I'm sure she'd break your teeth if you even tried.

However it could well appear as if you are indeed trying to bait or get a rise out of Mamzel Luna, who has dealt with the situation very gracefully, the paucity of relevant information in your posts in this thread go someway further to suggesting this.

It would indeed be best if you stopped this sort of behaviour.

Thank you.

The last word really isn't a smart idea in this situation. Really.

For the record I rather like GW's skeletons however find the price to be ridiculous. So considering that Mantic would pip them for me personally as Mantic's are quite sufficient for a horde of animated bones.

I definately prefer the GW skellies myself, especially as they combine well with the Khemri models so I can get the Lahmian theme really going in strong in my 'Army of the Silver Pinnacle'.
To offset the price a wee bit, you could always add the extra arms/heads/torsos to other models and convert some 'fresher' skeletons/recently raised recruits?! Use them to fill out the back couple of ranks and/or as your summoned re-inforcements through the 'Master of the Dead' necro ability.

Of corse, I also got about 100 GW skellies cheap off of all the other local VC players who bought battalions for the old $108 prince and didn't want their boneboys because ghouls were all the rage! (look who's laughing now!)
Between the boxes i bought myself, both VC & TK and what I picked-up off of all the ghoul maniacs, I think I'm upto close on 200 skellies now!

I'd like to do some more fence-sitting here, if possible. The current GW ones are nice, but as others have said the price makes them prohibitive for larger units. A way around this would be to use some kind of filler/diorama, which can substitute for a dozen or so models, and unsurprisingly is becoming a more common (if not entirely popular) option for people these days.

I'm not sure why people seem to dislike the Mantic ones so much, personally I think they look fine. I would have more of an issue with the lack of options that comes with them, but for the price they are definitely a serious contender. I've seen big blocks of them in the flesh (along with Mantic ghouls and zombies, which I think look really good) and if a little bit of effort is put into them, they are perfectly serviceable. I'm guessing a lot of the negativity comes from people who feel hard done by having shelled out for the GW ones, and so have to justify their purchase with a rather overly negative reaction to what they might have otherwise have bought.

Whatever you choose, the current range is a lot better than what we had 5-6 years ago. The old GW ones in particular with the 'Them bones' massive skulls and hands, I have a VC army and had to do a fair bit of work to become satisfied with them:

I believe he has made some Infinity purchases recently which would seem to suggest otherwise

Personally, proportions. Same reason I hate the Tomb Kings range. GW's VC skeletons actually look like they are skeletons, that were once inside a body. They're proportioned really well. Mantics skeletons (as well as GW's Tomb Kings range) look like they're people in skeleton costumes.

Well, I guess it is down to personal like or dislike of style. Although I can't see how these look like a person in a costume, unless it's Karen Carpenter (in 2012).

The below GW ones look OK, but when you consider Mantic ones are less than half price (and thats before you get any kind of army deal) I'm struggling to see a reason to choose the GW ones, apart from the aforementioned extra bits you get.

The 'people in skeleton costumes' look comes from the proportions. On the Mantic skeletons, the arms and legs are as thick as arms and legs are on comparably scaled humans. They don't look like they could have actually fit inside a body. To me, that throws the look off.

As I said, the GW Tomb Kings range suffers from the same thing. The VC range are quite thin, and when placed next to a human from another 28mm range, actually look like they could have been that models skeleton.

Off topic, but related to all the 'loki only buys GW' crap - I found out last night my FLGS stocks Gomezone now. First thing I found were the Mournful Knights. Guess I'll finally have some Blood Knights. Wonder if they have that scantily clad female vampire.

Which is funny when you compare their proportions to the Elves...

Y'know, I'm not really a fan of the Gamezone ones. I'm looking into using Chaos Knights as the basis and making grotesque styled helms for my own Blood Knights.

My problem with using Chaos Knights is they look too beefy. Which is fine for heavily muscled beefcake Chaos Knights, but I always see Vampires as being lean and their power coming from their unnatural speed. Gamezones knights get that idea across. Gw's Blood Knights do too, but for $165au for 5, the only way I can justify them is as a reward to myself for finishing my VC's. And I'd rather get to using them in games before then.

My issue with them is the fething narrow bits of metal attaching them to their bases. I might have to pin them to resin bases to get any kind of stability out of those joins.

I thought the Chaos Knights looked too beefy originally...then I saw the Vampire riding the Zombie Dragon

Doesn't help that I'm not a fan of the Blood Knight on the zombie dragon either.

Because y'know Elves aren't extremely thin and frail compared to humans right? especially their skeletal frames ...

*Sigh* ^^ FIrst Loki, and now you, how can two people be objectively wrong about two different things in a single thread?

Sorry for the thread highjack (and I hope OP is happy to see these if he doesn't know about them), but I think this has to be one of the best fantasy sculpts on the market right now, let alone for just VC.

I love their zombie wolves (read 'Dire Wolves') actually as well, the things are massive, the size of a horse, and look terrifying!

Question:

Do any of these 'bargain' skeletons come bare-bones? I play Tomb Kings, and I'd be fine with using extra bits on other skellies, but that's only if they're not wearing European armour and rags.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Only wargame factory and GW have those old plain bare bone models.

Reaper has them as well, but they are in metal

Those Wargames Factory skellies actually look rather good! And they even have Egyptian ones, to boot. Thanks for the direction.

They're not bad for the price, have a box I got for using towards basing an army up. They're reminiscent of the first skeleton army ones from years ago though as said, they do have a greek feel to them. Jason and the Argonaughts was an inspiration . Though with some different shields it would change the look dramatically imo, and the hand weapons aren't exactly huge.
For bare bones I'd probably go for these, especially with TK. Anyone talented with GS unlike me, and has the inclination could do great things with these in the long run.
I'm not a huge fan of the mantic ones simply because of the review they got from a friend who painted a few up and his opinion is to me worth listening to with models, but that said, the price is nice for the amount you get. Just go with whichever you like the look of best and in your price range you're willing to pay. Maybe AoW will come out with some next as skeletons are always useful
