So to go along with the favorite song thread, here's one for your top 10 bands. They don't have to be the top 10 BEST bands of all time, just your 10 favorite bands. There is no right answer.

Mine are in no particular order as that would take me days to figure out by rating every song and album from 1-10 and going off of average scores, which I won't do right now.

The Vandals
No Doubt
Queens of the Stone Age
Rammstein
Mindless Self Indulgence
Lacuna Coil
Missing Persons
Shiny Toy Guns
Jimmy Eat World
Dream Theater

Those are the top 10 for me. Runners up are: Arch Enemy, Coheed & Cambria, Daft Punk, Foster the People, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pendulum, and Silversun Pickups

That is a damn good list right there. Alas, it is mostly the music of the generation or two before mine. The Beatles I would argue are the greatest band that ever was or will be. It is a sad thought of the music we missed out on with where technology went post Beatles. They could have done a great many things. However, I suppose it is best to think that they ended strong instead of trying to always come out with stuff like some bands do where the new music doesn't hold a candle to the older stuff.

In no particular order:

Red Hot Chili Peppers

U2
Madness
Ian Dury and the Blockheads
Big D and the Kids table
Coldplay
Darling Violetta
Vampire Weekend
We the Kings

I could probably quite easily manage another 10, that i'd like to be in my top 10.

Oh dear, top ten. Tough call. This is always tough for me so I'm going to mention bands pretty much as they come to me, so this is in no particular order:
Iron Maiden
Megadeth
Xasthur
Emperor
Mushroomhead
Opeth
Impaled (I guess this also means Carcass, since Impaled is basically four guys who really, really like Carcass, but I don't own any Carcass so I can't actually add them to this list. )
Slipknot (You heard me. What of it?)
Ghost
ChthoniC

Seriously? God I hate this attitude. You look at Rolling Stones "Top 500 albums" and four of the top ten are Beatles albums. Seriously? The fourth best Beatles album is better than everything that's been put out in the forty years since they broke up. I don't buy that. Not even close. That's just pandering to baby boomers right there. Don't get me wrong, I like the Beatles. I've got all their albums. But to say they're the best that ever was or ever will be disrespects a lot of equally talented musicians. What's more, to say that they're so great discounts their flaws. It's like, because they broke up and people wanted more, people conveniently forget the crap. Revolution #9. That song alone should wipe The White Album off any sort of best of albums list. There are some awesome songs on The White Album, but there's some garbage there too, and a great album should be consistently great, not great as long as you ignore certain tracks. Just about every Beatles album is plagued with a weak song or two, frequently the ones they gave Ringo to sing.

Great bands are great live. Maybe the technology wasn't available to them before they stopped touring, but plenty of other acts from that era, including The Who, The Stones, Zeppelin, and Hendrix all managed to figure it out. The Beatles were certainly forerunners of a social movement, and an incredibly influential band, but no, not the greatest that ever was or will be.

i am 20 so it was a couple generations before me as well, but my dad always listened to these bands when i was young and i have come to really like this era of music even though i guess U2 did some later stuff like vertigo(awesome)

I can accept a person who grew up in the 60's loving the Beatles, that's fine, its nostalgia. But all these people in my age bracket that tell me "They're the best band ever!"...hellfire and damnation; they're just a band*.

Some of their songs are good (and Lennon had a talent for lyrics), and they gave us Ringo; these are both good things.

In no particular order, 10 of the bands I like. These currently are on my mp3 playlist.

Queensryche
Queen
Van Halen
Alice Cooper
Curve
The Cult
Def Leppard
Fields of the Nephilim
Heart
Whitesnake.

Whilst I do like some acts that hit the ground post 2000, they are few and far between. There also aren't many that are post 1990 (Grunge was responsible for many crimes against taste).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

U2 would have been on my list if they stopped making music about 6 years ago.

Basically bands in general need to learn to quit while they are ahead.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Cover bands I am assuming Grakmar. Seems way more of that about than I realised.

Saw a note about all female covers the other week, which I'd not heard of before. Some of their names are great. AC/Dshe, Lez Zeppelin, to a name a few.

I don't know about a top 10, but I'll give it a go in no particular order. Can an artist like Neil Diamond be on here, or does it have to be a band? Ah, feth it. This is my list.

U2
Aerosmith

Tom Petty

I would have left out Suicide Silence, if only because their last album was incredibly underwhelming and formulaic.

Yeah, bands is a broad spectrum really. My mind was thinking rock/metal of various flavours.

However if its any kind of band (ie more than one person) then my list needs to be relooked at. Lady Antebellum would be in there for starters.
