Blizz allows a very liberal modding community for addons and the like, people make add ons to help folks track combat, warn them of incoming attacks, track threat etc.

Blizz reacts to that, increases difficulty to counter the addons, betters add ons are made etc, and eventually after periods of weird imbalances. They finally come to this middle ground which still equates to if you don't like using addons that much (ie myself) you are playing with one arm tied behind your back.

Addons should be a bonus, not mandatory, which for some fights it certainly feels that way.

Agreed, I dont like addons AT ALL. Not to mention its luck of the draw if you are downloading a virus or keylogger or not. And dont start with the "Download from this place its fantastic!" Ive looked into MANY MANY MANY!!! add ons and sites, and you can always find people that say "stay away from there, youll catch this"

How the hell are you getting viruses downloading addons? I've downloaded Recount, Skada Damage, Questhelper, multiple UI mods, DBM and Omen, multiple times with not a single virus.

I've never understood your problem with these viruses from addons, I don't think I know a single person in game who has ever gotten one.

Spoiler:
Stop blaming addons for your porno viruses!

WoW UI incorporates some basic addons like Scrolling combat text, debuffs and cast bars, the new map has been updated because you could get addons that did it before, now the with dungeon journal which tells you what a boss does and what loot he drops, these 'updates' to the WoW UI have come from addons that Blizzard have put in place. but alas we digress.

I loving the looks of the new pandaren mounts

I am tempted...oh so tempted.

But I was so disappointed with Cata. Don't get me wrong Cata was awesome for about 3 months, but it lost its spark. Not sure if it was me or the game (I am willing to admit it could be either).

I think a lot of folks thought that way osumicobio, they certainly have had more drop off with this expansion than previous ones.

The fact with MoP they are talking of having an equivilent of the Firelands questing hub area for lvl 90 characters at launch tells you, that they have realised a fair few people got to 85, found little to do and walked off before stuff came in as not all of us are interested in going straight to raiding or grinding Heroics in lower gear.

Adding stuff like the Vaniety pet battles (ie Pokemon rip off ) is also a big one.
As a Pet collector I have been following the Warcraft Pets info on that with interest and it seems the critters we can tame for pet battles will have gold Dragon portraits much like elite mobs.

Its certainly a make or break expansion for WoW, and although many can't seem to get past the pandas at the moment, I have a feeling in the long term MoP could be a turning point back in its favour.

Yeah I lost the will after the end of firelands.

If they get it right this time it will last until project titan or even after that.

Well will be able to check it first hand after work. Both Aurelia and myself just got Beta Invites.

Typically it happens with half an hour of me arriving at work, but by the time I get home in seven hours hopefully she will have downloaded it all for both our PC's.

With regards to Mists of Pandaria... I found this and was deeply amused:

http://www.wowwiki.com/Pandaren_(April_Fools)

Literally sapping up the dregs for race ideas then?

When I used to play, I thought Ogres might've been a potential neutral/horde race... Wouldn't surprise me if they turn up. Guess the Alliance is kind of exhausted, they've already had to resort to Furries.

One of the larger calls for Alliance is High Elves (ie those that haven't become Blood Elves.)

Ogres are requested a lot on the forums for the Horde, and I'd agree with those calls, Ogres and High Elves would actually be a good move imo in a future expansion.

Would give Horde back a feeling of the monsters united by need, and putting High Elves in the Alliance would answer the age old question did loads of folks switch to Horde just to play the pretty Elf race.

Other races mentioned a lot include Murlocs and tbh although I doubt I'd ever play one, it would quite funny to see them running around, although I seriously think it is unlikely.

Naga, mainly by Horde players, but I can't see it, seems to break against the current lore, and they are better used as foes for both factions, maybe a sub group like the Darkspear are to the rest of the Trolls.

I've also seen Furbolgs raised as a possible Alliance faction, brought in by the Night Elves, also seems unlikely to me.

My guess is with the number of expansions incoming, and with Pandarians in this next one, we won't see any new races until the second one after MoP at the very least, I would guess possibly two more races (one for each faction) would be the maximum will will see, so to me Ogres and possibly High Elves would be the mostly likely.

I'd have liked High Elves from a lore perspective, but I imagine they wouldn't escape ZOMGBLIZZARDJUSTACHEAPBLOODELFRESKIN accusations.

Naga? Lore wouldn't allow it in my opinion; the males are barely sentient.

Furbolgs are cool, but again, do they really want to reinforce Allies as 'the Furry Alliance!'?

The most radical change I can think of with regards to races is rebuilding the existing starter areas so that any race can pick a side Wouldn't that just make things fabulously confusing eh?

Edit: Forgot Murlocs, ehrm... well giant pandas may have already made me think this... but I am sure that even individuals more tolerant than me wouldn't be able to take the game seriously if that actually happened.

I actually agree with the Starter area Henners, or at least have some sort of viable questline, even if you had to pay £10 to activate it, that would allow your character regardless of race to switch to the other faction.

Would really shake things up, and on Roleplay realms, would open up lots of possabilities.

Hell, I'm still waiting for them to allow us to learn languages, we can have both factions on pvp servers now, does letting folks understand one another really kill the game.
At the very least, let my Draenei who hangs around with Night Elves constantly, and spends most of her time in Night Elf terriotry learn other Alliance languages, even if it costs like a 1000G to activate.

Although my main realm is Ghostlands, I do do some roleplay, and enjoy it over on Argent Dawn.

Earthern Ring and Argent Dawn seem to be the main two RP servers, most folks have abandoned the others to focus their efforts on those two.

I used to roleplay on Neverwinter Nights servers. When I tried it on WoW it was a cruel shock. Really annoyed me that it wasn't enforced at all on RP realms. But everyone's a paying customer, so what's Blizz gonna do?

A lot of people just seemed ignorant about it. I wonder if they were all just idiots who got assigned to the realm when they first rolled? Or maybe they didn't know what RP means?

I don't think most people on them have the slightest clue. I thought it might have been a good idea to have some sort of roleplay quiz when you join the realm and if you fail you get assigned to another one. That would filter out some of them.

Or maybe show information videos when you select a realm?

LOVE DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS AND PLAYER-DRIVEN STORY NARRATIVES? WANT TO COMMIT TO YOUR CHARACTER? THINK YOU COULD LIVE WITHOUT EVER TALKING OUT OF CHARACTER? THEN THIS REALM IS FOR YOU!

With an addendum of 'If you don't know what any of that means, role on a pvp realm you dumbass.'

Finally got in on Friday afternoon, played to level 9 so far, absolutely love the music and new style for Pandarian territory.

Without any sense of doubt I see it being my favourite place in the game after MoP launches.
Actually didn't opt for a Pandarian Monk, got a Hunter instead, while picked a Draenei to test out Monks and see how/where they have squeezed in Monk trainers for other Alliance races.

Sadly since yesterday, a bug that came down with the patch on Friday, has made all 'interact' based quests fail. So any objects you need to pick up from the floor aren't there atm, and any discussion with npc type quests also fail.

Have my main in the copy queue as well, so once the copy transfers onto the Beta servers I can have a look at the new high level zones.

Well congrats to you and yours for getting in the beta, I check my maibox daily to see if I get lucky

I also used to play on an RP server when I FIRST got into WoW, but it seemed that I was the only fether on in the whole server that understood what RP meant It got annoying being in character and people constantly asking "Why are you talking like a Troll?" When Im playing a fething troll!!

I seem to be having a problem with it - whenever I open the beta launcher, it starts downloading the updated tools, the loading bar hangs at about 3/4 full for a while, then it eventually crashes. Anyone know of a way to fix it? Other than the obvious "ask blizz."

I'm so disappointed, I want to play as a panda.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

My biggest problem with WoW was that it became far, far too easy. Both the enemies, and even the amount of help it gave you for quests. I had left the game for a couple of years and came back to try out Cataclysm - admittedly they had done a great job changing the setting, but I just shocked at how easily I was sailing through the game. A defensive dwarf warrior should not be able to get to level 20-something without dying even once!

I guess the intent was to get people racing through the ranks and then on to the end-game content (because of course, that's when the game starts, right?) But, one of my favourite ever memories of the game was having to band together with other dwarves to fight the elite ogres of Loch Modan. Having to really work hard to finish those quests. Removing 95% of the elite baddies just turned the first few months of gameplay with a new player into boring grind fest and race, and I think did a lot to destroy the player interaction and communities.
