They're definitely looking sharp, I can't wait till you get some paint on them. Have you figured out a paint scheme yet?
I like the helmeted look... but I always prefer helmets, why wouldn't you wear one?

Glad you like them. I've been pretty set on the paint job from even before i bought the models, i'm going for a dark grey and a mustard yellow. I'll probably throw in some dark red too, my Juves will have 'red shirts'. Helmets make sense but, in most cases, you can get more character into the model without one i think. Even the boss will have a helmet for these guys though. +1 internets if anyone can guess my plans for the Gang Leader.

Awesome conversion work on figures so detailed, tiny and fiddly as to commonly be called... "unconvertible"!

Thanks very much, the support means a lot! 'Unconvertible' isn't in my vocabulary. I'll be ordering the rest of my Gang Leader tomorrow and iv'e decided to order a model to convert into the Rogue Trader from the fluff too! Here are two little teasers: While i'm waiting i'll try and work on the fluff.

That Kroot? pic is wicked, even if it is just a quick sketch. Definite Tau influence there, with a dash of Predator for some reason. Stop me if I'm wrong.
It should be a good scheme. Might even give it a slightly industrial tinge to it?

It's a Sole.
Yeh the Kroot sketch is sweet, i found it online. There is a guy who drew loads of ideas for new Tau units on one of the other 40k forums, it is one of his.
Yeh i'm hoping they will have, as you said, an industrial, hive city vibe once they are weathered a bit but at the same time look like pretty new, high tech uniforms. Fingers crossed.

It gives a feel for the richness of the yellow. They remind me of the Yellowjackets for the Mercs.
I definitely salute the plan. With a small army sort of deal like Necromunda and Infinity, painting a small group a color that tends to cause headaches won't be nearly as bad.

As weird as it sound, dark purple will be a great complimentary color for that yellow. May consider it when picking out details.

Thank you both!
@Chem - Ah yes, the Yellow Jackets, they may have influenced me subconsciously, i'd forgotten about them until just now. They are very similar to th effect i hope to achieve. The main problem i found with painting yellow was how runny it all was, i was trying to get away with drybrushing it on but kept having to stop to dry it out a bit rather than diluting it as is normally the case when painting.
Do you think drybrushing is a good way to go with these guys or am i not getting the most out of them that way?
@Blue - I totally get what you mean about the dark purple.
Have a seat children.
When i was a young lad i remember cavorting in a field of a balmy summers eve, as children are want to do. On one particular occasion, as i picked through the dense, crisp reeds of a nearby farm, a flash of colours stopped me in my tracks. A ancestral memory had been conjured forth, deeper rooted and more ancient than the valley i trudged through. Paralyzed by fear i squinted against the glare of the sun, no longer did i appreciate to warmth i had been basking in.
And there before me, atop a feathery stem, was the warning sign that had shaken me so. Poised in ever readiness, devising some malicious plan, was an intruder, an arachnid of unknown origin. The vibrant golden yellow and royal purple told me more than words ever could...
Anyway i'll stop writing in a strange archaic tone and get back to the point. Deep purple would work great on these guys but i'm planning on giving my Juves 'red shirts' using a dark red, i'll have to be careful not to put too many extra colours in. I'll see how it pans out.

I
Hate
Spiders.
Anyway! There is no shame in drybrushing. We all know the pain and agony which is yellow. And I refuse to prime white, so it's extra agonizing for me.
I layerlayerlayerlayerlayer. Golden yellow is an absolutely beautiful color, I mean spot on, once you get it up to it's proper shade it's absolutely gorgeous. It's this excellent tone between Construction Yellow and Lambo Yellow and I love it. But for me to get that proper shade I have to do lots and lots and lots of wet layers. Drybrushing has never given me the same effect.
Iyanden Darksun is my bestest best friend. Though Tausept Ochre works as well.
My biggest problem with yellow is how you need to do the smooth layers, and hence it needs to be really watery. It has a tendency to run all sorts of places you don't want it to. So I tend to do all of the yellow first, let it get all over the place, and then take the time and clean it all up.
Or... whatever! You're no stranger to painting. I'm probably preaching to the choir.

Haha, i hate spiders too! That thing definitely wasn't from British soil either, probably got out of a banana box or something. I have spider problems during the summer, i get these huge big things that come in to the house and just do whatever the frak they want. You can here them moving about on the laminate they are so big!
Anyway, yellow! That is some really good advice man you definitely aren't preaching the choir, i'm very much a beginner with a lot to learn.
I used watery layers of Golden Yellow over white to get my original colour.
Then i washed it with Devlan Mud.
I drybrushed the Golden Yellow back on.
And finally i drybrushed Sunburst Yellow on the higher points.
The effect was okay but i think i'll use highlights and layers like you suggested when it comes to doing the actual gang. Thanks again for the advice, it's invaluable!

You're welcome! I think the layering will look pretty sharp.
I would suggest skipping on the Sunburst yellow though. take and mix a bit of white in with your Golden, and then try a highlight of that. It doesn't seem to make much difference in theory, but the as a highlight I think it looks better. The Suburst is a radically different color than the Golden, much more neon in design.
I normally abhor mixing paints, but as I've progressed in life, skill, and patience, I've forced myself to start doing it, and the results are excellent. I couldn't get those wonderful blues on my Hassassins without the mixing of paints!

This model has already been very interesting to convert. I jumped in without planning for a change and for a while i thought i'd ruined it. Finally though my idea has started to come together and it's not been a disaster. Here is a little taste of where i am at right now:
Next i need to bulk up the 'cockpit.' Over and out!
