Can units of multi wound models split their wounds like that? I thought you always had to remove whole models whenever possible.

If the nobz have different equipment they can, and diversified Nobz are the norm to take advantage of this.

Nobs can have 9 different pieces of equipment?

each nob can be equipped differently, and even if the nobs have 2 or three alike they will take wounds across seperate groups within the unit.

For example you could have:

Nob with PK and slugga,
Nob with PK and shoota
Nob with PK and shoota/skorcha
Nob with Big Choppa and slugga
Nob with Big Choppa and Shoota
Nob with Big Choppa and Shoota skorcha
Nob with shootarokkit and PK
Nob with Shoota rokkit and Big Choppa
Nob with Waagh banner and Slugga.

Nobs with twin-linked shootas also, or with waagh banner and pk/shoota etc....

Add in a bosspole to one or more as well...

Grey Hunter pack went through two BA dread, BA tactical squad, and then went on to hold an objective against advancing RAS.

I was on the receiving end of an ass-kicking that should not have happened.

I split off my Emperor's Champion from his crusader squad to take out some kroot camping on an objective. There were only 3 left as I had trimmed them down. The crusaders went after a hammerhead, I think, with their powerfist.

The EC charges in and misses his to-hits and/or wounds on all 4 attacks. Even with the Accept Any Challenge vow, needing 3's to hit and his Strength 6 attacks. The kroot do 2 wounds back. I roll snake eyes for my articifer armor saves. Kroot win.

I had to hang my head in shame.

you can also add in ammo runts, and the mandatory waaggghh banner for even more diversification. and alot of those upgrades are 1-5 pts

I saw a squad of firewarriors get charged by a Bloodletter back in 4th. The last firewarrior killed the thing.

I also had a unit of Devastators in one game kill three landraiders, a chimera, a leman russ, and an Ironclad. (They were combat squaded.)

The worst thing that happened to me however was a Company Command Squad one of my friends was using. I got a direct hit with an Orbital Bombardment on first turn, roll 7 ones, I kill no one. His master of Ordinance proceeds to roll a direct hit every turn and mulches three tac squads, a rhino, and a Devastator squad along with my Captain and Command squad......

I was referring to the nobs, not the scarabs lol, the scarabs were in perfect health
They weren't completely diversified , but we may have just played that wrong

Gun Drone vs Deff Dread.

Dread runs to clean up a Kroot squad that was left at about one model holding an objective. Gun Drone zooms behind and fires, pen, explode. Gun Drone is hit by the explosion and wounded but manages to save.

During a recent skirmish, my Elysian Vet squad Grav-chuted in behind enemy lines. They did a decent job of shooting the first turn on the ground, but were wiped down to Bastonne and a demo-charge-wielding veteran. They passed leadership, the next turn they kamikazed the landraider and troops that had moved over. The demo charge almost wiped a tac squad and 3 lucky shotgun shells later the Veteran had a shiny new purity seal for wiping a space marine squad. They then proceeded to charge the landraider and meltabomb it to death. It exploded and both Bastonne and the Veteran made their saves. The next turn they got charged by a Chapter Master and were both insta-gibbed by his relic blade.

This same squad has been the subject of countless leadership checks to retreat from combat or shooting, but they have not once fallen back. They're so stubborn and foolishly brave that our gaming group has nicknamed them "the Polish squad" on account of a regular player who won't shut up about his Polish ancestry and Poles' bravery.

Back when necrons were still in 3rd ed. I played a 2500 point game against an eldar player. My deceiver turn 1 caused a unit of his snipers to flee the board, and immediately charged into a group of harliquins. Managed to take them out on his turn and got within range to then cause a unit of his scorpions to flee and assault into a unit of his wraithgaurd succesfully killing the whole unit by turn 3. My deciever managed to wipe out over 1100 points when the game was over and was still alive (with 2 wounds) by the end of the game at turn 7.

Emperor's Champion walks through 50 Guardsmen, a Russ and decapitated a Primaris Psyker. in return he took 1 wound
