Back in 5th ed, 4000pts of Orcs and Goblins vs an alliance of High Elves and Brets. End of turn 3 I am ahead by 23 victory points the game is mine, just need to mop up some archers and stragglers from decimated units.
Then a Knight Errant champion the sole remaining Bretonian knight charges my wounded Giant lancing him to death. The Giant promptly falls backwards onto my Orc Warboss killing him and routing his boar boyz, and the rest of my mainly goblin army in the ensuing wave of panic tests.
The game then turns into a comedic farce as routers, fanatics, pumpwagons and out of control squigs all pile into each other under a hail of bow fire. Needles to say I lost the game all thanks to a single Knight.

Playing skaven, back in the early nineties. I got first turn, ate one warp charge on my warlord which happened to be Ikit Claw, turning him into a warp spawn.
My enemy hadn't had his first turn yet, and half my army fled off the board.

That feels like exactly the kind of clumsy behaviour that SHOULD happen every once in a blue moon to an Orcs & Goblins army. You created a battle that should be in the fluff.

So...first turn of the game with my lizardmen...
Had a slann with the lore of life with a bunch of upgrades, including bsb in a bare bones temple guard unit.
I used 2 dice to case the throne of vines spell...i rolled double 6...
I preceded to fail the 2+ save from the spell against miscasts...
I then preceded to fail the cupped hands roll....
Then I rolled on the miscast table.... got double 1...which is dimensional cascade...
In which i preceded to roll under a 4 to suck my slann in the void as well as killing the whole unit with the strength 10 large template...
All on the first turn...

Dark elves vs tomb kings. Turn 1, my level 4 on shadow marched up to be within pit of shades range. Pit of shades goes off irresistably. Killed his hierophant and most of the unit. Resolve my miscast. Cascade. Woo. Sucked into the warp. Followed by my pendant hero failing his Ward save against a necrosphinx's heroic killing blow attack. Great opening turn right there.

Those little moments of abject failure and logic defying heroics are one of the reasons this can be such a fun hobby.
Its weird that my most fondly remembered battle is one I lost 16 years ago, I still have the army list with victory point tally knocking about somewhere

Ahh, this one is one I'll always remember.
1,500 points, Beastmen vs. my buddies High Elves. I'd brought a Giant for the giggles.
Now my opponent's shooting had been working out great for him, and he'd reduced my giant to just 1 wound. However, the giant had been sprinting up the field for 2-3 turns and was able to pull off a flank charge against some spearmen. I roll to see if he decides to jump up and down and he does. I reluctantly roll, hoping I don't get a 1. I rolled a one, and the giant template scatters behind him.
The way I envisioned it, the giant was so excited to finally get into combat that he'd slipped in his attempt to jump on the elves and broke his back, killing him instantly.

I had a skaven warpfire thrower misfire *prompt smug 'fail' comment*, it runs into my knight unit worth 300 odd points, blows up, kills ALL of them. This was a 800 point game.

Assassin with Black Lotus Poison
|
Thought up another funny one which happened to me. Me and another Dark Elf player against Skaven and Beastmen. Opponents magic phase, my unit of Shades with Assassin in combat with a horde of great weapon Bestigor with the Beastman players shaman in with them. I know my unit is going to die, it's just a matter of how many of the enemy I kill first. First the Skaven player casts Warp Lightning on my Hydra getting irresistible force. I save the wounds caused against the Hydra with my Regen save and then the Skaven player rolls for his miscast. Dimensional Cascade. He's sucked into the Warp and takes about 4 Gor who were standing next to him with him. Beastman shaman casts Wildform on the unit of Bestigor, getting irresistible force. He rolls Dimensional Cascade, too. Hits 4 of my Shades and my Assassin. The Shades die and the Assassin Look Out, Sir!s it onto the last Shade. It then takes out around 7 of the Bestigor and the Shaman is sucked into the Warp. So in that Magic phase they killed a unit of Shades at the cost of 7 Bestigor, 4 Gor and their only two wizards. Fair trade, I think.

I once had a unit of 20 Phoenix Guard that I was using to charge my opponents horde of skaven slaves. They had to cross dangerous terrain, but I wasn't too worried seeing as my only other option was to stay and get charged from behind by a huge unit of rat ogres. So I make the charge and roll for my dangerous terrain test. Out of the twenty dice I rolled, SEVENTEEN came up as ones. My opponent was still on the floor laughing as his skaven slaves finished them off. Ended up losing the game - as well as 20$ - because of that.

not quite sure: how about this, instead of losing 1 unit, how about losing 2000 points worth of models in one magic phase! yes i lie to you not! Foot of Gork/Mork
14! I reapeat 14 times!
he took out 2000 points of my army in the first turn! i forgot to use my dispell scroll, thought "i know i have 6 dispell dice, and a lvl 4 wizard! i can beat his 18! but nooo! rolled four 1's and a 2 and a 3! he took out 2 units of 10 chaos knights, 2 units of 18 WoC and my dragon/chaos lord!
i was pissed off lol probably the only time ive lost my cool during a game, lol at first anyway, but as he kept hitting we were eventually rooting to see if he could infact remove my entire army in one turn! but sadly i was allowed to kill some of his units but wasnt enough! at the end of the first turn i only had 1000 points left on the table so i called it quits and was just too funny, the deplyment time lasted longer then the game (20+mins)

While it wasn't MY units, I did have a Storm of Magic game against my friends' Greenskins, bulked out with lots of Giants. In one fight, three Giants were locked in front with my infantry.
Giant on one side dies, falls sideways. Kills the next Giant.
Giant falls sideways, kills the third Giant.

Years ago in 5th ed my friend and I swapped armies for the day. He played my Bretonnians and I took his Skaven. Think the battle was around 2500pts. About halfway through he makes his power play, lances KOTR and Louen Leoncoeur (sp?) into my flank with the King going for my stormvermin. In the shooting phase he decides to shoot into the combat concluding that S3 longbows won't do much to his 2+ save troops should they accidentally hit. He kills none of his own knights, 2 Stormvermin and the King of Bretonnia... With peasant longbowmen.
