Bolt throwers are lousy against stanks. They are just one shot BS-based, even if they have multi-wounds.

Maneaters don't need poison, they already got Str5. Give them a GW and they can rip a stank apart per cost.

Steam tank cost the same as 4 maneaters with great weapons.
If man eaters charge, they can expect to dish out about 5 wounds.
If tank charges, it should do about 11 wounds.

The tank charging should wipe an equal point value of maneaters without much in return.
The man eaters charge should take about half off the tank, but the tank will still down a few man eaters in the following round.

So if you gear maneaters specifically for tank hunting, they do ok. If you show up with a non-taylored list, they do a lot worse.
If lists are being taylored, maneaters have other issues.

Bolt throwers suck, period, but that wasn't the point (as usual). They can at least threaten a Steam Tank now. Before, not so much.

I run my Maneaters with 2 GW regardless of what their special skills are. The Banner Bearer and the Musician get them as they can't be picked out. 8 St7 attacks is good against everything, even stinky Elves. The poison with GW just happens to remove that pesky step of rolling to wound.

We have moved away from the question, aka the Steam Tank in combat. Of course, it changed when the new book came out with new rules, too

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.
