You got it, Wolf. Sounds like your work is in dire need of an upgraded system! But they do let you browse openly, that's a plus. We've got a pretty restrictive filter at my place, I mean, I can use a mirror, but that's mildly vexing.

Is this campaign going to tie in all forces in some way or another?

lol, that was my first thought, too. "Hmm, two good codices against two of the worst in the game..."

I'm betting all my money on blue, personally.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

This isn't a campaign.

It's an in-store event, celebrating the release of "Know No Fear", the Horus Heresy novel detailing the Word Bearers' attack on the Ultramarines' hegemony.

There would be no background impact, no matter what, because this isn't meant to be some great big ol' thing like the Eye of Terror.

1.: It's not a campaign. It's a gaming day. One.
2.: Manly Men doing immodest things with Manly Men with Spikes. And no care was given that day.
I'll probably drop in, though, to watch the battle between Blood Angels, GK, Space Wolves and IG, and Blood Angels, GK, Space Wolves and IG.
If I see even a single Vanilla Marines, true CSM or Daemon army, I'll eat my Fire Warriors and start to collect Chaos...

It would have a lot of potential as a canon event, done well (ie. by the old writers like Rick Priestley), and it's a little dissapointing that it isn't.

Gathering the Informations.

Why in the world do you expect it to be?

"In store events" have a lot of potential as canon events...to be terrible.
Especially in areas where the gamer population and their armies is virtually unknown.

Hell, if worldwide campaign didn't work out well(cheating, etc)--why would a series of "in-store campaigns" be any different?

Actually, an instore campaign would be theoretically more reliable than the usual method. You just tell the store manager that you won, have your opponent confirm it, and he'll log it in.
Since its the store manager taking care of it and not the faceless masses, there should be less cheating.

Maybe i'm stating the obvious here, but isnt the new 6ed starters kit supposed to be Marines Vs Chaos? Could this event not be a prologue of some sort for the new starters kit?

The landmass of places 2+ hours from a GW store in the U.S. is about 2x the size of New Zealand. I live in a metropolitan area with several hundred thousand people that has about 10 different gaming stores.

But no GW.

Australia - a country the size of the continental United States with a tiny fraction of the population all clustered in very small areas around the coast due to overwhelmingly large areas of essentially inhospitable land, concentrating the areas where the most people (and therefore stores) are located.

Continental United States - a country the size of Australia with an enormous population spread out across just about the entire length and breadth of it, creating a situation that GW cannot realistically cover with their (failing) retail store business model.

Australia =/= The United States when it comes to games stores.

You or I might have GW's near to us (I have one literally up the road from me - drive for 30 seconds, make a right, park, walk another 50 metres and I'm there - and another about a 1/2 hour drive). Some people in the US would have to drive the equivalent of half-way across NSW to find one. It's a big place with a lot of people.

I'm assuming that he means that the current Chaos codex is bad. And really How is this going to work when there is barely such a thing as Word Bearers. They have no SC, nor rules to speak of. So really Those of us with a Word Bearers army have simply a "chaos" army painted maroon and silver that has a few more daemons than normal.

Which is another reason why the current Codex is crap. I just looked at a copy of its predecessor. Its ALOT better. More detail, more options, and rules to field fluffy legions (or their variants).

Aren't Ultramarines basically just SMs painted blue? I thought they were vanilla. Hopefully in 6th, all SM Chapters will be in a single codex, just like the Chaos chapters. Level the playing field.

Beware, exaggeration:
Yes they are and they are so hated by most players that noone plays Ultramarines in GW Stores any more.
New Players might be an exception here, they don't know better, use the boxarts as reference for painting and then get a bucketload of hate from the establishment (12-13 year old boys...) for their force, so that they switch lighteningfast to drunken-vikings, vampire-imposters, inquisition silver-psychos or sell their marines for necrons, tau or IG.
So it's basically

Ultramarines: 0 (everyone hates them)
Word Bearer: 0 (noone plays them)

and yes, I'm a cynical man saying that with 4000 points worth of "Courage and Honor" Marines
