Who got secondary and tertiary? Im assuming your opponent?
Nice job, and good job on tactics that game.
Also after counting it up. I had claimed the secondary if I needed it. 10-7 even though my units were damaged and messed up they were still alive. Here is a summary:
My units that died: Manticore, PCS, Inf Squad, Inf Squad, 2 vendetta's, CCS chimera 7 kp
Units that survived but were damaged: CCS was down to just the commander, CCS was down to one lone melta gunner, Vendetta was immobilized, Demo vets were beat up from fighting his flamer infantry squad, demolisher was immobilized, hydra had lost a weapon and one had been blown up.
So my army was just refusing to expire.
His units that died: 2 inf squad with flamers, CCS, CCS Chimera, Demolisher, valkyrie, vendetta, vet squad, vet chimera, special weapons squad. 10 kp
His units that were damaged: I think maybe his vendetta lost a lascannon... everything else was still functional so I definitely made every bit count.
As for calling the game he had every right to. I was being dominated as you see by how much damage my army had taken and he didnt believe I could get to his objectives and sitll hold my own which is something that was still very up in the air. I had to rush my vets from the left flank to the center and my vendetta coming in from reserves was crucial. Reserving the forces I did gave me the chance to win a game I probably should not have won. In retrospect though I should of reserved my manticore and all of the starting vehicles but then at the same time the manticore was key in my victory by contesting hte middle objective which made him direct a unit to it in the final turn. A unit that could of held my objective.

3 very tough battles so far. This just goes to show that no army is an auto-win against good opponents. Every fight is a struggle, which is a sign of a very competitive tournament when even guards are struggling. Looking forwards to reading the rest, especially your game against the newcrons.

That sisters of battle army looks awesome. What a cool display board!!
I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the large number of grey knight players, but they seem to be the growing larger and larger majority whenever people post pictures of GT armies or battle reports from the grand tournies. I hope that the rest of your games went as well as these ones and I'm really enjoying the battle reports. Keep it up.

The day of never-ending warhammer seems like it will never end. I present to you the last game of the first day. I will give you one guess on the match-up.
Round 4 opponent: Nate Haggard (I believe he was local he knew Spag and crew)
His Army: Imperial Guard (not again)
HQ:
CCS 2x plasma guns, Las Cannon in chimera
Primaris Psyker
Elite:
6 x Psyker Battle Squad in chimera
Guardman Marbo
Troops:
Infantry Platoon:
PCS with meltagun in chimera
Infantry Squad
Infantry Squad
Heavy weapons squad 3x lascannons
Vet squad with 2 x melta; 1 HF in chimera w/ hull HF
Vet squad with 2 x melta; 1 HF in chimera w/ hull HF
Vet squad with 2 x melta; 1 flamer; shotguns in chimera w/ hull HF
Fast Attack:
Hell Hound w/ hull MM
Vendetta
Vendetta
Heavy:
Leman Russ Demolisher w/ Hull LasCannon
Leman Russ Demolisher w/ Hull LasCannon
Deployment: Dawn of War
MISSION:
Primary- Kill points - Must win by 3 or more kill points
Secondary- Table Quarters - The player with the most victory points in each table quarter wins that table quarter. The player with the most table quarters wins.
Tertiary Objective- Seize Ground - 4 OBJ centered in each table quarter and 1 centered in the middle of the board.
Pre-game analysis: After the last battle against imperial guard I am less then thrilled to see me matched up with another imperial guard player. Let alone one with as many flame templates as my opponent has. If I so much as step outside of a vehicle I am dead. My target prioritization will focus on the vendetta's first, than the demolisher's, and finally the hellhound. These targets will vary by availability of course. I'd also like to kill off his heavy weapons squad if I get the chance to. I manage to win the first turn but with dawn of war that only does so much for you. I am starting this game mentally drained from the day. Unfortunately being so drained I had completely forgot about pictures until like turn 2 so bare with me on that.
As I am fighting IG again here is the fluff: With the heavy fighting with fellow imperial forces still fresh in the minds of the 56th Cpt Creed had doubled the amount of sentries. Upon waking one morning the sentries reported a sizable imperial force setting up to the 56th immediate 12 o' clock. Cpt Creed vox'ed the opposing imperial forces. "This is Cpt. Creed of the 56th Mechanized Infantry Division you are blocking our route north and we have a current mission that has us traveling north. The vox layed silent for a few moments until a familiar voice broke the silence, "This is your last warning the 56th is to surrender and turn over all munitions!" Cpt. Creed didnt even hesitate as he gave the signal to his command team. He knew what was coming and it finally made since why the last force opened up on them. This time they would be striking the first blow. The vendetta gunships took off scouting ahead. Cpt. Creed grabbed the vox, "Inquisitor I told you before my men will not be subjected to your "cleansing"! It saddens me that more men need die over one man's pride!" The inquisitor snapped back, "You and your men have been tainted and are now enemies of the Imperium. I do not comprehend why you needlessly throw away your own life for those of your men. The only logical reason is you yourself are tainted.... prepared to be exterminated!" Creed looked down as chills traveled down the young Cpt.'s back. The inquisition was not something one willingly traded blows with. He looked up to see all of his men standing at attention warranting a salute and he remember why it was all worth it. These men would charge into the warp itself if he just gave the order, their loyalty was unquestioned they had followed him on countless battle fields nearly always emerging victorious. Just because of one daemonic incursion that had been stopped by his division alone the inquisition couldnt believe they had held back the incursion and beloved further forces were in play. The shady inquisitor himself was one to be questioned. The Cpt saw the glare of an enemy tank in the distance and snapped back to the task at hand. He quickly saluted and started shouting orders. He grabbed the vox and gave the go ahead order for the vendetta's.
Deployment: I deploy my large infantry squad as one big mass in the center of my lines in the woods. This gave me a clear base of fire to either flank as the center was almost impassible. I elected to have everything roll on turn 1. My opponent did the same so it was gonna be a pretty straight forward fight. He rolls to seize and I see a few 6's poke up but it settles on a 2. I get first turn.
56th Mechanized Turn 1:
Everything rolls on. I turbo boost my vendetta's up the center and to the left flank. I am preparing to disembark and throw demo charges and melta into the enemies face.
Enemy IG Turn 1:
He moves on but nothing too special. He puts his hellhound on the far left flank which is safe behind tree's but a good deal away from my infantry platoon and the area I believe it could do the most damage. His vendetta's come on and take some shots at mine. He manages to immobilize my vendetta in the center.
56th Mechanized turn 2:
My demo vets jump out of the vendetta in the center and charge up to his vendetta and 10 melta bombs does the trick it explodes and kills a few. My CCS in the left vendetta gets out and shoots up his other vendetta and wreck it. I do some slight damage here or there and cripple him some. The 2nd demolisher is shaken.
Enemy IG turn 2:
He shoots into my demo vets and somehow they survive. He moves up his vets to the right flank and moves his hellhound up and shoots at the CCS on the left flank. I take a save on the commander instead of the last melta and somehow make my invul save. He manages to bring down my far right flank vendetta either this turn or turn 3.
56th Mechanized turn 3:
The demo vets push up to his psyker battle squad and explode that vehicle(these guys are in frenzy mode). My beat up CCS on the left flank runs up and stuns the hell hound. I manage to kill one of his heavy weapons teams but they stay. I manage to wreck his lead vehicle on the right flank.
Enemy Turn 3:
He tries to push up the right flank with his squads but with the lead vehicle blocking his way some it proves to be difficult. His psyker squad fires on my demo vets along with another squad in the back chimera. They manage to cut me down to just a few left and they finally flee.
Mid game analysis: It appears that I have done some fatal wounds to my opponent. I just need to deal the final blow. I am feeling pretty confident that I can wrap it up from here. Unfortunately I get a bit overconfident as my dice start to go cold. Never count all your eggs before they hatch.
56th Mechanized Turn 4:
I manage to finally wreck his hellhound on the left flank. I also manage to shoot his back heavy weapons team off the board finally. I move my vets up in front of his demolisher ready to finally remove it from the board. Except only one hits and only shakes it.
Enemy turn 4:
He rushes up and shoots at the demolisher and immobilizes it and stuns it. He places his guys out on the far right flank and kills off my PCS. He advances on the left flank to try to take out my vets that disembarked.
What was looking like a shoe in win is now closer to a pitched fight again.
56th Mechanized turn 5:
I snap out of my daze and start making all the right moves. I move chimera's to the middle to flame that squad. I take my CCS to the right flank to help flame there and my manticore finally comes in with a 3 blast barrage. My Infantry platoon advances to multi-charge whatever survives all the fire. At this point the final blow has been struck and we call the game.
Game Results:
IG: Win the Primary as opponent concedes because victory is unattainable.
Post-game analysis: I think had we played eachother earlier in the day this game might have been different. We both made a couple of mistakes I was just fortunate enough to capitalize more on those mistakes. Placing his demolisher and hellhound on the far left flank behind the tree's allowed me to negate what they could do. His army could do a lot of damage unfortunately he had to be close to inflict all that damage. With the superior long range fire power and a few well placed alpha strikes I was able to mitigate the damage he could do until it was too late. This game came as a huge relief as it was nearing 9 or 10 pm and I was functioning on 3 to 3 1/2 hours of sleep. I just wanted to go back to the hotel and pass out. It was a relief to survive the first day but I was saddened to find out Hulk lost as I was really looking forward to a rematch with him sometime during the tournament. Perhaps at adepticon .
Ending Fluff: After the bloody battle was finished Cpt Creed's men had cornered the inquisitor. The young captain walked up to see the inquisitor cursing, and rambling to himself. The commissar had his bolt pistol trained at the ready as the man had obviously gone mad. It turned to see Cpt Creed and started laughing uncontrollably but the laugh was unnatural and was steadily growing in pitch and tone. The surrounding guardsman started grabbing there ears and falling to the ground. The commissar unblinking put 3 bolter rounds into its chest and the laughing stopped but the figure just smiled evilly. Cpt. Creed spoke, "what the hell are you." It started striding towards the commander and began to charge forward but Commissar bellick had seen enough and drew his power sword and stepped in front of his Commander shearing the form in two and shot both pieces in the head for reassurance even though the figure finally layed to rest. He cleaned his sword and sheathed it and gave the Cpt. a slight nod before walking of belching orders to the lower enlisted. Cpt. Creed gave one last look at the mysterious form that had posed as an inquisitor before giving the order for his men to burn the remains. He wouldn't take any chances with things of that nature. With two of the fellow imperial guard forces ordered to the system tricked into fighting the 56th it was now quite possible that the 56th was the last imperial presence in the sector. A scary thought considering the amount of enemy ships that were spotted in the area.
I will try to get day two done this weekend but I have a staff ride Saturday and a team tournament Sunday so who knows. Hope you all enjoy.

Good job on this, I think you did well to bait him with the vets, looked like he split his force rather then denying one flank. I think you had him beat at range looking at lists though, If he had deployment and could get intimate with his flamers it would have been absurdly violent lol.

I was really surprised he split his forces the way he did. We was counting on the psykers taking out my vet squad and when they didnt it really placed him in a tough situation. That and having his vet chimera's in a file like formation lead to him blocking his own advance.
Smitty0305 wrote:yea those 4 game tourney days are actually pretty ruff. When the 4th game comes around alot of times I stop caring and just screw around.
At this point in the day if I had lost I would of been just having a relaxed game without a care in the world. If my opponent had just got off to a strong start I probably would of just thrown in the towel with the need for sleep overruling the want to finish the game.

Ya, I have been trying to work in the time to do the next one but with a 15+ min PPT due today and a portfolio and 2 case briefs due tomorrow I will be hard pressed to get this battle report done. Tack on i just received my RFO and it appears to have a few issues. Thinking I might be able to due round 5 on Wednesday.

12 Warriors, 156 pts
Heavy Support:
1 Annihilation Barge, 90 pts
1 Annihilation Barge, 90 pts
1 Annihilation Barge, 90 pts
Deployment: Pitched Battle
MISSION:
Primary- Table Quarters - The player with the most victory points in each table quarter wins that table quarter. The player with the most table quarters wins.
Secondary- Kill points - Must win by 3 or more kill points
Tertiary Objective- Seize Ground - 4 OBJ centered in each table quarter and 1 centered in the middle of the board.
He wins the roll to go first... but gives it to me....
Pre-game analysis: My opponent informs me that solar pulse only works for a gamer turn. That means he can make me suffer the effects of night fight while he is unaffected in that same game turn. Although night fighting doesnt sound fun I am just happy to see a necron player without imotekh. This also means he wont be able to seize on that crucial 4+. Although, I dont understand further why my opponent gives me first turn beyond getting the last moves and relying on the night fighting to keep him alive. The general plan is to mitigate the night fighting as much as possible. How is this accomplished you may ask? I have two words for you, "Alpha Strike!" Its an all or nothing strategy and I figure I made it this far its do or die.
Deployment:
His deployment is pretty self explanatory. On his far right flank an annihilation barge, one ghost arc, and a triarch stalker. The unit of 12 warriors deploys in the center with 1 overlord and 2 lords in it.
Manticore takes cover. Hydra's are on my far flank trying to use those firing lanes. Demolisher in the middle. My flamer vets in vendetta closest. The demo vets in the far vendetta and the CCS in the middle vendetta. Psykers relatively in the middle. Infantry platoon in the ruin.
I announce that I have scout moves and my opponent literally . He forgot about scout moves he says and he tries to seize and doesnt get it.
IG Turn 1: viewer discretion is advised(I feel bad for my opponent as this is the meanest alpha strike I have ever witnessed and it was done during night fight).
The PCS with flamers disembarks and runs up the squad in the ruins. I manage to take out enough for a panic check... the psykers weaken the resolve and this squad plus the characters flee's 3" but unfortunately is still close enough to my squad to continue fleeing the next turn off the board. The vendetta they were in moves back and search lights and fires into the near triarch stalker and explodes it. One of the ghost arc's gets shot and shaken.
The CCS disembarks and moves up. Instead of shooting the ghost arc it aims inbetween and shoots the other triarch stalker. The result is another explosion. The demo vets disembark and charge into the far ghost arc and the annihalation barge. 10 melta bombs do the damage and explode both vehicles.
On turn 1 alone I killed: 831 pts of the enemy and practically win the battle before it begins. My opponents army is tough though so he is still not out of the fight yet.
Necron Turn 1:
He charges in and takes out my Demo vets with his warriors.
He fires into the PCS but somehow they survive. His other overlord breaks off from his warriors at the top and charges my CCS in the middle of the board. Shooting does minimal damage but stuns a vendetta.
IG turn 2:
My shooting is night fight still so damage is minimal. His overlord finishs off most of the CCS and the commander flee's.
Necron Turn 2:
The overlord is leading from the front (sorry a little blurry).
His overlord smacks the demolisher and the vehicle explodes. His shooting see's my command squads ride get busted and of course they get pinned . My PCS gets dakka'd to oblivion.
IG turn 3:
MY Vets move up in the chimera and pop it open firing melta into the overlord. The overlord goes down and does not rise again. The far warrior squad gets dakka'ed off the board with my hydra flak tanks. WIth the night fighting gone and my opponent running out of ways to threaten me we call the game.
Victory: IG as opponent concede because victory is unattainable
Post-game analysis: I kind of felt bad for my opponent. Everything kind of went my way in this one. My dice were not necessarily hot or anything but when stuff was suppose to happen it did. Usually you can count on atleast 1 or 2 things that was suppose to happen to not happen. This game was the exception to that. My opponent admitted he goofed on his deployment by placing units in the center. He originally intended to deny a flank. Being able to scout up and disembark for a first turn strike can be devastating if it goes off. This was just one of those occasions I had the rocket to my opponents scissors. Had he gone first he might of been able to fight it back some but his main thing was armor 13 and I was probably the worst match-up he could of had. Had he played the tremor crons he probably would of won against them but as it is he got me. I now walk over to watch the slugfest that is Necrons vs GK's. Secretly rooting for Grey knights because imotekh can seriously win battles single handedly and is my nightmare match-up. Was hoping all those builds would hit an assault army like daemons or something. As it comes down though the GK player makes some last minute mistakes that could of gave him the upset but he falls to the necrons.
Final match-up: Imotekh Tremor Crons vs 56th Mechanized ID Imperial Guard
Hope you all enjoy the brief report. I will try to get the final one up this week. It should be as long as the others.

Great batrep! I can't wait to read the next one - lots of suspense.
When I looked at your opponent's army list I was wondering how could he give you a good game. I don't really see much in his list to deal with your mech but maybe I'm missing something - besides the Stalkers and Anni Barges I just don't see much happening for this Necron army. What did you see as the biggest threats? He went 4-0 the first day so I think he must be a good player. I'd love to hear your thoughts?
Great decision on your part to put the pedal to the metal on turn 1. It really paid off for you - as you said Night Fight didn't really have any effect at all countering your army. What are your thoughts on what could have happened if your opponent went first? He really seemed to have made a bad decision giving you the first turn.

LOL, I didn't think he would just pile up across from all your dettas.... Oh well, brain farts happen. He was going to have a tough fight with out making multiple goofs before the start ha ha.
I hope Imohtek didn't go nuts with his storm on you though I am sure he did. IG gets it bad from him because you have so many units he's guaranteed a few 6'd. Hopefully he doesn't nail the good stuff

The stalkers were definately the biggest threat in my opinion and were my highest priority target as they had the melta and gave the rest of his army the ability to re-roll to hit. The next highest target was the annihalation barge's. They could put out a lot of firepower and tesla to another vehicle. A shot at my flank could really hurt. In addition, his harbringers of destruction were a threat with there high strength shots. Other then that I felt I had the advantage in the match-up.
If my opponent had gone first he could of dictated where I deployed some and spread me out more. Instead I was allowed to dictate the deployment and I knew where he would be forced to deploy. I put a large amount of firepower to the left flank to make sure he came to the right and in front of my vendetta's to a degree. With a 24" scout move it is hard not to get the vendetta's where I need them. In hindsight I could see why he gave me first turn as primary was table quarters and he probably wanted to see what I was gonna do before forcing me into night fight. His plan would of work had I not scouted up the way I did to mitigate it. IMHO you should never.. ever let alpha strike armies have the first turn.

I pretty much forced him to deploy there as it appeared to be the safest place to deploy. My vendetta's are hard to hide from with a 24" scout move. Effectively they have a 38 1/2" threat bubble with demo vets, and up to a 50" threat bubble with the melta heavy CCS. WIth a 48": board and me starting up 12" that doesn't leave much room for them to hide.
As for Imohtek dont get me started. Lets just say the last part of my signature qoute about grey knights can also be applied to Imohtek necrons... remove opponent from play as he is unnecessary.

--Necron Lord (warscythe, resurrection orb, mind shackle scarabs)

Elite:
1 ctan (writhering worldscape, lore of fire)
7 x lychguard (hyperphase swords, dispersion shields
Troops:
5 warriors
5 warriors
5 immortals (gauss blasters)
Fast attack:
5 canoptek wraiths (1x particle caster, 2 x whip coils)
4 scarabs
5 scarabs
Heavy:
3 spyders (glood prism)
3 spyders
Deployment: Spearhead
MISSION:
Primary- Modified capture and control with 3 objectives (1 in the center and one in each deployment zone).
Secondary- Table Quarters - The player with the most victory points in each table quarter wins that table quarter. The player with the most table quarters wins.
Tertiary Objective- Kill points - Must win by 3 or more kill points
I Win the roll to go first but he can seize on a 4+.
Pre-game analysis: As you can see by the board above the table has a fair amount of terrain on it. Originally he tries to rule all hills as DT but this would make nearly the entire board DT which would grant him freedom of maneuvers and pretty much stop me from moving (period). We come to a better agreement on terrain and I set up most of my units on the board. My objective is to get imotekh to panic off the board as soon as possible. Though that itself would not stop the storm it would at least prevent him from getting his re-rolls to keep it going as well as get rid of one of the 3 troops he has. Another high priority target is his C'tan. If I can get rid of him I can get rid of the game changing 1 and 2 DT test. The army I am facing is my nightmare match-up. I was hoping such a list would ran into a dedicated assault army before it reached me. The ability to make the game night fight and then hit every unit in the opposing army can really win a game for some people. Its a shame that one character has the ability to nix an army. I just need to stay focused and worry about that primary mission of 3 objectives. I have the superior fire-power. When night fight ends I plan to unleash hell!.
Your all's Predictions?

Just glad to read you didn't let him get away with the terrain. Hills as difficult? come on now, but from my limited competitive play experience if you don't speak up you will kick yourself leter so kudos : D
IDK, it looks rough but you nailed it, I think you need to get the C'tan first personally though, and then focus on the mission and I think you can get it, it really depends on if you got lucky early (kept initiative, made terrain checks and spot light the taget) if those things didn't happen I would guess he would have you on your heals after his first storm rolls.
Can't wait, thanks for these awesome reports, you should do one for your next event Automatically Appended Next Post: Tomb King wrote:

I always played hills as difficult to climb and then open terrain for the flat sections. I can see playing them either way, most people want them to be terrain to grab a 4+ save on them in my experience, but Writhing Worldscape definitely makes that annoying.

Hans (or Norbu the Destroyer here on dakkadakka) has a very deceptive necron list. It doesn't appear to be strong in anything - hardly any shooting, not very scary assault units and only 15+3 very fragile troops, yet it is an example of a necron army based on synergy and, unfortunately, a lot of "tricks". Also, Hans is a very good player from what I can tell from his battle reports and tournament successes. What it will excel in is against mech- MSU lists like your IG here. It's all going to depend on his dice, especially for Immo's Lightning Storm, and how much you move on Turn 1. Although I already know the results, this game could be anyone's game.

Yeah, we sometimes play it like that as well. The slope being difficult to climb, but the flat surfaces of the hill being normal terrain. As long as you both were able to agree on it beforehand is all that really matters.

Great reports keep them coming. Good to see other IG players doing well.
How's the vets with demos and ccs in vendetta treating you? I been moving away from running squads in vendettas since they get shot first unless I get first turn for the alpha strike I give my squads a chimera and have them start in it.
