Idk Solitaire was kinda bunk. I mean who really wants to fight Slaanesh over and over.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

Ever?

I'm going with Eldar Guardians with Shuriken Catapults back in 1st edition. A single Guardian (just one) was capable of killing everything in the opposing army that had a Toughness value in one shot.

It wasn't likely, but it was possible. What was likely, was any unit Guardians shot at was completely wiped out. That happened all the time.

Or possibly the Avatar or an Exarch with Sustained Assault. They could fight every opposing model in the same turn in assault. That solves the vehicle problem the Shuriken Catapult would have.

Pfft, modern Grey Knights. Those guys are like a baby slap-fight when "ever" gets thrown around.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

Personally, I have never seen a more agreed upon master beat stick than the current 5th ed Swarmlord incarnation in 6th edition rules.

Everything else is utterly debate able...the kind of community agreement about this guy is something I don't see anywhere else...

I wouldn't call him an all time overpowered unit though.

Reading through this thread I thought people had lost their minds... until I looked at the timestamps.

Be thankful even the most absurdly powerful characters in the current iteration of 40k are not even in the same league as any tooled up character in 2nd edition.

So, mister terminator librarian, you have an insane statline, a refractor field, a power field and a displacer field, you could roll for all of them, none of that 'pick the best save' nonsense, 4 psychic powers, and a 3+ save on 2d6, followed by a 5+, then a 2+ and a 3+ if you got that far which would take you out of combat in a random direction. good job killing HIM. assassins were a bit crazier than that as well.

People playing today think riptides are crazy, you havent seen anything!
