Yea, I can see how their strict, seeing that is how they make a living. I would be strict too if It was my job to sell a new car and someone drives in and starts to talk about his used one

I ended just putting a paper tube on a front of a rhino

Back on topic, thanks a bunch for all the help. I need some ideas/things that would help me after the game.

kinda wanting to make a thread asking what other people's counter would be to a certain unit though.

Perhaps your army will fold in CC, if you allow your opponent to dictate when and where he will engage you in CC. You need to have a plan for how your army will achieve success on the tabletop. Each unit in your army should be a part which contributes to the whole. This is your ideal for how the game would play out in a perfect world. Lean on the veteran Vulkan players and the battle reports to learn the best method for this and adapt it to your particular list and play style.

However, you must remember that your opponent will also have a plan for what he wants to accomplish on the table. So, the implementation of your plan must be fluid or flexible. It must incorporate proper target priority and manipulating the battlefield to your advantage. In order to do this you should have a mix of long-range anti-light to medium armor, close range anti-heavy armor, short range anti-infantry, and maneuverability. You will want to learn to read your opponents deployment to determine his most probable purpose or plan of attack.

Approaching the battlefield/game in this manner will give you the opportunity to dictate when and where (if at all) your opponent is able to get to CC. As you manipulate the battlefield and the match-ups, you will see more success.

On your Sternguard, they are one of the best shooty units in the codex, why would you plan to take them out other element? Keep those guys with Combi-meltas and were they can make good use of the special ammo you are paying for.

Vanguard are you Tac. Marine assault specialist (more or less). It gets expensive, but you can equipment with TH and SS. There are 2 reasons you pay for them, first is the A2 stat, the second is the Heroic intervention rule. Vulkan makes this load out viable becuase of the Master crafting of Thunder hammers.

5x Vanguards w/ TH, Jumppacks 310
or 5 Vanguards w/TH/SS, Jumppacks 385

You have to deploy them with DS in a Vulkan list using Heroic intervention or the are not worth th points.

Becuase you have Vulkan, I would swap the Assault Cannon for a MM on the Terminators.

Invest in a librarian so you can couple him with your sternguard squad. Teleport the squad where the need for special ammo is needed most and high tail it out before they can retaliate the next turn.

Termis can't have a MM. They could swap it for a Heavy Flamer though, which Vulkan would TL.

Hey again guys! needing to revive the thread to ask a few questions:

I posted my list on the 1st page, So I need to ask about replacing the lasback tactical squad of 165 pts with a few options I had in mind:

Devastator squad with lascannon and plasma cannon (150p)
Vindicator w/ dozer blade and extra armor (135p) or w/ a seige shield (125)
Bike squad w/ MM attack bike, x2 melta guns, melta bombs (165p)

I'm weary on filling up H/S slots because I want at least 2 vindicators and a redeemer (for sternguard? ) for 2000 points. which one might be best?

A Devastator squad that doesn't take advantage of its 4 heavy weapons is wasted potential. 150 points will buy you a Dev squad with four missile launchers, which is far more dangerous than a single lascannon. Three Attack Bikes with multimeltas is also 150 points. A Vindicator with a siege shield is always a good investment as well.

If you can free up 5 points elsewhere, a Devastator squad with 3 missile launchers and a lascannon is 170. This way you could use the lascannon model you have, and the BS5 from the Signum on the lascannon every turn.

hmmm, I think I could free up 5 points, so yea that one squad sounds awesome, defiantly scary imho
The vindicator might be killed to often without anything along side it, but I plan on buying a lot of vindicators.

Is the 3 attack bikes better or is a space marine bike squad with attack bikes? I want mass melta madness

And would you say getting a redeemer without a Terminator squad inside, but instead filling up an H/S slot and having sternguard and vulkan sheer insanity?

I would suggest you add either a small dev unit with missiles or a vindicator.

Bikes in small numbers tend to die fast, but bikes are one of the best ways for vanilla marines to get the meltas on the table and were you want them. Normal bikes squads are better since you lose less points per lost model.

As a general rule, a normal biker squad, with 2 melta guns, attack bike with multi-melta, sarge with power fist and 2 extra bikes to take wounds is as good as it gets. Add vulkan to the list for extra tears from your opponent.

We have a guy in our group who runs Mech SM. By god are they the most boring and unfluffy army ever....but he gets consistent results. Something like....

1 Librarian
5 Tacs
5 Tacs
2 x Razorbacks w/ TL Lascannons
2 x Vindicators
3 x Land Speeders w/ Dual Meltas

Ugh I hate playing his SM. Like I said boooooooooooooooooooooring. His Nids are much more fun. However, I hate playing the list which means it's also good.

I dont want it to be boring, I just kinda want to win once in a while. I kinda want revenge, revenge for makeing me look like a fool they will all burn under the foot of my army!!

-Ahem, sorry about that I plan on buying a bike pack soon, So I will get rid of my extra tactical squad.

Also should sternguard be in a land raider? or waste of points/FOC choice?
