Contact some of the local pawn shops. They prolly won't loan on it but they may at least have footage of the jerk.

Zathras wrote:Hate to say it but I don't think those cases were stolen because they had miniatures in them. The thief saw "unmarked aluminum cases" and took them thinking there might be something more valuable (to them) than well painted minis and other gaming paraphanalia. It's unfortunant but I believe your minis and other item are probably on the way to the local landfill as garbage.

As sad as it is...I find myself agreeing with Zathras. It's one of the reasons I go out of my way to warn people off of unmarked aluminum cases/gun cases and shell out extra for something from a company like Sabol or the like.

Unmarked aluminum cases make people think "jackpot". Gun cases are another popular target.

Positive thinking though, hopefully you get your stuff back.

I'm going to go with this too.

I would even go so far as to looking in dumpsters in the local area. The chances are these were probably taken by some chanced walking past. I would bet they would go to the nearest back alley to see what they got, seen it was toys and ditched it.

You could get lucky.

Best of luck sorting this one out mate.

Likewise.

A friend of mine had one of the old GW cases stolen from our house a few years back (in addition to a set of keys and a jar of coffee. Go figure ). We only found out about this when one of the regulars came into the local GW with one of his BB models having said he found it lying on the street. The thief had obviously thought it was a laptop or something, opened it up and chucked the models all over the road in frustration.

Sarpedon,

You still havent answered my question of where your gaming haunts are, where you are located, etc.

This info is key in helping find them.

Sorry man I meant to address that... I am actually considerably farther north up in the Fargo/Moorhead area. i do occasionally get down to cities for bigger games, but most of my action is in a 30 mile radius of here.

We do a get a couple regular guys up here for tourneys from down there, and a select few of us head down for games.

I'm going to speak from some experience here.
I had an acquaintance when I was a kid who was a thief, so I know that mindset.
You aren't going to find this stuff locally, because this person has moved it out of town or out of state.
You aren't going to see it in the community because either the guy doesn't know crap about the models and wouldn't know to try and sell them to the community, or he DOES know the models and isn't going to risk exposing himself to the community.
Assuming this isn't some child who saw an opportunity, and an actual thief.
Your best bets are going to be Ebay and Craigslist (Nationally).
I'm going to hazard a guess though, and say that these are either in the trash, or the person plans on keeping them and is pretty far away by now.
Also, not to sound mean, but why in the world would you leave something that valuable sitting in a car?

I had just gotten back from a full day of gaming and was pretty beat. I locked my car, and I live in a very, very, very low crime area. We live in a township outside of a small metro area. This is still the kind of place you can leave your doors unlocked. I am originally from Minneapolis and I know a lot about security and theft. I will admit I should have taken them inside, but I planned on playing the following morning so I figured they would be fine where they were. They had been on numerous times before. From now on they come inside no matter what. Hindsight is 20/20.

I share your pessimism, but on the same note people are stupid, and I think this was more than likely a kid or a couple of kids, not a pro. I think odds are they got junked, but maybe not. I am willing to invest time into their safe return no matter how unlikely that is. Hence, my post on here, my daily scouring of eBay and Craigslist, as well as constant contact with my FLGS and local gaming community. I filed a detailed police report with images of all the stolen items with sizes. I also gave this info to all the local pawn shops. I treat this with the same optimism i give the Vikings NFL team. Expect the worst but hope for the best, because hell occasionally you get surprised. I also do appreciate everyone's input in this matter. Dakka and it's member's have yet to disappoint me.

If this is true.... It may well be the case that any local thieves/scumbags are known to your local police. It follows that there is probably only a few routes out of your place of residence for stolen goods/ditching of unwanted goods.

Maybe buy your local cop/plod/sheriff a cup of coffee and see whrer that leads?

P.s. Your stuff looks amazing! I hope the vicarious plaudits of someone on the other side of the world helps to ameliorate your loss; as I'm sure whatever you do to replace it will look even better

Fething Tzeentch up to no good again!!!!

Hope you find your stuff mate.

You said you locked your car, for them to break into te car I guarantee you they thought it was something more financially valuable a camera or laptop etc.

Really sucks because you put so much time into these just to have them dissappear like that. :/
