Molotovsoda wrote:the buttresses were either going to be the GW ones or we would cast our own. the idea was to have the floor&walkway be one cast, the wall and trim to be another and the butressess be one, followed by the doorway, and finally a mold for the door itself. at that point we would have enough corridor pieces and we could decorate each one differently before painting so they wouldn't all look exactly alike. at least that was the idea
That sounds workable. The "floor" section you have would probably cast ok (without the grating anyway) In my thread you'll see I've been working on a similar design concept.

Yeah this is why if we decide to do this kind of table we're going to order hirstarts molds instead, its less of a headache for myself and the girlfriend. we just have to get the club members to chip in to buy it cause im not about to be bothered to buy the set, cast it, build it all on my time and dime

Hey all, I've been in El paso for a while hanging out with my brother and all that, I have had tons of time to think about my templars and vampires. I've ordered the upgrade box for templars so thats coming in a few days, in the mean time i'm working on some test models for templars as well as my corpse cart and necromancer, updates with pictures either tomorrow or tonight

First two templars are more or less done. I wanted the armor to feel worn but still have the sheen coming off the shoulders because its still the focal point and it'll look sick on the table

1) the penal legion in orange is great, as is their battered chimera
2) Liked the space marine captain in blue
3) dragon skull looks great, but the white finish seems to be lacking some depth

Hey Dakka!
I've updated the first post with my current work bench stuff and I am hoping that by the end of next week to have some wargaming progress completed and some sexy pictures of stuff to show you guys (I haven't posted my BT dread yet -sadface-) and so forth BUT the meat of my time will be spent planning this cities of death board for my close by shop, who btw is going to have my dragon skull on display (if you are in the jersey area and bump into her by chance)
sooo more updates on that after the art show this weekend and guys don't be shy with comments, I love C&C, makes me feel like im not wasting effort maintaining this blog

Loving your work dude, those templar termies are awesome, especially the second one down, the one with the banner.
Both the banner and his face are excellently done, thats a really great skin tone, don't suppose you remember how you did it?
The basing and scenery you've done are also pretty awesome looking, Keep up the great work!

Hey, I didn't actually think anyone comments on this so I'm terribly sorry for the delayed response!
How I do skin tones (be very comfortable with GW washes)
the first thing you need to know is that you take all the wash out of a brush you can actually wick the wash right off the model if you've applied to much. knowing this and practicing doing this will improve this effect.
1: paint the skin areas white.
2: when dry apply a very thin coat of nuln oil, be sure to hold the model upside down when applying it (the wash will go into the areas where shadows should be. quickly turn the model over and begin wicking the large pools of wash out of the raised areas of the head (forehead, nose, cheeks, chin.let this dry, if its too dark go back with white and highlight the areas that are too dark which would not normally be shaded if the light was directly overhead.
3. in the same way apply a thin coat of earth shade whatever its called wash. the first coat will end up being a very pale tan. when dry apply another coat of this wash in the same way, wicking the pools off raised areas, these raised areas will still have some brown on them keeping this lighter browns on the raised areas naturally. continue to apply layers of wash until the skin is dark enough or light enough.
remember to practice on spare heads first before commiting to an assembled model. this technique takes some practice but as you can tell the results look very natural

Ha ha sorry it was probably me being late to the party
Thanks for that i'll try it out as soon as I can, again great work man and I appreciate the really fast response, I'll hopefully post my results up soon
I'm not terrible with the washes but I could probably do with the practice so this is right up my alley at this stage

once you get good with the washes you can achieve some amazing results, keep at it and practice. another thing you can try is doing your shoulder pad edges on marines adding wash right over the lip of the pad, i'll post results later today on that, it really adds more depth. I'm working on my version of the emperors champion

I have custom made my emperors champion for our flgs community campaign. Each time he kills an enemy warlord I will add a skull to the ffoam core in his base, any other awesome feats will get him scrolls, servoskullls and so forth,

Hey all, we are running an escalation campaign at my FLGS and I've just finished mocking up our campaign map, if anyone would like the blank slate of this let me know and I can put it up. If you are photoshop savy leave a comment and I can get you the .psd.
If there is interest I'll post up the other supplements to our campaign as I do them.
The current factions are: Order, Disorder & Hive fleet
