Personally as a GK player I don't really care so long as the conversion is done well, but that is my opinion on most/all conversions. I haven't seen any of the Daemon ones you speak of, but I can imagine a pretty cool combination of a DK and a Soulgrinder. Ones I have seen have all been Ork and typically look good.

Agreed, the looted DKs look great! I haven't seen a badly done one yet.

The bloodletter-DKs are quite good aswell.

Yeah I was thinking about buying a box of overly priced grey knights and convert them to being Chaos Space Marine possessed just for Laughs.... of course I hate modeling and painting, but might have to do it just to see the Grey Knight players look on his face when he sees the unit of possessed marines. It might not be fully fluff accurate because Grey knights are trained to withstand the twisting corrupting influence of the Chaos that the Grey Knights wield but even the strongest resistance will brake sooner or later, and if the Grey Knights are alive in the war and tormented and torutured long enough their will would brake. It is just a matter of time.

Who cares. Fact is, the Dreadknight is the only "roughly-imperial" walker that looks like it could actually.. ya know.. walk. After 25 years of having to deal with gakky Mr. Strong-styled walking Washingmachines, it's a revelation. I bought 5 so far for my various armies, replacing the ugly Box-Dreads, etc.. and I don't even play Grey Knights. The model in itself made me spend more on GW stuff early last year than I did in the previous 5 or so. Every army should have one and never again blight a gaming table with ugly box-dreads. It's easily the best model GW put out in the last 15 years or so.

Contemptor dreads and Sentinels would disagree with you. Buying five dreadknights is...unusual cause people might not even allow you to use it as a normal dread ( far too large ) and there aren't many giant walkers around. Regarding a dreadnought replacement, the Contemptor did well and with a bit luck we get a nice chaos version of it too.

This is really well done! I never thought that the DK could look this badass. I especially like how the pilot's hands are matching the hands of the DK. That's really clever.

This being the internet, My Little Pony is a likely answer.

Vaktathi wrote:As to the Dreadknight itself, yeah, it's a bit silly, the baby-carry pilot looks off, and as a whole it's just something that really didn't seem to fit. GK's were always the guys fighting against the odds with their (relatively) measly marine bodies fighting gigantic daemons, not throwing out daemons equivalent things on their own. Having it as an MC when it's basically an Open Topped dreadnought certain doesn't help either.

That said, the inner cover art of the Dreadknight doesn't look too bad, where it has the pilots legs actually contained inside the Dreadknights legs with basically only the torso and arms exposed, that would have looked much better. The model itself is pretty and huge, but the pilot just makes it look silly.

There have been some excellent conversions though, closed cockpit ones in particular tend to look very cool.
My thoughts exactly.
I'm pondering about what could be done with a Dreadnought's hull.

I don't care what people do with modelling or things like that.
I usually find them pretty cool.
What i very much dislike is people asking if it fits with 'established fluff' and then getting annoyed because they can't have a GK whho turned to chaos and is now more powerful than Abbadon but is secretly working for the Emperor to be the commander of their Chaos Warband...
That's what annoys me...

As long as I live, I will never be annoyed by someone making a model some way in Warhammer 40k.

The ENTIRE GAME is based around making you army how you want to, to whine about that is to miss the point of the game. I congratulate you !

Love and tolerate people!

Indeed, I know my Luna General, or my "Firehawk Imperium, from the Galaxy next door" does not fit. But I think that's what makes them special!

Warhammer 40k, is and always will be about being as crazy and creative as possible.

To an extent. Everyone is free to decide what fits in their vision of 40K.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Sure do. And Washingmaschines on stunty-legs never did. I realize there were physcial limitations to work with pewter-models and no computer design in the 1980s, but they shoulda been gone the way of the Squats long ago.

Grey Knight Dreadknight is such a revelation, because it's for the first time done right what drew many of us into the hobby in the first place.. Bad-ass Space Marine War-Machine Walker. It ticks all those boxes that have been yearning for such a thing ever since little boys saw the Lifter in Aliens clobber the Queen. Not to mention that with its more rounded arm plates and shoulders, it actually fits the overall aesthetic of the Marines in ways the "boxes" never did.

Again, one of the best, if not the best GW model this Millenium. Period.

Yeeeh, Except that it is a real ugly model. Just look back over this thread. Not one person has said it looks good. Only the conversions of it look any good.

I must be reading a different thread than you guys. Just from the first handful of posts.

Vice_Grip wrote:If any thing, its a compliment.

You have such a cool model that we want to convert it to use in our armies.

Also, the very discussion thread was started on the topic of the models popularity for conversions before the vocal minority of hater-trolls derailed it. The question wasn't whether or not the unconversted model was ugly. The question was whether or not Grey Knight players who enjoy the Dreadknight would take offense to conversions on a fluff-basis.

The difference between a DK and a "washingmachinedread" is that the guy in the box has probably lost both arms, both legs, and a significant portion of his torso... and yet continued to live. The Dread sarcophagus is what keeps him alive, and keeps him slaying the foes of the Emperor century after century after century.

It's not a vehicle you just "hop in" and turn the key... also, the DK offers way too many exposed parts of the pilot to be viable. Every limb, as in the Orky one up there, and the pilot's head is exposed... a well-trained and properly-equipped sniper could end the DK threat from a few miles away.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
