You need a week long class and a 3-day waiting period to buy a paintball gun?

That is absolutely absurd. FYI.

NO.

They are a good way to feel a firearm if there's something at the local stores you don't have. They are not good deals pricewise otherwise.

stores, Bud's, Guntrader, those are good deals.

In the way way back gun shows were THE place to buy guns. The Internet is largely to blame for gunshot prices having become retail or higher. Unless you REALLY know what you are looking for, can check it's condition, and know how much you SHOULD pay: don't buy guns at shows.
SIMETIMES you can buy guns off forums you trust...just never trust barfcom,ar-15.com, or glock talk.

What, is AR15.com bad or something? Seems like a cozy little place, although I don't actually read the posts, just look at pictures, lol.

I'm sure there'll be lots of scammers on any large forum though. Anyway, since I really haven't, you know, gotten my hands around any firearms (so to speak), I'll leave my cash at home if I go to one

As with most forums there is a solid core of knowledge with a few gaks. Except on Ar15.com the gaks abound.

Yea gun shows, are good for info and chatting about it, thats it. You will, more then likely, not find a decent deal at one, its all going to be a mark up. Hell I saw a few vendors selling Mosin Nagants for $200+.....thise rifles in good shape are worth around $100-$120

The only decent deal I saw at a gun show was:

A full auto Vietnam era M16 with a dual drum mag (100 rds), Eotech holographic sight, bipod, quadrail, foregrip, and a surefire laser light combo for $2k, in awesome condition.

It also came with a hard case, sling, and lots of ammo (500+ rds).

You trollin' man? No way a pre-ban would go for anything less than 15k. I could stretch my mind far enough to believe a Colt AR-15 SP1 would go for that much, but not a fully automatic rifle.

That's why I didn't buy it. It was way too good to be true. I figured it was a hot item, and steered clear.

Now, if it was around $8-10k, I can understand the reason that he "just needs to make some quick money, etc. etc." But for $2k? It's looking like stolen stuff.

Lolz, you live on the eastern shore or western boarder don't you....

Sam, don't buy a rifle (other than a .22) if you live in central MD. You will not be able to fire it. Even finding a range that you can shoot a shotgun at can be a pain. Most ranges around here are .22 and hand gun only. Not to mention if you want to go hunting you can't use a rifle in 90% of the state....

If you really want to buy a handgun there are a couple of ranges that let you rent guns, On Target in AA county is one that comes to mind. Pay for range time and ammo and you can shoot a ton of different guns for next to nothing. That way you can get an idea of what gun is right for you.

An AR was my top choice, although I'm not sure about that. No point in having an AR on base if I'm going to be issued an M16A4 anyway. It's not like I can use their optics or any other fancy stuff. Nothing larger than 22 LR is uh, bizarre. I could understand .308 as a cap, but 22 is varmint stuff.

On Target in anne arundel? Damn, that's close. Thanks, I'll give that a quick google. Is their selection alright?

Nope, Howard County. Pretty much smack dab in the middle of the northern part of the state. Why, which part is so funny? (I admit to forgetting about PG county's crime though. )

As for firing a rifle, the Hap Baker Firearm Facility in Westminster will let you fire any kind of rifle. I've seen people there firing ARs before, so unless there was a change in policy (which I doubt) they're quite legal to fire. I was there once when local S.W.A.T. was testing some of their bigger rifles, although I couldn't tell you exactly what sort it was since I was in the pistol range.

There are also plenty of shotgun ranges (Hap Baker will let you fire a shotgun, but only with a rifled barrel), as well as trap 'courses'.

Since the ban is over, pre-ban weapons are not expensive. Having said that, legal full auto weapons are.

You cannot carry on any federal instalation, to include military posts UNLESS it is a weapon issued for a specific duty. This actually is not limited to fire arms, you cannot have pepper spray or stun guns, and knives are very limited too.

On my base, we're not allowed to carry for purposes other than hunting, transporting off base, or going to the on-base trap range. If you live in the dorms, all types of weapons(aside from reasonably sized knives) are prohibited, but firearms can be stored in the security forces armory. In base housing, you can have firearms, but they must be registered with security forces, and be kept unloaded and locked in a secure area.

For transport, the firearm must be stored unloaded and locked, separate from the magazines(which must be empty as well) in the trunk, and the ammo must be in a separate area of the vehicle.

It's a real pain for concealed carry, which is why I live off base.

The only problem with the armory is that some of the...ah...less trustworthy individuals working there will "test" some of the personal firearms to make sure that they are functional.

Yeah, it wouldn't be that hard to do, really, but I'll have to make that decision when I'm not so fresh, with the proper connections and authorizations. I don't know, it just seems a little redundant to spend money on a nice AR when I'd be given one to plink around with when they decide to let me.

POWs on post are a pain, hence the only placed I ever lived on post was Panama where I didn't have too much of a choice. I also left all our guns stateside at my Dad's place the 3.5 years we were there.

I know there's a law on magazine size. I live on the shore where they are pretty accepting of guns (It's one of the few conservative areas in MD). You can't buy magazines that hold 15 or more rounds, but you can own them. Some rifles are also classified as a handgun.

If you're walking around town holding it in your hands, probably not.

Why should they?

I was being a little facetious there Certainly, not all cops are like that, or even a minority of them.

Yeah, I've never seen AR 30 round mags for sale in MD, but you cross the state line, and you can get them aplenty at surplus stores for decent prices. I do understand magazine laws. They might actually do more than firearm restrictions. If nothing else, lower capacity mags make reloads more frequent, giving the police more chances to take down someone in the pauses between reloads, or giving time for people to run away from an attacker.. stuff like that.

At the range, or while hunting, I don't see why you'd need more than ten rounds. Refilling the magazine is easy. There's no stress on you to hurry up or anything. Seems kind of pointless to allow people to bring them in from out of state though.

The Firearms Freedom Act is not in effect. Until this lawsuit is resolved; or a new one is filed by a manufacturer actually building "made in ____" guns you must still fill out a 4473 unless you have a valid CCW card.

The waiting period (for only a few days at least) is the only gun control law I support. Just stop people from buying guns right when they want to kill someone, let them calm down first.

At least for older guns, the automatic weapon laws should be relaxed. It's not like some guy is going to spend 30k on an MG42 to rob a convenience store.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

Thats already the law.

Waiting periods are absurd. they don't stop the crazy. The angry aren't going to go a buy a gun and then run out and blast someone. If they are angry, they're immediate and will just hit them with their car.
