Awesome!

If I am being honest with myself I would probably buy a house and invite my best friends to live there, I would also make sure that my great grandparents and grandparents' bills and stuff were all paid so they could buy things they liked, probably do this for most of my family actually... then I would buy the materials needed to build my own WWII U-boat.Then I would probably save the rest for living an eccentric life as the man who lives in a U-boat for a few months with my friends as crew.

Plans.. Ohh I have PLAN'S if I win....... But you have to take a couple of things into consideration... First, do you take the cash option or the yearly payout option? I would take the cash. So that 540 mill imediatly drops to 270 mill, since they take a 50% penalty for the cash option. Then you have to pay your Taxes on this new found wealth. Lottery winning count as gambeling winnings to the IRS so now you have to subtract almost 40% (in reality I thik its 37.6 % but 40% is a good round number to work from). So now you are left with 162 mil. Some states also have income tax so you will get hit agin. Now we are down to around 97 mill. Thats still a butload of cash though. The first thing I would do is divide that in half so now I have 2 chunks of 48.5 mill. One half goes into the bank to to grow/work, to take care of me and my family. The other 48.5 mill.. well I have a peice of property already, but I would add to it. I have a decent house but I would do some renovations. The I would build a castle.... A pretty big castle... Here let me show you....
www.castlemagic.com
Go look at the Jousting Castle...That would be the base building.. I would add to it... From my calculations I could build almost exactly what I want for about 25-30 Mill. Leaving me with around 20 mill to play with. I have some charitys I would give to. some people I would make sure get a boost. Then I would sit back and just enjoy...

Ohh and start saving all my fingernail clippings and never shave or get a haircut agin.... ever......

Seriously though, a lot of my focus would be in setting up trusts, etc and ensuring my family is taken care of for generations. My wife and I are fiscally conservative people...while we'd certainly spend money, we wouldn't do stupid stuff like buying yachts, jet planes, or houses all over the world. Maybe we'd splurge on a beach house in Delaware with a slip for a boat that the family could enjoy. But wealth preservation (and keeping *some* level of normalcy for our kids) would be the name of the game. Certain charities would get a check, and we might make some gifts to our alma maters. Boring stuff.

I would, however, be tempted to use a half mil to hire a bunch of the best mini sculptors as freelancers to work up new 28mm miniature lines, including Space Slann and Genestealer Cults. All just for me.

I would buy a downtown parking lot in a major metropolitan area.

Then I would build a gas station right across from the parking lot. I would have the lowest gas prices in town; my gas station would operate at break-even, undercutting all of my competition.

THEN I would buy enough fully pimped out Escalades to fill the parking lot (~50), with a 20 foot high razorwire chain link fence and 24/7 on-site security. The escalades would be mounted on rollers so that each one could be run non-stop at roughly 60 mph.

Then I would not even live in that city.

It would be the ultimate expression of nihilistic disdain; every time someone stopped at my gas station to buy gas they would have to look at my fleet of gas guzzling escalades, each burning through 3 gallons of fuel per hour 24/7. And yet, they would! They would do so because I have the cheapest gas in town! Ah-haHAHAHAHA

I take my hat off to you sir.

That is positively Bondian levels of villainy.

I would do a bunch of responsible stuff, like hire a lawyer, set-up some trusts, put stuff in investments, etc. Basically make sure I could lve comfortably off the interst forever, and never touch the principle.

If I had enough left over, I would consider starting a ThinkTank like the RAND Corporation.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

$539M

Set myself and my family up for life with the 'spare change': $9M
Set up long term business investments for myself and family: $30M

Start a manned space program, separating all assets for legal reasons: $500M
- Set up escrow for salaries and pensions. $250M
- Set up fund for materials. $50M
- Set up fund for tooling. $100M
- Set up fund for operations. $100M

Recruiting is key. Get the right people and this could go far. Get the wrong people and it goes nowhere.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
