1000 to 2000 points makes for the most amusing games. It also allows for taking fooder units and such.

No but seriously I find that 1500 to 1850 are the best for myself.

2000pts.
Used to play more 1500, but I find it's more fun at 2000pts, and with practice the time it takes is okay, and when I play, there is enough time for 1 2000pt battle but not enough for 2 1500pt battles. Not a great fan of playing at smaller points levels unless for special occasions.

I'm willing to play any army @1850
Some armies will start to struggle at this point though.
Other armies struggle at 1000 though so it's a bit fair.
I'll never play a 2000 pt game as I find the Double FOC ridiculous.
That said I'd be willing to play 1999+1
For me the best games are between 1500-1850 anything larger and it takes forever. Anything smaller and you don't have much to play with alot of the time.

It also takes less time so you can get more games in.
I agree with this whole heartily, I really really really hate playing 2k, just to big for my liking and goes on to much, and you dont really have to think about what you will take because you can take so much.

1850-5k, I like my games big, around here 2k is roughly 2 hours, so multiple games isn't a problem.
I prefer objective missions, but then again I run more troops than anyone else in my area.

Thank you to everyone who has shared thus far! Really interesting to read all the different views. Seems like most people tend to play 1500 - 1850 pts for the most part. I was wondering though, How many games are you able to really get in personally at these levels? Right now a 1000 pt game takes a bit if time due to my lack of experience and remembering 6E rules like over watch and rolling for Night Fighting. I always forget to roll for Red Thirst lol. Lucky for me my opponent understands and lets me roll for that if I remember before the end of turn 2. So how many games are you able to fit in at your points lvls during a day of playing? Looking for subjective personal opinions just to be clear.

Well if I play a game I'll only play one game a night, but I can easily get a 2k game finished in 2-3 hours.

That seem pretty good imop. A 2k game would take me 4 hours at least lol. Sucks to be learning so slowly. I can only get in about a game a week right now.

I couldn't always play that fast, when me and my buddy first started about a year ago it would take us a whole evening just to finish a thousand points. So just keep going at it, I started with blood angels as well and it can be confusing with all their special rules, I found it easy to write a check list, just to keep reminding myself of the things I often forgot, like red thirst. Untill you get the hang of it.

I like lots of toys on the board so my norm is 2k. My bro has difficulty bringing more than 1.5k of his Eldar so that is what I play against him.

1500-1750 usually takes about 3 hours with my group, but we also chit-chat and aren't in a rush. One of my buddies and I play fast together, and have done a 2000 point game that went 7 turns in less than 2.5 hours. For my group, that is lightning fast!

1,000 - 1,500 for me. We play kinda slow by most standards so bigger games can really drag on. For deployment, board edges (don't recall what the name is in the BRB) is the favorite. Game type I like the relic (or objectives in general) since being able to move the objective adds an interesting dynamic to most games.
PS. Thematic terrain/objective placement also tends to make things interesting

I prefer between 1,500 and 3,000 point games. I don't really have a favourite mission etc but I do seem to play relic about 90% of the time even though we roll for mission every single game

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

500 pts-
The rules dont work well at 500 but can be fun with little twists to the rules.
750 pts-
Some of my friends say that this is where 40k starts and I agree it allows for basic options with the rules as is with no modifications
1000 pts-
my favorite points value, nothing over powered and if there is an op unit than it is the majority of the points in the list and the rest of the list is minimal
1250 pts-
This is where you would see an expensive unit probably
1500 pts-
This is as high as I go, cause I run out of models. I like it and I have a blast its just I don't have a proper army list for this value.

Depends on the armies and the scenario as to time limits; 1,000pt games are decent but don't give you a lot of space for variety in your lists, 1,500pt games are a good balance, and 2,000pt games are fun if you're willing to invest a full day in it. I've played 5,000pt Apocalypse games before and never made it past turn three...

Well for me it mostly depends on sort of opponent.
Last few week I started 40k group in the town where I am currently living so for introduction games and to make learning easier we play 500 points. In my opinion that is enough for new players to try some basic units and rules to get hold on to and also for me to get grip with new 6th ed. Main problem with that size is power of different armies, we have Eldar player (not so much units, most of stuff is overpriced in comparison but he likes everything pointy-eared and plays for fun), Space Wolf player (those Long fangs are really nasty at this size), Grey Knights (couldnt believe that they are so strong until he wiped my forces in turn two) and I am playing Chaos.
After initial 500pts learning level I believe that optimal is 1500 pts for nice casual game with enough stuff to be entertaining and short enough to allow for maybe two games per night.
