In my very first game of 40k I played a 1500 point game versus a Tau player. I had one sergeant that was the last one alive in his tac squad and managed to kill a Battle suit in melee. I later gave the marine a gold skull and star to always mark the first cool moment I had in 40k. I won that game btw.

I named my Chimera "Iron A " after it remained intact (weaponless and immobile) for 6 turns of 3 railguns, 2 railrifles, and 2 firewarrior teams a turn all pointed at it's rear.

My mate named every single one of his 120 or so guardsmen.. he has a squad completely comprised of Dave's..

I tend to name my IG after what weapon they are carrying.

My Lord of Change is named Wilfred.

I've named every member of my Space Wolves Great Company. Most of them have characters too (Sven Bearpelt has an actual bearpelt, for instance. Or Jurgen Helfist and his power fist. And Hrothgar Hammerhand etc...)

All the vehicles too. Including twelve Rhinos (This is a long-term project. I've only got 600pts from an army that'll be somewhere in the 7000s!!)

One of my Initiates earned himself a name recently. Brother Snipus. He moved, snapshotted a Krak ML, and blew up a Leman Russ on the side armor. Thatll do pig, thatll do.

I have a GK Razorback named Culpabit Victima in honor(?) of Dakka OT.

I also have a SM Sergeant with two power fists named Manos Fisticus.

I name my HQs but my grunts don't get names. After all, if you aren't prepared to have most of your army get killed in a matter of minutes then you have no business playing guard.

i had a swordsman in my empire mordhiem warband - who only would only attack childern and ladies, every battle he was kidnapped and sold to pit fighters then won his fights and returned to the gang with a new weapon each time - this happened four times.

One of my DW termies got the name mr.Fisty McFisterson after a game where his powerfist seemed to kill everything it touched.

My Nurgle sorcerer lord on bike is called Humanus Fuge, wich means human fly because he has the Chaos spawn fly head as his face/head.

Various commanders, mostly Inquisitors.

My main Inquisitor is Lord Inquisitor Dennifus Zentor (with his personal Navigator Charlus Agrossi). His other companions are Inquisitor Ariana Masters, Primaris Psyker Pax Amoris, Commissar Davos Chandler, Commissar Renald Duke and Commissar Zeke Jackson. In my own fluff all of these guys bar Amoris, Charlus, Masters and Duke are dead.

My guard are led by Lord Major Lucius Sharpe.

My Ultramarines are led by Captain Casca Maine.

My Deathwatch are led by Ultramarines Watch Commander Augustus Griez.

My Chaos are led by Excommunicate Traitorius and Ex-Ultramarines Captain Horatio Lethus, now a Daemon Prince of Khorne (and his sub-commanders S'Thal, Tre'lek the Lesser, Arnok the Bitter, Commander Krawl, Quarth - Chosen of Khorne).

The Inquisition I use are often represented by either Inquisitrix Ariana Masters (Hereticus), Lady Paula Descartes (Xeno) or Inquisitor Percival Yule (Malleus).

Yeah... I like making commanders.

My defiler is called Leonard.

When I still played 40K and Fantasy I liked coming up with names for at least my armies and their commanders;

My Skaven were Clan Skuhl and the Grey Seer's name was... well, Skuhl.

Space Marines were the Golden Calves led by Andreas Del Oro.

Briefly had Slaanesh Chaos Space Marines, The Children of the Blue Dragon, led by a Daemon Prince, but I can't remember his name... Kiyoshi somethingorother.... Screw it, it's now Kiyoshi Yamanaka. He also had some sort of appropriate title for a Slaaneshi Daemon Prince that was all about excessive emotions (generally sorrow and rage. They were pretty emo, but I was also 15 or 16 at the time, so...). Can't for the life of me recall what it was now.

Every model in my Necromunda gang had names, but I don't remember any of them.

I use the name Browning Highpower (or sometimes Hipower) for my Space Marines Captains.

I named every member of my Demon army. In fact the Defilers were made after my kids, the Slaanesh witch the wife, and the converted wolfletters had four dogs in the packs in the same color and names for dogs I had had.

My brother calls his Soul Grinder 'EndOfLevelBoss'... Awesome

I have a khornate daemon prince named "Fizgig the Annihlator"

a ork KFF mek named "Dr. Zork" (delusional madork and insane technician/ painboy he keeps getting away with a shoddy teleporter belt and has yet to be hunted down)

KIA- "dreadsmasha" an ork warboss who had a nasty rap for killing anything on a large base he came into contact with

a deff dread converted from a SM dread known as redzilla

a 2nd deff dread known as muggles more commonly known as the mocking cuddles

a red trukk known as daisy

and a yellow battlewagon known as rose

and lastly a particulary silly nob known as "Uncle Morris"

I let people name the Korvax XII'th for me.

My Chaos Dread (my original lead Chaos Dread from way back in 2nd Ed) picked up the name Triple-Corpse Hammer-Blow. It survives everything, and has uncanny luck when shooting (the amount of Falcons and Wave Serpents its shot down with its TL-Autocannon is amazing!).

I wrote the Tau equivalent for "Weiner" "Cocaine" and "Fangboner" on all 3 of my Devilfish if that counts.

ALL my Black Templars have names, and I record each individual kill they make so I can 'promote them' and see who is actually the most useful.
I am part way through naming ALL my Imperial Guard for the same reason.
It makes me feel like my men are on a campaign and adds a sense of realism, or making it feel like a movie.
I find it also makes me less willing to suicide charge my men or be reckless, and it makes me feel the effects of righteous zeal, even if it only was no-nose nigel who was killed by those Tau. He will be avenged!!!
I find it adds greatly to the enjoyment of the game- even if it does occcasionally ruin the game, when I shout- he was nearly an Initiate you xenos scum.
