Deadlysquirrel, I could argue the same thing about *domesticated* dingoes over here. They are still responsible for about half the dog attacks in Australia, AND there's the case of the *dingo took my baby* trial.

Even a domesticated animal is still a wild animal at heart and given the fact that most pit-bull owners will use their dog as a guard dog, means essentially that they will ineviablely mistreat and mistrain their dog regardless.

Again though, the mistreatment of the dog is the issue and not the dog itself.

Dog training works because you put yourself about the dog in the pack. Tigers have no pack, so you aren't above them and they won't obey you.

The point is that blaming mistreatment is a red herring. Pit bulls are naturally more aggressive than most other dogs, arguing that, if treated in a certain way, that tendency can be compensated for doesn't change the initial fact.

As far as pitbull agression. I have been around pits that are as passive as basset hounds. However I agree with dogma in that the breed has a record of bred-in aggressive traits. Not sure if you can dog whisper that out of all pits.. Not expert though.

Saw a video of this today. What gets me is not the viscous dog but how police officers dont look out for each other. While the dog had one officer by the arm another climbed onto a wall then when he could climbed down and wal;ked away to the other side of the road. he didnt run to go and get something to help, he just walked as in: 'I'm alright jack, its someone elses problem'. While his comrade was screaming for help.

I am more concerned what this says about todays policing than irresponsible dog owners,

Deadlysquirrel, even if you treated a pit-bull like royalty, that INNATE il-temperedness and aggression is still there. The pit-bull is is now actually a restricted breed over here in Australia (you need a license AND appropriate training) to own any of the pit-bull or terrier breeds, even if you are in a high crime area.

German Shepherds are less prone to attack without provocation, and thats the problem with the pit-bull breed. They are bred to be vicious. Thats their stock in the breed. All dogs are bred with a use in mind originally.

Yes, treatment does make a difference in a dog's life, BUT not as much as breeding does. The traits of a dog will be passed on genetically. Thats how evolution works, and thus how dog breeds are shown to be different.

I think we're slightly off topic here, going into nurture vs nature. So back on topic:

Comments made in other threads had led me to belive that TBone was seriously lacking in the teeth department.

I had always thought that a Tbone attack went thusly

K-9 squad is different from a supposedly domesticated pet. What about that pitbull advocate who got killed by her pit? (Wasn't she pregnant as well?) Was that a terribly trained dog?

I don't listen to the media. I examine information on the breed itself and I see an in-bred aggressive streak coupled with a very dangerous body.

It's a fact that pitbulls are one of the most powerfully built dog breeds and that they are more than capable of severely mauling and killing an adult male. There are multiple breeds that are not remotely as physically powerful, why have a [it even IF it can be trained to a high degree? The fact it can be trained to be obediant is irrelevant, just as the fact you can train a lion to jump through a hoop or something similarly absurd is irrelevant. Both animals are still dangerous and it requires a high degree of training to reduce that danger. There are far too many pitbulls that receive poor training and are a threat to humans, both those in and outside its 'family'.

What you have to watch for is Rodney. While TBone is distracting you, Rodney is sneaking up behind you (seriously) to give your ankle a righteous nipping. If its not Rodney it will be me. I'm a biter.

If you want companionship, weenies are there for you, in the backwards ways they show it. If you want a tough dog, weenies will do that too, but they never actually get past the barking phase without good reason. If you want a couple laughs, all you have to do is watch them walk, or watch their tongues hang out of their mouth when they get back from a walk.

Also, considering getting a pack of golden weenies when I have a yard for them. Five weenies in all, two girls, three boys. Roger, Shaggy, Megatron, Hermione and Big Bertha
