I thought 5hour big draw was it didnt have much caffine in it?

It probably doesn't have the actual caffeine molecule or whatever, but i'm sure it's loaded with other "herbal" supplements, that are nothing more than sugar with a different name
But an October 2010 analysis by ConsumerLab.com, an independent group that conducts product evaluations, found that it [Five Hour Energy] contained about 207 milligrams of caffeine.

That's actually a lot of caffeine considering the size of a bottle of 5-hour energy.
207mg is like two cups of regular coffee.
That's less than what you'd get in a large latte where I'm from.
Yeah but how big is a cup of coffee? Five Hour energy bottles are tiny and they're packing as much caffeine as two cups of regular coffee. That's a lot of caffeine for the volume of the drink.

I understand that, I can't imagine people having more of these things though.
All of that caffeine in such a small container would be so incredibly bitter I'd probably throw up.

I don't drink this stuff at all-I tried red bull once and hated it (was on a date, the gIrl wanted me to try it). Awful stuff. I won't touch rockstar or monster. This doesn't have any effect on me, but I do have a coworker who loves them. I think his new wife is forcing him to tone them down though. I hope they all leave the market. Most caffeine I drink is 1 (maybe 2) extra large dunkin donut coffee(s).
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I actually like Red Bull, and not just because it goes well with Jager. It's the only one of those energy drink type things I've had that doesn't leave me with an upset stomach.
However, on a day to day basis, now that I'm an old man and all, it's strictly black coffee or tea with a splash of milk. There's just too much sugar in that other crap.
When I was rigging I drank them all the time. In fact, Relentless is the only thing that got me through a 22 hour shift I did one time. If you do, like, 12 hours of unloading trucks and rigging gear, followed by 1 hour of sleep, followed by another 6 hours during which you de-rig everything you just put up, energy drinks start to become really useful. I put it down to the sugar content though, mostly.

This whole thing reminds me of kids dying back in the late 70's and early 80's from heart shaped pills designed to do the same thing as energy drinks. 60 Minutes did a segment about it and interviewed the guy peddling the pills, then went on to talk about regulaters trying to shut the industry down.
Red bull is the only energy drink I'll regularly imbibe, it tastes pretty good... which is more then I can say for monster. Rip Its are also delicious, but impossible to find.

I can attest to it helping with focus and alertness. I wouldnt have been able to land some aircraft if it wasnt for a well timed rockstar. I have a nice tolerance to caffeine now though.
I drink monster during airsoft wars and occasionally when I'm pulling all-nighters playing skyrim (which isn't all that often anymore due to 3 AP classes :( )
Any more than 1 monster and I start to feel a bit strange though. I don't know how anyone could even drink 3.
May the the blessings of His Grace the Emperor tumble down upon you like a golden fog. (Only a VERY select few will get this reference. And it's not from 40k. )
During OIF III they gave away free red bulls, and me being the hoarder that I am I ended up with a box of them under my bed. So when we were pulling up stakes I had forty five odd red bulls under my bed that I didn't want to carry - so me and four of my buddies drank em all. It was .... interesting.
We may have dumped the last three or four. I don't remember.

Needing to not fall asleep in class, I went to work and got a full throttle.
The Cashier(Also my supervisor) says my heard is going to explode from drinking that.
I Reply "Good, that means i wont be coming to work later"
My Cousin drinks enough monsters to own all their merchandise.
Seriously, Enegy drinks are not bad in moderation, i only have one a week is im lucky.
Used to drink a can or two a day of Monster until my heart started acting up so I called it quits. I had a 5 Hour Energy once, the stuff is disgusting, for taste I'd have rather put whiskey in the little bottle and drank that.

got a source? Not that I don't believe you, I've just never heard of this happening.
Hanith wrote:All those little energy drinks (and some of the bigger ones) are just mass overdoses of vitamin B (I think 400% of the recommended daily value). Taking into consideration that your kidneys/liver can only filter out so much of the excess vitamin B; mass overdose will have some health issues.
I have one Rockstar Recovery (orange, non-carbonated) every day about 1030 or so, rest of the day is water.
16 ounce can weighs in at:
20 calories
2g sugar
40mg Vitamin B3 (200% RDA)
20mg Vitamin B5 (200% RDA)
4mg Vitamin B6 (200% RDA)
30mcg Vitamin B12 (500% RDA)
2000mg Tuarine
160mg Caffeine
and some other "energy" stuff including Ginseng, Prickly Pear and Milk Thistle
I can honestly say I've never felt an ill-effect from these, even on the rare days that I'll have 2 if I'm feeling exceptionally sluggish. Just had a physical, and all my levels were fine. I've never found anything that mentions overdoses on vitamin B. I know too much B6 can mask a deficiency of B12, but with 500% I don't really see that being an issue.
Obvious caveat being that I'm not a doctor, so I'd be curious if you had a link as well.
Obviously I'm not saying neither of these two things are impossible. The cans even have a warning of "Not recommended for children, pregnant or nursing women, or those sensitive to caffeine".

Well here's the most recent death I've heard about. Autopsy results are bolded. Having trouble digging up other stories but I know there were a couple issues illness/death/etc while I was growing up around here, the main evil can o' caffination being the Spike shooter energy drink.
The family of a 14-year-old US girl is suing the California makers of Monster Energy, alleging too much caffeine in the popular energy drink led to her death.
Lawyers said the 0.7 litre cans of Monster Energy consumed by Anais Fournier, of Maryland, in the 24 hours prior to her fatal cardiac arrest in December 2011 contained as much caffeine - 480 milligrams - as 14 cans of Coca-Cola.
The ensuing autopsy cited "cardiac arrhythmia due to caffeine toxicity'' as the cause of death.
The family is asking the California Supreme Court for "all damages allowed by law,'' claiming that Monster Energy should be held responsible for wrongful death for allegedly failing to warn about its product's dangers.
By law, soft drinks in the United States can contain no more than 71.5 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounces.
But the limit does not apply to energy drinks like Monster Energy that are considered dietary supplements.

Several warnings are included on the packaging of Spike Shooter. The label advises that people under the age of 18, the elderly, and pregnant women should not use the product. It also warns against combining the product with any prescription or over-the-counter medications, other stimulants or fat loss products, or using the product while being treated for any of a list of medical conditions such as psychiatric diseases, high blood pressure and asthma. Users are advised to start with just half a can to determine tolerance at first, and to never drink more than one can per day.
300mg of caffeine per 8.4 oz "shooter" can. If you really want one I'll buy you however many you want to pay for and mail them to you.
