out of these, or what else could be done to inprove one of them. I'm not overly convinced by either tbh.

This is my progress on the wings:

Taking a cue from natural history, the camouflage that predators like birds (or sharks) tend to develop is darker on the top, lighter on the bottom, to reflect what is better able to conceal them when observed from that angle (darker from above, viewed against the ground, and lighter from below, viewed against the sky)

With that in mind, the second option would be the one to go for, good job on all the other stuff BTW.

We find comfort among those who agree with us - growth among those who don't. - Frank Howard Clark

Sounds logical, I'll probably do both sides like the second one then. Might keep the fadeout to black from on the leg - feathers of the first picture. Three stripes is wayyy too much though!

Nearly done! Just got the cloak, some freehand and the underside of the eagle to go. Not too sure about the grot on the eagles base? Should I keep it?

OK after seeing this, I'm going to throw away all my paints and brushes...

Incredible and inspiring work sir. Keep the grot, whimsy is good...

And on reflection I'll keep my painting stuff and keep practicing.

Thanks very much Mr TreadHead. I think I'll keep the grot. Just got the base and tail to paint now, then I'll upload some pictures. Don't give up painting, that landspeeder storm of yours looks very good. It could use a few big white eagles on it though : )

Thank you sir, and I may paint some big white eagles on it in the hopes of confusing all the BA players I go against. Might live past turn 3 then...

Brilliant work, might I add. Definitely one of the best blogs I have seen in a while.

Although, one thing. The sword. I think it could do with a touch of white as an extreme highlight.

Wow, thanks very much, that's very encouraging! Where abouts do you think I should put the white highlight on the sword? At the tip? or on all the edges?

Just an extremely fine touch on the tip and blended down the edge of the blade. Keeping with a NMM subtlety.

OK, will give it a go.

@Yellinboy, it's just a simple blend straight from black to white on each feather. Took ages to shade it and highlight it though, as I had to keep mixing new shades so as not to be too harsh or two subtle over any sections!

Top notice painting and modeling. I would suggest though, that you drill out the barrels of your weapons. Just noticed on your last picture of the Vindicator that the storm bolter wasn't drilled. Could do the same with the exhaust stacks as well.

I am with you I do like the eagles on your razorbacks the best.

Otherwise excellent work. Great free hand work as well.

Thanks, the razorbacks are my favourites too : )

Hmmm... Drilling gun barrels. I'd thought about it but never really got round to it. It would look a lot better I suppose. How would I go about doing it? And which bits are the exhaust stacks? the silver bits or the ones beneath them?
