Because they are using all the other armies as a test for finecast before they release their main money maker in finecast.....

They do not want to be trading back defective finecast on their most popular models...

o0o i've always wanted Elspeth and her dragon, its a sick looking model. One question is the dragon the same Carmine dragon you can buy separately or did they rework it to make the side saddle fit better?

@OP I can understand you wanting the models for your army, but honestly after working with this stuff it's not worth it. Lots of headache's for little gain overall IMHO. Troll ebay looking for the metal versions, check out the swap shop, Bartertown etc etc you will thank yourself when you are on your 8th replacement and it STILL HAS THE SAME FLAWS as the first one. Of course if you like playing the lottery go buy a powerball ticket, better odds I would think of wining.

In my experience, metal is still better. To me it is much easier to file down a few casting nipples on a metal model than having to ADD material to fine detail and oddly angled areas of a model!

It would be absolutely awesome though if they did offer a plastic box that you could use (similar to the commander box) to make several variations of chaplains and/or librarians. Also a plastic kit for a captain/chapter master in terminator armor would be great as well.

I still think the chaplain models are the BEST in the GW line. The the Terminator Chaplain is simply amazing. I need to get another one before he goes to finecast.

Try ordering him online, if you spend 50 bucks you get it shipped for free from GW. From the few online distributors I've used in the past they cannot get pewter anymore, only Finecast, so I had to order Sanguinor, Vulkan, and Shrike directly from GW.

I also have a painted and unpainted pewter Telion...if you were interested.

Yes, in reading the preview of the OP I was wary of an April fool's joke here... I'd certainly rather get the metals off ebay, but I know some people would rather avoid that. To me, it's the lesser of two evils, though.

A metal model off ebay is far less work than calling customer service to get a replacement, maybe even more than once. Plus, with pewter models, a bath in simple green and a tooth-brushing and they might as well have just come out of the package. Except cheaper.

I dunno, (I'm gonna get accused again, probably) Finecast is ok. I hate metal, and there is nothing worse than a figure case that weighs a tonne. I bet most of the problems people get, barring miscasts, are down to the user not being used to the medium. I had the same problem when I started using FW kits, but what the hey I did a little research and now all is fine. I'm alright, Jack, as I still haven't had any miscasts or bubbles in innapropriate places on my purchases

If the OP wants finecast then its their chioce, and TBH I'm in the same camp because conversion and general cleaning is so much easier. As for stripping, well Fairy power spray does fine on FW resin and if there is the odd bit of undercoat left on it is normally not visible after re-undercoating. I personally haven't stripped a finecast yet, but I can't see it being too far removed from FW stuff.

I'm getting bored of the new WhineSeer that Dakka is turning into, frank discussion is fine but the record player is starting to sound broken

Finecast isn't the same formula as FW resin. I can't find the thread at the moment, but a couple of people have already done some investigation into stripping Finecast with Fairy Power Spray and Dettol/Simple Green. It does *something* to the material and makes it all bendy and pliable and doesn't re-cure. Early indications would seem to show that Finecast can't be stripped easily, certainly not with the traditional methods used on plastic. Which is a shame. Whether or not this continues to be the case will become apparent in the coming months when more people start to try and strip Ebay Finecast purchases.

I dont think it would be right to say you cannot get them, what you really mean is that you cannot get them from GW, which is fair enough.
Personally i only go to GW when i can not get them elsewhere.

Some time ago there were whisper's of a plastic kit that would make a Captain/Chaplain/Librarian in Terminator armour. Kind of like the BA Dreadnought kit makes Furioso/Death Co./Librarian. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing wasn't done for the power armoured variants.
