GW regular policies say no, your store can say something diferent. I think the model looks nice.
Keep yourself out of sight. You can probably use that model. Like someone else said: remove the "little base" from the legs/body, and add some puches, bags and stuff like that (maybe even a backpack). You are using 2 pieces from the "not GW" piece, whose probably weight less than the GW pieces you are using.
If you can, dont include the base on the count, it can sound silly...

Time to decrease the 50% of gaming that goes on at GW stores and increase your other 50% to make up the difference.
I think the conversion/kit bash looks too good not to go forward with it.
|
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I've notice that it depends on how much the model cost in GW parts that's the issue rather than percentage so if it's 50/50 gw/non- GW it dosn't mater if you need to buy multiple box set to make 1 trooper, cynical I know
If that's the look your after I can think of a few ways to doit with gw stuff
Easiest two are buy foreword death corps of Kreisler models or the armageddon steel legion models from the collectors section
The other is to use the legs from the high elf archers and cadian bodies with the same arms and head you've got now, but you'd probably need to fill the shoes less pointy and add som green stuff trim to the robes to make them look more like over coats
Or finally same as above but with these legs
http://www.beastsofwar.com/hobby-supplies/accesories/maxminis-great-coat-legs/
But then your back to asking is it gw enough
Plus none of those are cheap options

You can also use the cadian torso, with shelved WGF legs... that way your core is almost "cadian", only using the bitz you like (and not offered by GW) from the WGF soldier... (legs and head).

Just how ignorant are you hoping the staff to be? It's going to be fairly obvious they are manufactured models and are not GW.
My advice, don't play in a GW store and then you can play how you wish with whatever figures you like. GW stores must be the worst places to game unless you enjoy being a purist.

I know you said they don't match the look, but if you take the time to cut every single soldier appart, that is 50 soldiers for 52 pounds + shipping so about 100$, price is far for reasonnable now.

it is neither new or unreasonable. They want to promote their product. I'm sure that Windows stores don't allow people to fart about on ipads using their wifi either.
The rule is that the model has to be identifiable as a GW product at first glance. Some overly zealous GW employees take it a bit far though.

I wasn't able to go to the store today, I'm taking a few people's advice and i'm cutting the base and adding some more accessories then I'm going to prime it black. I will explain to the GW employees and hope they have leniency. Again as I said before the GW is the only store within miles that has a dedicated 40k player base so I am forced to play by their rules. Automatically Appended Next Post:
I would try them but they are all metal and really hard to work on.

Tell me, wich are the legally bases GW use to endorse that policie? Their stores are open to the public, so, how can them "ask someone to leave"? Serious, i cannot see that happening in my country without the involved store getting some "racism case" issued over it...
You know, people can find any excuse to allow only "the right kind of people" in their stablishments...

One can hope that they politely approach the person in question and say something along the lines of; "I am sorry, sir, but I am going to have to ask you to leave the store".
A customer does not have a "right" to frequent a given privately owned store. That is a priviledge......that can be taken away.

You can refuse a customer, and they are allowing me to use their tables without paying a fee or buying anything which I appreciate, I'm just trying to respect their rules no matter how rigid they may seem to some.

Being open to the public doesn't make it public space. The store owner (or their proxy, in this case) has the right to refuse entry, or to ask someone to leave, by virtue of it being private property and the customer being a guest on it.
There's a lot of things that you can find to complain about where GW are concerned, but their right to not allow people to promote other companies' products in their stores is not one of them.

No-one is going to be asked to leave - just told to pack up the models.
In response to the 'who's gonna notice' argument - you've got people who are
A: Enthusiastic about their own hobby
B: Trained to be enthusiastic about your hobby
C: Have a wealth of information and knowledge about every single mini GW makes, and an in store order point with photo's available of every model.
Your local staffer is more than likely to come have a look at your mini's at some point, just because he/she is genuinely interested! When they see a cool conversion/model that isn't just another cadian they're gonna ask how you did it.

I'm just saying its very obvious that figure on the first post of this thread mostly isn't GW, and even a glance of the army will indicate that. The suggestion that an employee would have to 'investigate' your models to spot this is rather optimistic. A head or gun swap isnt much, but this figure only uses GW arms. It's rather a stretch to hope to deceive fellow hobbyists, people who know GW products and are likely familiar with other companies' output. Trying to say they are home sculpts or Rogue Trader figures won't wash.
Anyway, doesn't it seem a bit odd to lie to get a game in a shop? It's clear your stuff isn't welcome there whether you get caught or not.

Some stores have staff whom are more flexible on conversions than others. They might even have a percentage of non-GW allowed.
Some stores have staff that can't be flexible unless they take the broomhandle out of their ****. Maybe some just do it because they believe the great GW can do no wrong. Maybe it's because they are incapable of independent thought, who knows?
Some stores have managers whom are hypocrites. They will personally use (in store) armies with converted bits (using third party bits) YET disallow anyone else to play with the same in store. I did frequent one store like this - it was my local. I no longer frequent ANY GW stores, though. So whether or not they have 'improved' is irrelevant to me.

The second a person asks "cool model, what kit is it from" and you say anything other than a GW kit, it is promoting a competing product. That happens all the time. People look at models and if they don't recognize it right away, they ask where it's from. I did this recently at a conversion contest when I couldn't identify a set of metal GW wings. Turns out they were from some super old wyvern model which I had to scour the internet to find.
As for getting "ejected", in most cases the employees have some tact. At my local GW, the manager has a few basic rules: 1 no non model proxies. Using ANYTHING on the appropriate size base is ok for playtesting, but repeated proxies aren't allowed. If after a few games you still don't have the models, the proxies won't be permitted.
2. No blank bases.
3. No outright non GW models. I have an awesomely painted AoW DE sorceress, and Chris politely asked that I not bring her to the store. Luckily the 2 GW ones are nice looking, so no skin off my back.
He has no problems with 3rd party bits, I asked him directly on the subject a while back. But a model with Head, legs AND torso all being 3rd party isn't really bits, it's the core of the model. As such, he would politely ask you to put the models away, and if he had ones in the store already built he'd let you use those instead. He's let me use store models a few times when I've forgotten my eagles at home and didn't have model proxies.
