Mark 4 all the way. SM the video game did it especially well. The helmet looked so BA that i immediately wanted badly.

I voted for MKIII but really it's a toss up between III and IV. The forgeworld MKIII Is awesome as hell.

While not true space marine armor, I love Mark I - Thunder Armor. Followed up by Mark II.

Good old Mk VII Aquila Armour for me. It was 'the thang' when I got into 40K, so that's just what a SM should look like in my mentality. However, thanks to FW new releases, the Mk III Iron Armour is coming in at a close second.

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

I had to go with the harsh, brutal lines and heavy plates of Mk3 armor. Mk4, 6, 7, and 8 seem to svelt for what are supposed to be implacable shock troopers, and Mk5 is just a cobbled together stopgap mess.

MkII because its cool. MkVI because, well, its proper beaky armour.

MkI is Ugly.
MkIII is just MkII+
MkIV I'm nor a huge fan of. It just doesn't look right to me. A bit to Eldar.
MkV is a cobbled to geather stop gap mess. The models show this well, and I want some for my DA force as I think they would have some, but I don't like it.
MkVII & VIII just seem bland to me now.

For me it's a toss up between the Mk. IV and the Mk. VIII, the way it's done on this guy http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2008/11/29/4101_md-Power%20Weapon,%20Space%20Marines,%20Veteran,%20Warhammer%2040,000.jpg

Beakies. Along with angry slogans painted on the armour, a power fist for every sarge, rhino horns wielded onto helmets or "nose art" painted onto those beaks... No toilet paper strips attached to improper places with red chewing gum, no fancy skulls everywhere, no tons of Bling Bling, trinkets and medals. Just a hard working man's equipment. They don't do proper space marines anymore these days.

Okay, but aside an old fart's old school whining, I appreciate the totally expressionless look of those helmets.
