Usually I have to focus completely on what I'm doing, usually achieved by noise cancelling headphones and some random rock track to mute out all remaining sound, that way its just me and whatever model I'm butchering and then painting. However should I get painted block at any point in the process I'll browse various galleries for other peoples models until it brings some kind of inspiration back to me.

I either listen to some metal/screamo or have a TV series on like BSG or Beast Wars (childhood fave) or a film I've seen a hundred times.
Tbh though, having a show on does distract me, and as my room is so small, my TV is pretty much ON MY LAP X_X'

So yeah, music is probably best for me.

it gets easier when they're older trust me. the next fun evolution is them wanting to learn, which is equally frustrating, but in a good way

I bought them the biggest nerf guns that look like bolters. Now to talk my wife into letting me have the Space wolf army she wanted...and hasn't even taken out of their boxes yet, So frustrating to know there is a entire 2k Thunderwolf army downstairs..and i cant touch it

Better than buying Lizardmen that you're in the middle of converting into orks... and then have her never play them and refuse to let you use them or at least finish them

I watch TV or DVDs. Hulu is usually pretty good too. Anything with a plot that you can follow without really looking at the screen. In particular:
Fringe
Lost
X Files
House
Grimm

Also, mild amounts of alcohol is useful, but don't get sloshed!

My wife left her entire tyranid army in the car, everything warped. going to take some serious effort and money to repair them. (no sense in throwing them out) if they're not fixeable, they just became terrain.

oh did I mention the brand new Forgeworld Winged Scythed Hive Tyrant my wife bought 6 years ago (gen 2 nids) that's still in its box and original packaging? yea....

so really I listen to the whining and moaning knowing I have models to build and play with and no ones gonna do it.... thats what I listen to.

Melted tyranids? Depending on how melted maybe they'll look more Tyranidy But that really sucks man, so much money melted... I bet you could make a cool diorama with someone hitting it with a melta or flamethrower and showing the Nid bein' burned up. Maybe?

I listen to radio plays or music, usually. Recently I've been listening to the Dr Whooves podcasts.
I actually tend to closely associate the podcasts I listen to with the painting I was doing at the time, so my Boyz Mob Nob's Power Klaw reminds me of the first episode of Dr Whooves.

I usually listen to music, drink a cold beer and ignore my cat. Something about me painting and modeling pisses him off to no end. He has been the cause of many repainting of models when he has jumped on my lap without my consent.

I have actually painted well playing other table top games before. Some of my better models were painted over a session of D&D. But mostly Its just Tv. Without something else to watch waiting for glue to dry sucks.

I have done this before as well when reading and listening to music. On a few occasions when rereading a book I hear the music I was listening.

There are electronics that will make you sing on key (pitch correction), also known as AutoTune, but not the crappy kind like you hear from TPain etc. Buy one of the units and plug a mic in through it and you can sing to yourself in tune! Even if you aren't really. The ULTIMATE shower effect
