Weird, thread on warseer closed for investigation? Wonder what all that's about.

Seems the usual "Avian trolling Stickmonkey" thing.

I don't think it is just that. Reading through the thread, I've never seen such a ridiculous thread on the internet in such a long time. Dark Angel fanboys with their panties in a twist, people saying GW should put out a new book every few weeks, people saying Daemons are crap, general trolling, etc. It's a mess.

Than again none of that is really surprising when you think about it; the majority of posters on Warhammer forums act like GW exist for their own personal whims. The term 'drop the ball' has all of a sudden lost its original meaning and now refers to when a group that in no way represents the entirety (and often not the majority) of the collective feel unhappy about a product. Because all of a sudden the desires of the one trump the needs of the many.

So, Cruddance isn't doing the Daemon Books? Well...dodged that bullet. Jeremy Vetock is a solid codex writer he'll due. I'm excited about the new GD models, especially the Jes designed them. Just please let them have gotten a decent sculptor on them. Hopefully the Stats boost them beyond the new CSM Daemon Prince.

I wonder the extent to the 'update' or what have you to the Chaos Daemons Codex/Army Book. It isn't a huge overhaul, and I wasn't looking forward to it being as such, but I think a CSM approach wouldn't be considered a huge overhaul. Ideal corrections/tuning to points values and a few new units or so; and, ya know...be kinda nice if Daemons were awarded more options...gifts...etc? I find the current codex to offer a plethora of amazing options to them. -sarcasm-

As long as the Daemon release provides me with good GD models, reasonable stat increases/tweaks and a fair amount of options...consider me a happy Chaos Daemon player. New units are just bonuses in my regard.

No DA in Nov OR Dec?... Looks like I was destined to play BA after all. I'll save my DV Termies and the Land Raider I bought for a DW army in April. Blender Dreads here I come! Good thing I have an Astorath and DC Assault Marines available. Lets do this!

Bretonnia and Wood Elves got terrible army books, Daemons are OP as heck, Dwarfs still have 1 viable list and...

...WoC get a new army book? Dafuq? Guess GW decided they'd need MOAR SKULLZ.

Way to make a terrible edition even worse. Woop woop.

Things is they both have been thrown a bone with in the year, tau and dark angles are still kicked in the corner. I can feel the frustration but I want to say that going by stickmonkeys history, this is kinda not that reliable. I hadn't even heard about anything Deamon

Okay, I seem to have missed this somehow. Exactly what WoC stuff did Stickymonkey predict for November?

Edit: NM. It was a throwaway line in the rumor tracking thread. "WoC will drop in Oct or Nov"

Sorry, but I'm not buying this new information.

DA have been a 2012 release for ages. While I can understand a big Hobbit release for the film, it makes no sense to release a WoC update in White Dwarf when they don't really need one and their army book is only in March/April.

Will an update in WD boost Chaos sales for Xmas? I doubt it. Would a big DA release boost sales at Xmas? Yes it would.

I still have DA for January 2013 and Daemons for February in my summary. Stickmonkey's sources are not the best in predicting short term release dates, but we will see. I rather hear what Hastings predicts if both differ.

How do you know exactly who represents what? A smaller group of people on a forum is just as good a representation of the larger whole as any. This basically is the same as when they do (political) polls etc, and those usually are accurate enough.

Let me add an example because this is not meant as an attack on you or anything like that:

The recent CSM release...

Reading all the speculation threads leading up to the release, and also talking to people at several local gamestores (including GW's own staff), the things we saw being hoped for were multi-plastic Cultists, Plague Zombies, Legion specific kits & characters, a new Abaddon sculpt, a book full of Legion specific rules, etc.

What did GW give us? A couple of He-Man lookalike fugly dinosaur monster toys and a handful of other kits/blisters (including some perfectly alright stuff too of course, although being minor items).

Now do you really think that the people wishing for the former (and who are now clearly voicing disappointment about what they got) are just some minority yelling on the internet, and that the true representation of customers got exactly what they wanted all along in the latter? I can't imagine anyone really thinks that.

GW pushes upon us whatever they want to push upon us, and as long as people still keep spending their $$$ on this inferior stuff just because there is a lack of better (within their game systems), then they will keep getting away with it . Did we really want a game dominated by big expensive monsters & magic, or a game dominated by big expensive flyers? Or are people just coping with whatever GW decided we wanted? For the lack of better.

Obviously every company out there is in it to make as much profit as possible. However the difference between GW and a lot of other companies is this blatant gimme gimme gimme all your money vibe that GW has, which is getting increasingly and annoyingly worse and has started to overshadow all the other (good) aspects the company has. GW decides what overpriced stuff they want to push upon us first, and then makes the rules of their games accordingly, instead of of the other way around. Imo a truly good product sells itself and doesn't leave you with a taste of spending more than something is worth and "it could all be so much better".

Not that any of this is even close to keeping me awake at night, but I am convinced it is true and it is such a shame.

I'm also willing to bet my left nut that if the entire "community" is asked right now if they'd rather have DA, Daemons or LotR that DA would win by quite a large margin.

At this point I don't even know of any people rumored to still play LotR. GW was too blinded by the dollar signs in their eyes to see that LotR was an investment with limited appeal to a limited crowd for a limited time. Yet because of the contracts they signed, here it is, still fething up releases that people actually care about.

The funny part is that the contract ended in 2010 but GW decided to renew, thinking that The Hobbit would generate enough income to cover the licensing. They had every chance to drop it and somehow decided not to. Like there are so many GW customers who play ONLY LotR and would just quit GW altogether if it went away.

I like the movies, I like the story, but that is where it ends for me. The visual aesthetic of the movies doesn't translate to models well for me. I like my heroic scale models.

I like heroic scale stuff, too, but the LOTR stuff goes together just fine.

I think there's a big enough market for LOTR-centric people that they don't
want to lose that revenue. It's not like they're losing 40k/WHFB players because
of it.

I do feel as though the LotR market loses alot more of it's players to other manufacturers (mostly historical) than say 40k, especially for LotR players who aren't overly attached to PJ's take on Middle Earth. I know personally I've spent over 2 grand this year on models for LotR, but over half that was for stuff from Warlord, Perry's, Gripping Beast etc. Why would I spend $18CAD for 3 Dunlendings when I can get a box of ~40 celts or saxons for under $40. The Perry's War of the Roses range covered my fiefdoms nicely, and between Conquest Games and Fireforge I'll pretty much have Rohan done. What GW I did buy I mostly got off Ebay, as orcs (and other plastics) are fairly cheap there, and for the characters as I wanted to avoid Finecast. I also think that LotR players consisted largely of 2 groups: The "oooh LotR models, cool" group, which now several years after the movies had all left, and the more mature group who tend to avoid the "We are the entirety of the hobby" and "morr skullz" vibe that GW seem to be giving off more and more nowadays and therefore play at home.

That said, I've rather gone off topic abit, so back to bitching about how "this (my) game system should be focused on more than the others".

As a Dark Angel player, I will actually admit that the shift to April makes me happy. I have spent a metric arse-load of money on hobby stuff this year and when the DA codex was supposed to release before the close of 2012 I was worrying I wouldn't have any funds for it (especially as my group is getting back in to Infinity whole hog now). I'm still glad I decided to actually get in to 6E, but I am going to hold my enthusiasm a bit until I see the next codex after Chaos. After Daemons in (hopefully) January, they should have a better handle on how to design with 6th in mind and hopefully the DA codex will have a more well thought out design because of that.

And in the meantime I have so much stuff on my backlog that I may be able to actually get some of it done before the Dark Angels come out and put me behind again. Either way, knowing I don't need to think about 'em for another six months is a good thing (I hope it is accurate and they don't come earlier, I am fine with later, hell let the Tau come out first!). I'm even not that sad about it being a Wardex simply because at least he may try something new with them. Even if it ends up being weird and over the top it will be fun to not buy the fluff section from Codex: Angels of Death and a set of boring arse rules again (going on three times now... even if the two 3rd Edition codices kind of forgot 90% of the fluff section). And if the background is horrible and burns my eyes but the rules are fun (which, to be fair, has a good chance of happening), then I already own Angels of Death and can simply continue to pretend the background never changed (I'm good at it now since the background hasn't changed in over 15 years).

Can't see why anyone who had to live through the last codex would be pissed. Better a well-thought-out product with a clear vision and mature design than a half-arsed beta test for the next edition.

Small update on Daemons:
Stickmonkey wrote:I forgot about Furies. They have been redone, they are coming for Daemons, they look so much better than the current models. The question will be if their rules make them worth it. They are about Nid Gargoyle sized, maybe a bit larger. Bat wings. Much more daemonic heads with toothy maws in 2 parts like the horrors and bloodletters. Not the bat men of old. Dual kit with a new ground based daemon, much like the vargheist/crypt horrors (which I've mentioned before).

There are a lot of questions winging my way about the GD. So to try to address those:
1. I don't know for sure all 4 will be released at once or if they will be in waves.
2. I have conflicting rumors they are moved to the oval base and are roughly the size of the beastmen gorghon, vs staying on the 60mm round bases. Based on my personal eyes on on WIP before, they are bigger. The GUO was not as big as the FW model, but its bigger than a dreadnought. My source says the GUO is the best looking of the new models, that it is "absolutely rot, in a good way".
3. The BT should be slightly shorter than the dreadknight. stylewise it hasnt changed much.
4. The KoS is the most changed style wise. Does not go towards the FW model or retain the style of the current GW model. Still very slaaneshi
5. The LoC AFAIK is the tallest of the models, not just due to the wings. Did not appear as hunched as before. Head options include a more fishy looking option.
