I'll be trying them out fairly soon as i think they look good on paper and, with a Warpsmith nearby, et an extra 4+ to regen hull points.

I really want them to work well as they are a nice fluffy adition to my iron Warriors army (and i can't afford to buy the mauler/forgefiend kit for a while).

Mine is now an allied soul grinder. AV 13 and can deepstrike, and all that for a huge discount over the defiler.

Personally, I'll be buying one and running it as a Dakkafiler.
Yes it's a bit pointsy (at 217), but it's a lot of firepower (with soul ablaze) with the Battle Cannon, Reaper Autocannon, 2 Havoc Launchers and Warpflame Gargoyles.
(Alternatively you can add in 35pts worth of bolters on top! for a TL Bolter, 3 different combi bolters. I fully intend to try this 252pt beast!)

Personally, I don't really want to use the Defiler as a CC beasty

I actually have the real Soulgrinder models (bought them because they have the same footprint and were far cooler models). This might be a nice idea. Do they come with the Daemon USR?

Its a vehicle (walker), a power fist is a weapon.
Weapon destroyed results dont really care what type of weapon it is.
So it would be destroyed in the same way any other weapon on a vehicle would be.

Points do seem a tad high for a AV12, even with its array of weapons, and the fact that havocs sudden became amazing overnight does not help thier cause 1 bit.

Edit: Soulgrinder:

Special rules: Fleet (bonus) Daemon (for soul grinders this rule simply means they deploy like all other daemons, and are immune to "shaken" and "stunned" damage results)

Do like my grinders, but you need to go all or nothing with them otherwise they dont do a great deal.

the warpsmith can repair an allied deamon soulgrinder. This may be a good plan.

I welcome it.

How are you firing both the Battlecannon AND the havocs?

Don't they also benefit from the Daemon USR in the BRB?

I think an allied grinder is less of a threat in a CSM list, because there are other vehicles and such out there. It won't be as high a priority target. Half your army isn't in reserves. If you ally in 4 units only 2 units are in reserve. So there is a lot more on the table that needs to be shot at.

Good point - after you fire ordannce everything else can only snapfire...and template/blast weapons can't snapfire.

And where are you getting all those weapons from?
As far as i can see you can: swap the Heavy Flamer for a power Scourge/Havoc launcher....and swap the Reaperautocannon for a Powerfist/TL H.B/TL Lascannon.

edit -

never mind, i forgot it can take stuff from the vehicle armoury as well.......will have to add a Dirge Caster to my Defilers.
