Other than tournament or leagues that allow FW units. Which is actually why I brought this question up as our l venue is running a league and allowing the use of 40k stamped units from FW and a player has chosen to pull out of the league because of it being allowed in 1000 and 1250 pt rounds.

Considering the only cheap units are Tau that I can recall and the Tau need the love, I don't see why some one would be upset about the opponent over spending on a FW unit in low points games. It just means he will have less points to spend elsewhere.

I recently went to a 1K tournament and someone actually brought an LR Achilles there.

How'd it do? Not sure, but I know I came in 1st. The Achilles player actually lost to tyranids on the table right next to mine so I didn't get a chance to play against it. I would have loved to have faced it....and kill it.

Not in official GW,tournaments, but since their are no GW tournaments that point is moot.

It basically depends on the TO. And usually as long as people don't object (either they don't mind or don't know), TO may allow it as he did in that tourney.

I sincerly hope that GW puts a big bold statement: "FORGEWORLD IS AS OFFICIAL AS ANY CODEX" is the 6th ed rulebook. I just can't wrap my head around them not doing that, and they don't even allow FW in the (very few) tourneys they hold themselves. FW is GW, why do you shoot your own foot GW?

FW is now allowed (with some restrictions) in all major tourneys in Norway. It has worked very well so far, to my knowlegde, no armies with FW items have actually won any of those tourneys yet. Nothing FW makes comes close to longfangs, psyflemen, rad/psych nades etc. Some choices are competitive, some are decent and lots are really bad.

At least FW actually update their rules and listen to the playerbase.

This is a point I try to make often.

Most people see the foreign/exotic aspect of the FW units as an easy scapegoat to blame if they have trouble with them. The fact that someone decided to pull out really smells like someone who was uncomfortable playing against something he just didn't know about... or simply just bought into the anti FW bias. I remember, several years ago, someone who refused to play on maps he didn't know - simply because he couldn't play competitively on them.

Took my Grot Tanks to a tournament, one guy (who won a game against me) and another (who lost a game against me) complained that they were OP... but they had the same wargear options as my kanz, and were even weaker (av10). Not to mention Nearly 50% more expensive than a full squadron of kanz to compensate for the extra number of shots.

FW do, as has been stated, release test rules, hear feedback, and adjust - which is pretty great.

The Landraider Achilles, as an Ork player, will be dealt in the same way as usual - it's only that -1 that's going to be a big issue. Orks have no Melta nor Lance ;P

As a Dark Eldar player, the Achilles merely vindicates my fielding of Haywire Blasters.

I think the general issue is that people can't really call out a unit's viability until they've played with and/or against it several times.
