Subject: What do you do while you paint or convert minis?
So Ive caught my wind in my ork sails again and im converting and painting while its still there. I was wonder what everyone else does while they paint or convert their minis?
I personally listen to music usually Heavy Metal (or Dubstep), watch YouTube, or Look at some minis to see how other people painted them.

Mostly involves my laptop in some way.
Either have South Park running, music (something metal, video game music etc to simulate something for building a large war machine, like the Factory music from a game called Einhander)
or something else like a full movie on my DVD player. amoung other things.

As I just started my first mini army ever (sisters!) I find I get tunnel vision when working (*failing) on my test minis, but "white noise" helps so music or a movie more recently an xcom LP.

Usually I listen to music while I'm painting or converting. Sometimes I will have a film or something on but it would be one I've seen many times so I'm not missing something I've not seen. I have to have some background noise of some kind, I find I cant work as well when it's too quiet.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

I have some sort of TV show playing in the background while I paint. Music is ok for short periods but anything more than 20 minutes I need a show.

I've found that if I just plop in my chair at my work area/ mess of a table and dont have anything around me ill go from painting and get bored and think about different ideas for models, like now im working on a zomb boy, ive got 5 so far, a grot and and a warboss to paint.

I almost always have music playing when I'm at the workbench. I find that I enjoy music whether I'm listening intently or not, whereas with shows/movies, if I'm not watching or at least paying close attention to the dialogue, the point is pretty much lost. My girlfriend does the whole "play familiar shows in the background" thing, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

I just turn on Pandora when I Paint/Model. I do sometimes wish I had a set up with a television to watch shows/movies but am glad I don't so I get stuff done.

Audiobooks- as I can stare at my minis and absorb the story at the same time. Finished the entire 'Hitchhiker's Guide' series, the Hobbit, and am making my way through 'The Navy Lark'. May look at purchasing 'Thorn & Talon'.

Cricket is great..... not much happens for long stretches of the game allowing me to listen to stories* from the commentators and occasionally look up when something does happen.
*Seriously... all those guys do is reminisce about their touring days back in the 70's/80's usually involving heavy drinking on a caribbean island....

No seriously. Me and the better half have quite a good arrangement within our poky one bed flat. I have my desk with my painting station and xbox etc in one corner of the living room so I can enjoy my interests while the Mrs can still watch TV or whatever else she wish's to do to fill her time. As a result I've usually got Criminal Minds, or Without a trace going on in the background while I'm painting away.
This works for us as I can spend 2/3 hours on an evening painting after work and still see or speak with the Mrs. Keeps her happy and keeps me painting. Win/win.

I think the best thing you can do is list to something educational. It makes for good white noise and you might learn something! NPR has some really good streaming options (KPCC Los Angeles is what I listen to as I found they have a very good iPhone app, as I found out when I lived in LA briefly) or BBC, CNN etc if you can get it. Just not FOX news...
If you aren't down for that I usually watch TV shows and movies or will run past ("American") football games in the background. A little more active than what the above poster said about Cricket and fewer stories of debauchery, but still good stuff. Or you could watch soccer. If you're, ya know... not a true Uhmercan.

if the gf is home, I tend to stream music off itunes (electronic of some flavor, generally) to drown out the sound of the tv; I can't focus on anything when the tv's going if she's not around, I will sometimes play music but mostly I just enjoy the silence :p

One word. Netflix, Its the best thing you can buy next to green stuff and paint. Most times i find a tv series that i like and listen to it while i work. Best thing about it is. While working if i am bored with what i am doing i tend to stop. It makes it so i just don't rush through a paint job.
