You could also use the spotter from a sniper drone team, shadowsun would work too or just give a crisis suit tl missile pods and a multitracker. Then you get your quadgun shots aswell as the missile pods.

Because a Tau Army has no proper way without 'praying for 6's' to crash a vendetta.

roughly 300 points for 3 well kitted broadsides that hit on 6 or 200 for a quad gun that hits on 2's.

What odds would you rather take?

Nope, enough seeker missiles solves the problem, seeing as they always hit at an assumed BS 5. Since I run no battlesuits in my army, this is easy for me to pull off, but others will have issues running 12 seeker missiles and 20 markerlights in a 2k list.

Broadsides.

3 Twin-linked railguns average one hit that penetrates on a 3 and explodes on a 4.

Quadguns need a 6 to penetrate and 6 to explode. They need a 5 to even glance and require 3 glances to kill.

PS You're paying too much for Broadsides.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Well I'm not sure this slap dash solution is as good as either a) Including something that adds to your army besides a hearty and reliable way to shoot up. b) something that is ready made for shooting up.

Some vendettas for instance might help. Or as suggested a farseer on the quad gun. A chaos lord is cheap as chips compared to the mighty captain, and even a warp smith is similarly costed and 2+ already! You could even make a death rain tau commander with the ability to fire two weapons and stick him to the quad gun! Let TL-S7 fly!

If you really hate all this you can bring some hydras with your broadsides sounds super safe to me. I don't like things what's only job is to shoot up though.

It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax...

Revisited the math here:

3 Naked Broadsides vs Captain with Quadgun

Broadsides have almost 3 times the chances of killing a Vendetta but slightly more than half as much chance of just doing a hull point.

I'll still take the kills. After all, we're including our Broadsides in a Tau army to deal with terrestrial targets anyway.

Why take allies to shoot a quad-gun when Tau units are already great at this? Take a Commander with TLMP/flamer/BSF/multi-tracker, and shoot both the quad-gun and your TLMP for a total of 6 strength 7 twin-linked shots per turn.

To make it even better, you can JSJ behind your Bastion (MUCH better for Tau armies than an ADL) after firing the quad-gun, so the commander can't even be sniped off effectively!

When you combine that with the Broadside suits inside the bastion, Tau are pretty scary-- in fact, I would consider allying them into other forces for this alone!

I feel the Hydra is so situational. It, for no reason that I can understand, does not have interceptor. Why, or why?!!!

Oh wait, the Vendetta.

Didnt a FAQ come out saying that a multi-tracker only allows a battlesuit to fire two battlesuit weapon systems, not just any two weapons?

If thats the case, an 'el with a MT and TLMP wouldnt be able to shoot all 6 shots, only the quad gun or the TLMP

Other way around. The Codex originally said "battlesuit weapons" and the FAQ changed that to "weapons," explicitly allowing this tactic.

Running eldar allies gives you a BS5 AA gun and some awesome psychic buffs, or a BS6 AA gun and a nice reserve bonus.

I've been using the lascannon because with the high BS it doesn't hurt as much that it's only one shot and not twin linked. It is also a really nice tool for taking out other nasties that come in from reserve.

However, I haven't really gone up against non-MC fliers yet so I can't tell you how effective it is against a vendetta or scythe swarm.

No you haven't its just 3 s10 shots that are re-roll-able offers fantastic anti flyer defense hence why I am building a tau allies for my DW. (that and i wanna own some broadsides.)
