Give your scouts camo cloaks, put them in cover, and get your techmarine to bolster defenses on that cover.

Now you've got a 2+ cover save, it'll be hard to shift you from that objective!!

Stick to the shadows - Strike from the darkness - Victorus aut Mortis - Ravenguard 1st Company

Until someone hits you with a heavy flamer. AP4 and no cover save = dead squad. Being roasted is the leading cause of death for my snipers.

How does one get the heavy flamer into position to toast the squad?

You can try and just rush a unit forward to flame it. This means you need to push your speeder or other fast moving unit deep into enemy melta range -- and only an idiot would let it flame his squad on the following turn. That's not a viable strategy.

You could deep strike your HF, using a land speeder or a dread. This tactic is a decent one. You might deviate out of flamer range or even mishap, but risk is part of gaming. Your best best to do this is the dread out of a drop pod. (Though it is worth noting, if the scouts are in multiple levels on a ruins, your dread won't hit many)

My concern is that for a fire-and-forget suicide unit, 150 points is expensive. Sure, its great on that one scout squad but its of limited overall use. That MM that your dread has only has a 21.30% of destroying an AV 14 vehicle at close range. This is because it might miss, or you might roll crappy on the penetration roll, etc...

Can you think of other ways to flame out scouts?

You don't see it much these days with the WD codex, but SoB used to put a lot of flamer templates down on the field. Guess what army my best friend plays? Not necessarily indicative of the greater metagame, but MY scouts have a habit of ending up covered in holy promethium. Rhino full of sisters roll up, flame. Also: immolators.

You also assume that the snipers are going to be deep in your territory. With infiltrate and scout you can start camping an objective out in the middle of nowhere. Even if you have them camping an objective in your own deployment zone, sometimes the enemy is driving his whole army into it. This is not a suicide speeder as an isolated target to be picked off, there are other targets that need to be shot. Or he could be using terrain to block LOS until he pops out for the shot. I know I've done that with my HF/MM speeder.

Terminators can have HFs. You don't often see them equipped that way, but It can happen. I've had an outflanking Baal pred flame a tac squad of mine that was hiding behind a wall shooting at the rest of his army. Rolled onto the board and laid the template right over the whole squad. If they had been scouts, they'd be dead.

Well so far i have ran scouts twice sith snipers. bolters and telion.
I find they work well when backed up by Devastators camping an objective. The devs destroy any and all transports. while the scout go after the survivors, pinning them down.

5000pts 6000pts 3000pts
