I dunno why but I still think that looks more like a Harrier type VTOL to me, works more than the normal GW kit but I'd like to see a StormTalon built in a CV-22 style with the engines in pods at the end of the wings and a T-Tail, I think that would work best.

@whoadirty, she needs a fair bit of work with plasticard sheet and milliput! Anyone on a budget could also use the thin shiny-on-one-side cardboard they use to make breakfast cereal boxes.
@Darknight.
yeah, I know, but this model is never going to be used in a game, so its no loss. In theory its possible to mount them in the nose so they still have a 90degree fire arc, | just found it more realistic to lock them forward. Id imagine the missiles can actually lock to any target in the front 180 degree arc..
Does any one know, rules wise, what the impact of fixing the cannon forward is? what happens if the flyer is immobilised?

Since you already have one, what is the likelihood of being able to magnetise those weapons pods to change out weapons? It looks to me as if it may be tricky...

hey,
Thanks very much everyone, for compliments and rules clarification!
I think Ive figured out how to improve the tail fin area, so will be doing futher work on this when I get a chance.
When its complete I will post photos from every angle and a brief How-To if people want it.
@solofalcon. You can easily make it so you can choose between las/bolter and a type of missile.
bulding it so all 4 weapon options are available would be a little more complex but is still doable.
The weapon pods actually "push fit" onto the fuselage quite nicely.
Cheers,
AH

I posted pictures of mine in the Summer of Flyers thread, it makes it look less like a VTOL, but would take care of the visibility issue for the pilot everytime he fires.

While removing the pods from the front helps offset the initial front-heaviness, I think taking off the horizontal tail just brings it right back again.
I do like the look of the pods mounted over the cockpit though, even if it does seem a little impractical.

@ Akroma06: Once you buy the kit, you'll see no tutorial is needed. The stub that the weapon pods fit it are very easily cut with a new blade, and either a thin piece of plasticard or minimal amount of putty will fill it. You just file the ends of whichever weapon loadout you want (they overlap the main body of the pod a bit) and just stick them to the surface you want to add them to. Even the top vents would probably be easy to slice off. The plastic feels thinner than my older chimeras and leman russes.

Hopefully Anvil doesn't mind me hijacking a bit, but here are some photos of the mods I did of mine:
Sorry for the poor pictures.
I originally had planned on making the missle pods closer to the body, but when I saw Anvil's version, I gave it a try. I had one failed mounting attempt for the missles, but the second time was the charm.
I don't really mod vehicles ever, so this was a challenge. The mod to the assault cannons took me close to two hours because I couldn't figure out what piece was causing it to not fit into the space. There was a lot of shaving bits off, checking the fit, repeat.
I plan on magnetizing the missle rack, it looks to be an easy job.
Still need to figure out how to fill the holes in the nose cone from where the missle racks were though, I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to that. Any suggestions? Oh, and I think I am going to paint over the canopy to hide the pilot. I think the pilot being crammed in the there doesn't help the look of the flyer, it makes it look even more squat IMO.

My only problem with it is the tail, I love everything else. But the flap thingies are in the front instead of the back and it doesn't look right to me, otherwise don't change a thing.

Yeah, aside from the backwards tail wings, that's the best conversion I've seen so far. I like the extra elevation on the missile rack.
My only concern is that while this will look fine with the missiles, it's not so good if you want to use the other heavy weapons on the pods, as they'll be sideways.

@insaniak, agreed, I will definatly be beefing up the tail and adding some horizontal fins again.
@whoadirty, that missile placement looks great, and I considered it, its certainly a lot less hassle than blending them into the body!
also, the tail fin fix is pretty easy, fill the flap side panel lines with green stuff, then score some new lines on the other side to put the fins at the back.
Cheers,
AH
