Uncovering "Genestealer Infestations" on Imperial hive worlds was something regularly discussed in 5th ed fluff, though it was always unclear if they meant Genestealers hiding in the sewers, genestealer cults, or both.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

That's my point. It was all alluded to, general, vague, not explained. This is 'genestealer cults' right in your face, and that's a good thing.

The Crimson Path doesn't sound like a very good plan. The strategic significance of the Cadian Gate is as an asset for the forces of Chaos, not the Imperium. Chaos wants to control the sole stable path out of the Eye of Terror so that they can enter and leave at will, while all the Imperium wants to do is stop Chaos from using it. Destroying the Cadian Gate, by overloading the pylons and turning the planet into a daemon world, would stop Chaos from using it, which means trapping themselves inside the Eye of Terror with no reliable way out.

It's like if you're trying to invade a neighbouring country with the only reliable path being a single heavily defended bridge. The Crimson Path means blowing up the bridge.

It seems like a lot of work if you ask me. Would you rather take one planet and use it as a staging ground to move forces in and out of the EOT, or would you instead just make the EOT bigger?

Conquer one planet, or try and rip an even bigger rift in reality.

Think of something clever to say.

But the important part of the Crimson Path is the expansion of the Eye of Terror to encompass the rest of the galaxy. There's no reason to leave it if everywhere you'd want to be is contained within it. To use your example, you can't cross the bridge because it's owned by a neighboring country. But what if it wasn't a neighboring country anymore? It was just the newest province of your own country. Wouldn't have any problems crossing then.

So still the old " chaos will spill into the material realm and take over" ..?
Am sorry, but this is NOT a good plan, just a typical Ezekyle A, attack-dog of the Warmaster style plan.

This is the Galaxy vs Abby & friends. Because no one, except chaos itself is going to like it.

But everywhere will never be contained within it if you can't muster sufficient force to complete Step B.

I'm more bothered by the fact that Abaddon is now basically just the Gods bitch.

Well, the old fluff pieces would show Abaddon basically making bitches out of every deamons out there, and flipping off the Gods, while now he's basically their best buddy and greatest hope for a 'quick' universal takeover.

The newer stuff doesn't really contradict this. Abaddon isn't a Word Bearer talking about the glory of Chaos. He views Chaos as a tool to win the Long War. There's a good rant in the novel Soul Hunter where he calls Chaos my power. Of course it can be argued that this is just delusional and he is but a pawn of Chaos (which I am inclined to believe).

New Chaos Codex, page 24:

746.M41 The Constantinus Iconoclasm

The Sons of Guilliman free Nova Terra from a Tyranid attack. Afterwards, Squad Constantinus hunts down remnants of the Hive Fleet, finding Genestealer cults within the noble families of the capital. The entire ruling class is executed...

And so on and so forth.

There are the words "Genestealer" and "cult" used right next to one another. Closest I've seen in recent years are vague references to 'xeno cults', so this is the first actual reference to something we really haven't seen since 2nd Ed.

I have no complaints about that, in fact, I want MOAR!!!

That's outstanding.

Well, yeah, but by conquering the universe this way he basically offers it to the Warp... I mean, it wouldn't even leave a material universe to rule anymore... I don't see much the point of conquering the galaxy if it's only to rule it from behind your Gellar fields...

Well, no, I mean, there was a good Love-Hate relationship between the Gods and Abaddon. You couldn't tell if he was using them, or being used by them.

Now he's trying to make our side of the universe flip in their side. What kind of result is he hoping for, other than ending all material existence?

Eye of Terra.

The funny thing is that being a fan of Warhammer fantasy, the whole Black Crusade/Crimson Path thing reminds me of GW's Storm of Chaos campaign where Archaon marches on the Empire and lays it waste... that campaign from what I understand did not end well and was rewound and started over, lol.

Well, the theme is nearly the same.

That's right, but it's well known that without the Emp, the Warp would engulf the Materium. Thus, drowning Terra in a permanent Warp Storm would end-up serving the Materium to the Gods on a silver platter.

What makes you think that is "well-known" among the forces of Chaos specifically, or Abaddon in particular?
