Next question...

Works against almost everything. Except paladins, wich tend to out-shoot and out-assault everything.

In my experience demolisher cannons tend to work well against paladins, wound on a 2+, cause instant death, ignore their armour. Survivors can be mopped up by whatever plasma or melta weapons you have. Used to stick multi-meltas and lascannons on my demolishers to help against tanks and finishing off terminators, but it was generally overkill.

I usually just run my demolisher with no sponsons and HF on front and it works pretty well(except when it gets a weapon destroyed, then it is an AV14 heavy flamer lol), but it does work great at killing termies of all colors and creeds

Probably work

Depends upon the death star. We don't have many people around here who engage in that kind of behaviour, but when I do see them, I counter with whatever part of my army is best suited for it.

Take IG, for example:

Meltas and/or lascannons counter Paladins.
Torrent fire counters SS/TH Termies.
Meltas/Lascannons/Missile Launchers counter Nid Warrior spam.

Square peg goes in square hole, round peg goes in round hole.

When I'm playing GK or Nids though, I guess it's a little different.

Nids:
Paladins? Hive Guard/Carnifexen (you'd be surprised)
TH/SS termies? Genestealers
Warrior Spam? Well, I've never done bugs vs bugs, but I'd imagine Carnifexen. Depends on if they have boneswords or not.

Grey Knights:
Paladins? Psyfleman
TH/SS termies? Torrent fire
Warriors? Either assault or torrent fire.

Nope, it's still the same. Do what I'm better at than they are at stopping me from doing what I'm better at before they stop me.

In the last game I played, my opponents just ran away from my Death Star, until I got range to his rune priest/GH squad.

He killed 8 of the 12 on the way in though, by shooting at them.

when playing orks... generally with most problems the answer is throw a ton of boyz at it... I prefer slugga choppa boys and 4 attacks each on the charge at str 4 is nice but most death stars would laugh one off... fortunately when he's got another 19-29 buddies backing him up

when playing elday drop a squad of 5 firedragons by them... hmmm was there a threat here? cause all i see is a pile of melted ash

with the blood angels as i have been running blender dreds (blood talon dreds) ... put the blender dred in their infantry... and thats about it... if they are in a land raider I am fortunate enough to always put on magna grapples so here tanky tanky tanky

with dark angels I run mixed terminator armor troops... and alto of em so i respond with my own deathstar

I use a counter death star unit. Typically 5 templar termies with lightning claws and furious charge popping out of a crusader. Its alot of re-rolls.

I do enjoy the dance there is when two deathstars meet, but don't quite want to get close enough to assault. My Nobz circling around my Deathwing opponent's jacked up Terminator command squad until the actual assault happens is always awesome.

Death star... thats star wars fluff man, what drugs are you on ?.

The term "death star" is the common way of referring to an "all your eggs in one basket" beat stick that is hard to take down and can pack a punch, usually lead by a special character or IC. Things like thunder hammer/ storm shield termies, a full paladin squad, eldar seer council on jetbikes, nob bikers. These things involve a considerable investment of points and a battle will often ride one if you can stop them before they hit their target.

OT:I use a unit similar to the OP's, a mix of DCA and crusaders lead by a xenos inquisitor for the grenade shenanigans. I would also say that this unit would barely count as a deathstar it self, if at all. The bulk of the unit costs no more then a marine each with a single force multiplying IC that comes in ~100pts, for around 250 ish total is not bad for what it can take out.

Yea with two of those, 5 psyfilemen, and a vindicare, I still usually have enough points to top out my troops with squads full of stormbolters. They cost nothing, that's why they are so great. In an all inquisition army they are pretty much the only thing worthy of the storm raven, they don't suck up too many points, and in reality they aren't really the main firepower. Actually there have been a few games where the storm ravens fly around shooting all day and then just drop the squads down as an obj holder and they never once fought a unit.

PS I don't actually run 5 psyfilemen, was just trying to make a point

Blocking and playing around it?
It's usually a bad idea to try to engage a real deathstar, because it's been made to be hard to engage or deflate. The rest of their army however is usually very weird because of this. I'd look at the articles on beating rock armies and paladins on the threeplusplus blog.
