Started with beaky marines and orks. I've always had orks.
Drunken, goofy barbarians. Plus these guys are tough and nasty and yet still have this fun vibe going on that I don't think any other army could pull off without being stupid.

Don't Press Dat!, Old squig catapults that would hurl the crew by mistake, exploding dreadnought arms, etc. all make it fun.

When I used to play in gaming clubs, I would get tired of "competitive types" bending the rules, getting genuinely angry at dice rolls and losing. I figured this out, ALL gamers should field an ork army at least one year. It'll really calm them down and make them take the game less seriously.

Also, marines. They are the true heroes of the Imperium. I always go back to them. And even with the hordes of Chaos, I still feel that Orks vs. Space Marines is the classic 40k match up.

I've always loved the Orks - in the grim-dark far future of the 41st millennium, there is only fightin' an lootin' an fightin' an winnin' an lootin'.
The ease with which they exist as a society, as well as how successful they are as a species, drew me straight to them as the army to back. Their flexibility in conversion is also an attraction - it's all fluffy, and it's all orky!

I started with tyranids. Loved them but didn't get the feeling that it was my army. Got tired of being stomped by space wolves rune priests and their jaws of the world eating my low initiative big bugs. Then got Tau. They were nothing I liked. Sounded good on paper. Not so much for me in battle. Then went to dark eldar. Now that army I really like. The fluff, the new model line, the different ways to play them. So I get that feeling with dark eldar. Orks are fun too. Silly greenskins. My most recent army is sisters of battle. First imperium army I have ever played. Haven't had a battle with them yet to see them in action

I first started out with Imperial Guard. I loved, and still do, the Leman Russ. The idea of the common man protecting his planet, his home ( I played PDF) is a noble thing to me. But with the release of the 5th ed codex, I kind of found myself just kind of setting up models and holding dice. I've been trying to find an army ever since and think I've found it with Chaos.

Tyranids.

Straight up, best looking range in the game, which is the primary reason I play - the models.

When there's a well painted Tyranid horde on the table, nothing looks better.

Eldar. The speed, the mystery, and the sheer hitting power. Then there is the beauty of the army. The model range is very attractive, and it always has been. Even back in the Rogue trader days it had a certain feel. Sure they look silly now, but back then they were awesome.
