Yeah, equating news corp and scientology is a harder thing to do than equating fox news and all the other news stations.

I would suggest you look at the Levinson inquiry if you wish to see an organisation that is not so much morally bankrupt, as morally in the red.

Is it odd that all of Tom Cruise's divorces happened when the women were 33? 3 divorces at 33? IT'S A CONSPIRACY!

I think a lot of Americans are making the mistake of hearing 'Newscorp' and thinking 'FOX News'.

They are not one in the same, and while FOX News is a gakky news carrier that lies a lot, they aren't the biggest problem with Newscorp. Seriously, the Levinson enquiry is a big deal.

I think its really odd to find out Katie Holmes is 33.

Really odd? I am trying to think of a reason why anyone (other than Katie Holmes & family) would care.

Evil?! Surely that is a bit strong isnt it? I dont even call most actual Religions "evil" no matter what gets done in their name.

What and every other Religion doesn't participate in brain washing? How many Catholics love gay people and are vehemently pro-choice? How many Muslims think Bacon is great and women should be allowed to wear a bikini when it gets hot?

I find it funny when people slate Scientology so much, it does less harm than most surely? If people want to be in a zany club it doesnt bother me too much.

Ill start worrying about Scientology when a Scientologist fills his pockets with rat poison and high explosive, blows himself up on a crowded bus, and then all his friends and family have a party to celebrate the fact the he just did a wonderful thing, and nobody at all who knew him condemns the deed, thus encouraging anybody else who is credulous to do the exact same disgusting act of indiscriminate murder.

And dont even start me on genital mutilation, stoning to death rape victims and child brides. I suggest you look to the east for some truly fething evil gak... you can even read about it in The Guardian, and its not like they write right wing propaganda.

Until then, I can live with secret hand shakes and ridiculous theories about miniscule robots living in our blood.

You forgot bribing police, interfering with a murder investigation (amongst others), holding politicians to ransom by threatening character assassination if they didn't act in News Corp's interest. Yeah, Murdoch is really quite dodgy. This is without the hypocrisy of when they would have a front page of "Look at this evil paedo" and then on the next page a countdown to Charlotte Church's 16th birthday.

And jokes get exponentially better the more times you have to explain them.

I kind of wanted to give a bit of a low down of just how dodgy he is for those who haven't really been following the Levinson inquiry, it's all over the news here but I don't know how much is being reported in the States, I would hazard a guess not at all on FOX. I mean Scientology is bad, but it doesn't affect my life in the slightest, I doubt it affects many lives unless you join up or are unlucky enough to be born into it, but News Corp affects everyone in Britain because of the power they have over our two main political parties.

Fair point. Some journos are alright though, the investigative kind mostly, like the ones who reported the whole phone hacking in the first place.

Also, how in the name of tea and crumpets can you as a Brit say math? It's maths, I allow our American friends to do it as they don't know any better, but I saw that, then looked at your wee flag, then shuddered uncontrollably.

I really only remember her from The Gift, because that film happened to come along at time when those kind of, uh, performances, caught my attention. Basically I don't think I've seen her since*. So its just kind of that strange thing where you get reminded that once someone disappears from view for ten or 15 years or whatever its been, they also aged 10 or 15 years.

*Well, except the first Batman movie. And that Kennedy mini-series. But they were both so forgettable that I did. For about two minutes until I came back in here and edited this.

You know, I was reading the wikipedia article on L Ron Hubbard (I don't know why) and some stuff really struck me.

  • He has a dedicated private army of religious fanatics

  • He has a fleet he travels in

  • Has practiced science of the mind and allegedly possessed psychic powers

  • He was a vicious xenophobe

  • He led several crusades to explorer the unknown

  • He founded a church of unimaginable power whom rule through fear and mysticism

  • He withdrew from mankind to engage in intense research

  • After his death, he remains a beacon for his followers; who think he will awaken again soon

  • The only rational conclusion you can make is that; in actuality, L. Ron Hubbard is the Emperor of Mankind.

I thought it was quite well known that he was a huge Sci Fi nut? I'm sure he has read most every hit sci fi novel, and borrowed from them all. Imagine if you had people that already listened to you, then you read about an Emperor of all mankind, wouldn't that be a title you would then strive for?

All I know is there is a "church" here in Portland Oregon, and there are protests in front of it all the time. I worked at Powells Books for a few years and we would get people transferring books to our store from other warehouses and they would be a stack of Scientology books. They would then go put them on the shelf for others to find I guess. We had a store rule, no fething Scientology BS is allowed. This is actually a pretty big thing, since as a private independent bookstore, they pride themselves in not censoring much of anything. They have books of pictures of naked kids for feths sake, I guess some call that "art". Yet NO SCIENTOLOGY BOOKS is a rule, that is how fethed up that "religion" is

Apparently there is a crack in the monolithic structure, as a Scientology church/mission has broken ties to the official Church because they say that David Miscaviage is a bad man, essentially.

Or maybe you should do a little research on Fox News. If they limited themselves to focusing on a particular sort of news story, that wouldn't be objectionable. Outright fabrications presented as fact are.

The amount of harm done by Scientology and it's draconian practices, on a personnal level, far outweight whatever thought-crime you think Fox News to be guilty of. We are talking about alleged kidnappings, sequestrations for years at a time, forced labour, and one documentary I saw implied institutionnalized sexual assaults. Fox News might be guilty of misinformation, but spin and private propaganda isn't a crime...
