wether you enjoy the game or not... at the end of the day...... nearly all video games are lacking in ideas, are much to linear or have terrible background stories etc...
Even major award winning titles are pretty lame.
It simply shows the state of video games in general. They are throw away products.. They design them to be this way.
I havent played a fantastic video game in years... Ive played good ones.... but not fantastic...
very true most video games are total crap these days.
the last good one i played was dragon age origins on PC. still waiting for something good.. diablo 3 will be the next thing actually worth playing.
skyrim was a boring piece of junk. no depth- like an all you can eat buffet except the food is bland and boring. maybe if i was 14 i might enjoy it.
Ah, try out Crusader Kings. If you like Game of Thrones and Excel ( Paradox actualy got better in that regard ) then you will finaly once again have the pleasure of playing a good game

It's Yahtzee, take everything he says with a pinch of salt. He's a comedian and a very funny one at that. He's trying to make people laugh. It's just that week 40k-ers were his target, the week after he'll migrate onto another hate figure.

Actually, Yahtzee has a very real dislike of 40k, since he's mocked it quite a few times over his videos/articles. However, it's still ridiculous getting in a tissy over him not liking it, especially considering that 40k really isn't a setting for everyone. It's no different than when some of us mock Twilight or My Little Pony (inb4 someone says "but those are actually bad").

To be fair no game is perfect. Espeacially videogames since some have to sacrifice say graphics for better AI. Most are made on ridiculous time schedules. Though some games like starcraft 2 seemed to be fighting with itself because it seemed Blizzard was hesitant to release a game that might compete with their own product like WoW.
I pay little heed to game reviewers since they can be easily wowed by graphics or michael bay explosions. I can't tell you how many games I have played that had poor collision, terrible map graphics since they just replicated painted textures. You either have to focus on graphics and story or try to make make huge open ended enviroments where npcs tend to give generic statements. There is give and take.
Also thinking of the golden years of games seems funny becuse during the "old" days games didnt even allow open ended stories till games like the original Shin Megami Tensei.

First off he didn't need to, listen to a few of his vid's where despite the thing going on, he'll bash nintendo to hell and back, mocks their fans over anyone else, mock the games, and mock anyone who plays them. Yet has yet to take as many potshots to the Xbox, the PC, or the Playstation.
The only games he reviews fairly in his hate are sandbox games, or puzzle games, he has a bias against shooters (though to be fair he only hates on Modern Warfare clones to much), nintendo, JRPGS, and various things.

His whole rant just reeks of the burning generic rage he claims Space Marines should show (because the Gears guys did, as if that's some awesome yardstick of writing quality), simply because he hasn't got a clue about what he's trying to criticise.

Let's see what some Chapters are known for other than war:
1) Imperial Fists - skilled engineers
2) Blood Angels - artists
3) Iron Hands - scientists and engineers
4) Ultramarines - administrators and organizers
5) Salamanders - artisans
If we include pre-Heresy Legions:
1) Thousands Sons - scholars
2) Word Bearers - educators
3) Emperor's Children - artists
And besides, like money's a problem for the Imperium at large. The Administratum can juggle funds and resources out of nothing, so to
speak, in spite of/or because of it's massive bureaucracy. Not to mention capitalism isn't really a big thing in the Imperium. The Ecclesiarchy resembles medieval catholicism, so it's no surprise capitalism is in chains, not to mention the heavy regimentation, control, and standardization of the Imperium, which would effectively kill capitalist trends.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.
'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.' |

I could have told you that before the game came out... But I enjoyed Firewarrior and I enjoyed Space Marine. I suffered no delusions that these games exaggerated the crap out of the main character, but the appeal was watching the 40k universe come to life.
ALL shooters are monotonous. Sorry, they just are. If you're interested in the story, you'll keep grinding.
Personally I'd love to see a 40k game about anything except SMs. I'm praying that Dark Millennium allows us to play all 8 factions (Imperium, Chaos, Orks, Tau, Necrons, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tyranids) But I have a sinking feeling it's just going to be the stale, overdone Orks/ SMs/Chaos/Eldar.

I don't like it when reviews base their opinions on factual errors, as Yahtzee has done here. Other than that I don't mind what he has to say, I just wish he'd do a bit more research.

It wouldn't really be Yahtzee if he used facts. He's not really a serious reviewer, it's more of a comedy column. He's not bitter, he does the same thing to every game he reviews, taking things out of context and making the background story sound stupid.
Read his stuff for gaks and giggles, then actually play a demo of the game to decide whether it's good, is what I do.
Not that I put much stock in modern game reviews anyway, most of them just read like marketing blurbs or terrible teen blogs. At least Yahtzee writes something that's amusing.

There can't "only" be war, don't be stupid. People would have to stop and go to the lavatory at some point.
But being the first to do something doesn't necessarily make you good at it. I could be the first person to peel off a child's face, roll it into a tube and work it into my cockhole, but no-one's going to call me the standard by which all future supply teachers should be judged.
Admit it you lol'ed as well.
Beyond that. meh...
I mean OH NO, someone dislikes the convuleted confused and contridictary background of 40k.
