Seriously? God I hate this attitude. You look at Rolling Stones "Top 500 albums" and four of the top ten are Beatles albums. Seriously? The fourth best Beatles album is better than everything that's been put out in the forty years since they broke up. I don't buy that. Not even close. That's just pandering to baby boomers right there. Don't get me wrong, I like the Beatles. I've got all their albums. But to say they're the best that ever was or ever will be disrespects a lot of equally talented musicians. What's more, to say that they're so great discounts their flaws. It's like, because they broke up and people wanted more, people conveniently forget the crap. Revolution #9. That song alone should wipe The White Album off any sort of best of albums list. There are some awesome songs on The White Album, but there's some garbage there too, and a great album should be consistently great, not great as long as you ignore certain tracks. Just about every Beatles album is plagued with a weak song or two, frequently the ones they gave Ringo to sing.

Great bands are great live. Maybe the technology wasn't available to them before they stopped touring, but plenty of other acts from that era, including The Who, The Stones, Zeppelin, and Hendrix all managed to figure it out. The Beatles were certainly forerunners of a social movement, and an incredibly influential band, but no, not the greatest that ever was or will be.

Also, a +1 to this. I used to think I hated the Beatles. Then I just realized I hated their frothing-at-the-mouth, fanatical, "They're the best band in the world EVEH" fans.

yeah, I know, it's 11 but i REALLY couldn't decide who to leave out.

I would have left out Suicide Silence, if only because their last album was incredibly underwhelming and formulaic.

Yeah, 'The Black Crown' was a little disappointing tbh but I think The Cleansing' is a stupidly good album so am basing my choice off of that really when saying SS. Hmm....although, by that logic, there are 'heavy' bands I like 's an discography whole' more. Maybe 'IwrestledABearOnce' or 'JFAC'.

Same here. I protested my Beatles hatred for years, and after I started dating a girl who only LIKES them (and not obsessed with them), I realized that it was the fans shoving them down my throat that made me hate the Beatles.

...And on that note, I'm still not a huge fan of the Beatles, but I will admit, I like some of their music

Probably work

Top 10, in no particular order:

1. Pink Floyd. Surprised this hasn't been mentioned more.
2. Queen
3. Streetlight Manifesto
4. NoFX
5. The Decemberists
6. Smashing Pumpkins
7. The Beatles
8. Operation Ivy
9. Big D and the Kids Table
10. Bad Religion

I gotta like the Beatles. I think they're overrated, by far, but seriously, Sergeant Pepper's was pretty amazing.

Also, honorary mention goes to the Toasters. If it were top 11, they'd be there too.

I rather like the Decemberists, nice to see them.

And the prodigy didn't only make two good songs, the prodigy were awesome when I was a teenager, I don't think Fat of the Land came out for about ten years after that!

I liked "Voodoo People"

Madness, there's another good band. I reckon any band that has made more than ten good songs deserve a mention, so they should be above some much more famous bands as well.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Its an interesting thread.

Seeing some top tens in here, especially where they list off five, six or seven bands I have albums from and really like, makes me think I should be looking at the unknown bands they are listing alongside them.

edit - aye matty, love me some Madness. To be honest something like a top thirty although a pain to list, would open up a lot more interest for reading purposes in how far folks musical tastes go.

Well narrowing down ones musical tastes to just 10 bands is a difficult proposition.

I'm thinking of making another thread for favorite bands from the last 5-10 years. We all know that the classics like the Beatles and Led Zepplin are good. I'd like to know what new bands are out there that I haven't heard of yet.

Top 10 best bands ever... of all time? Let's see:

Karnivool (Seriously, no one said these guys yet?)
Rise Against
Linkin Park
Limp Bizkit
Rammestein
Trocadero (RvB)
Lostprophets
Green Day (Old stuff is better)
Drowning Pool
I'll also drop Hans Zimmer here, unless that doesn't count, in which case I will say Five Finger Death Punch instead.

Haha, almost. But I've never had someone say to me "ERMAHGERD, THE ULTRAMARINES ARE THE BEST EVER"...it's seems I'm actually one of the few people in my FLGS that actually love the Ultras haha.

OT: I'm loving how some of the Top 10 lists are totally scewed with the genres...glad I'm not the only person with varied (and sometimes odd) taste in music

Once again, no particular order.

The New Pornographers

Muse
Joni Mitchell
Queens of the Stone Age
Rage Against the Machine

That's based broadly on 'most listened' estimations cross referenced with 'most albums owned' data.

EDIT: Crap, I forgot about the Pixies. Might edge out one of the others in there, hard to say.

EDIT AGAIN: Double crap, I forgot about Eliza Carthy. She probably knocks Joni Mitchell off the list these days.
