Seems odd to me that they would bring Allies back, after just getting rid of them?

Please realize too, that this comes from our trade sales reps. These guys got about an hour total between them to leaf through the rulebook.

-Taking allies was mentioned to me as well, but how you take them, and with what restrictions, and who can take from what books, that's all info we have to wait upon.

I'm reserving judgement on the allies thing until I can read the actual rules. The same for premeasuring, snapfire, paying points for scenery items, and random charge distance.

This can't occur because Fortune only allows you to cast it on Eldar units only...thus the restriction is already there.

I can't see them making it super easy to abuse the allies rules and I would expect there will be restrictions on units etc.

More to the point, who the hell will ally with my kabal of murdering, slave trading rapists?

Wow lets not overreact or anything.... obviously there will be some kind of restrictions. Of course you still might be able to field Eldar and Grey Knights at the same time.

@CaptKurothers

And, Eldar and GK may not be able to team up anyway.

I was just stating the first, and worst, example that came to mind.

It may not be all that bad, it may actually be cool. I am trying to stay open minded, but the millions of combinations this opens up just reeks of game breaking combinations.

@Brettz123

I hope there are restrictions, I do. I believe there will be, but this is GW we're talking about and over the years my faith in them has been eroded greatly.

I was using an example to make a point though, I am not saying that exact scenario WILL happen, but posing the idea of what if it WERE possible. That kind of combination would suck all fun out of the game so fast.

I won't really read too much into it until I see the book--but I have to admit, the word allies brings back not so fond memories of Overwatched, pop up grav tanks fighting alongside SW Terminators.

I'll go ahead and take Immotekh in my SOB army, thanks. He's our pet Necron.

Edit: Heck, I'd take Penitent Engines and Repentia then. lol

For a serious choice, any imperial psyker for SOB would be evil. Also, Vulkan in an SOB list wins.

Im a bit surprised people think it's going to be unrestricted allies.. Why would you even think that? Every time GW has done allies in the past it's always based on a matrix of some variety

Generally Space marines hate EVERYONE except members of the Imperium.

In either case, won't be allowed in tournaments so if you don't want to play vs allies in casual games just let your opponents know.

Time to get a Sanguinary Priest to create a FNP bubble for my Silver Tide Necrons! 3+ save, 4+(5+?) FNP, then 4+ RP = 8% chance of a wound actually meaning something...

DC gets to be held in reserve and then teleported in through the Monolith gate...

Wouldn't think it would be just mix and match.. especially with HQ's. More like if you have an HQ and two troop choices you can take a troop choice from one of your allies as an elite slot.

The whole idea is preposterous actually since they went through effort to remove allies in the first place from the game with redacting the WH and DH codices and writing them out entirely in the new versions of the codices.

@Kirasu

You didn't see the matrix? Haha, crons and marines, tau and marines, eldar and marines.....if that is accurate, you will be seeing some stupid combos.

They specifically mention blood angels and crons and Ultramarines and tau.

Some combos make sense like Daemons and Chaos, or Imperial armies working together.

We'll see what happens when the dust settles, but this has been done before, and it was done very, very badly. It all depends on application of course, it could be super fun for all we know. It is hard not to see the potential for abuse, though.

We'll see very soon.

If you're referring to the allies matrix that was posted a couple of months ago, it was confirmed rather concluively that was just the matrix in use for certain GW events, and has been in place for several years now. It's nothing to do with 6th edition.

It does seem that this discussion could take place more productively in one of the existing 6th edition threads though. Moving on.
